Integration Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques to Evaluate Land Use-Land Cover of Baghdad Region and Nearby Areas

The study area of Baghdad region and nearby areas lies within the central part of the Mesopotamia plain. It covers about 5700 Km2. The remote sensing techniques are used in order to produce possible Land Use – Land Cover (LULC) map for Baghdad region and nearby areas depending on Landsat TM satellite image 2007. The classification procedure which was developed by USGS used and followed with field checking in 2010. Land Use-land cover digital map is created depending on maximum likelihood classifications (ML) of TM image using ERDAS 9.2.The LULC raster image is converted to vector structure, using Arc GIS 9.3 Program in order to create a digital LULC map. This study showed it is possible to produce a digital map of LULC and it can be constantly updated .The image was classified into five main classes, these are: Urban and Built-up land class, vegetated land class, Water class, Barren land class and Agricultural none vegetated land class. The accuracy assessment for classification was 93.70% and Kappa coefficient was 0.8833.

Electronic and optical properties of nickel-doped ceria: A computational modelling study

Cerium oxide (CeO2), or ceria, has gained increasing interest owing to its excellent catalytic applications. Under the framework of density functional theory (DFT), this contribution demonstrates the eect that introducing the element nickel (Ni) into the ceria lattice has on its electronic, structural, and optical characteristics. Electronic density of states (DOSs) analysis shows that Ni integration leads to a shrinkage of Ce 4f states and improvement of Ni 3d states in the bottom of the conduction band. Furthermore, the calculated optical absorption spectra of an Ni-doped CeO2 system shifts towards longer visible light and infrared regions. Results indicate that Ni-doping a CeO2 system would result in a decrease of the band gap. Finally,

Simulated Performance of TFRC, DCCP, SCTP, and UDP Protocols Over Wired Networks

Multimedia applications impose different QoS requirements (e.g., bounded end-to-end delay and jitter) and need an enhanced transport layer protocol that should handle packet loss, minimize errors, manage network congestion, and transmit efficiently. Across an IP network, the transport layer protocol provides data transmission and affects the QoS provided to the application on hand. The most common transport layer protocols used by Internet applications are TCP and UDP. There are also advanced transport layer protocols such as DCCP and TFRC. The authors evaluated the performance of UDP, DCCP, SCTP, and TFRC over wired networks for three traffic flows: data transmission, video streaming, and voice over IP. The evaluation criteria were thro

Recognition of Human Facial Expressions Using DCT-DWT and Artificial Neural Network

Facial expressions are a term that expresses a group of movements of the facial fore muscles that is related to one's own human emotions. Human–computer interaction (HCI) has been considered as one of the most attractive and fastest-growing fields. Adding emotional expression’s recognition to expect the users’ feelings and emotional state can drastically improves HCI. This paper aims to demonstrate the three most important facial expressions (happiness, sadness, and surprise). It contains three stages; first, the preprocessing stage was performed to enhance the facial images. Second, the feature extraction stage depended on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) methods. Third, the recognition stage w
