The effect of volume fraction on the fatigue strength of unsaturated polyester / glass fiber composite
...Show More Authors

In this work polymeric composites were done from unsaturated polyester as a matrix reinforced with glass fiber type (E-glass) with two different volume fraction 20% & 40%. Fatigue tests showed that the number of fatigue cycles to failure limit for samples reinforced with uniform (woven Roving 0-90°) E-glass fiber and random (continuous fibers) with volume fraction 40% more than that for the same samples with volume fraction 20%. Also the fatigue results showed that the uniform samples failed with fatigue cycles more than that of random.

Effect of sodium silicate on the unconfined compressive strength of sand dune
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Sand dunes are spread in multiple places in the world especially in a desert area as a result of economic development and construction processes, there was a need to study the behavior of sand dunes and make it suitable for construction. This paper aims to study the effect of adding sodium silicate on the cohesion strength of sand dune and its behavior. The results show that the cohesion strength increase as a percentage of sodium silicate increase (addition 8% Sodium silicate show the higher cohesion) and the cohesion between sand dune particles increase excepted when using 10% sodium silicate the cohesion began to decrease. However, the effect of curing time is significant and shows</p> ... Show More

Effect of Sustainable Glass Powder on the Properties of Reactive Powder Concrete with Polypropylene Fibers
...Show More Authors

Global warming and environmental damage have become major problems. The production of Portland cement releases large quantities of gas, which cause pollution to the atmosphere. This problem can be solved via the use of sustainable materials, such as glass powder. This study investigates the effect of partial replacement of cement with sustainable glass powder at various percentages (0, 15, 20, and 25%) by weight of cement on some mechanical properties (compressive strength, flexural strength, absorption, and dry density) of Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) containing a percentage of Polypropylene fibers (PRPC) of 1% by weight. Furthermore, steam curing was performed for 5 hours at 90oC after hardening the sample directly. The RPC was

Compressive Strength of Bottle-Shaped Compression Fields of Fiber Reinforced Concrete Members
...Show More Authors

Applying load to a structural member may result in a bottle-shaped compression field especially when the width of the loading is less than the width of bearing concrete members. At the Building and Construction Department – the University of Technology-Iraq, series tests on fibre reinforced concrete specimens were carried out, subjected to compression forces at the top and bottom of the specimens to produce compression field. The effects of steel fibre content, concrete compressive strength, transverse tension reinforcement, the height of test specimen, and the ratio of the width of loading plate to specimen width were studied by testing a total of tenth normal strength concrete blocks with steel fibre and one normal s

Experimental Study of the Effect of Tack Coats on Interlayer Bond Strength of Pavement
...Show More Authors

The performance and lifetime of the flexible asphalt pavement are mainly dependent on the interfacial bond strength between layer courses. To enhance the bond between layers, adhesive materials, such as tack coats, are used. The tack coat itself is a bituminous material, which is applied on an existing relatively non-absorbent surface to ensure a strong bond between the old and newly paved layer. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various types of tack coat materials on interlayer bond strength and to determine the optimal application rate for each type. The tack coat types used in this paper were RC-70, RC-250, and CSS-1h. Both laboratory-prepared and field-constructed hot mix asphalt concrete pavements usin

Effect of Temperature and Frequency on the Dielectric Properties of PVC/MnCl2 Composite
...Show More Authors

The dielectric properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-MnCl2 composite were studied by using the impedance technique. The measurements were carried out as a function of frequency in the range from 10 Hz to 13 MHz and temperature range from 27oC to 55oC. Using a composite of 20 wt. % MnCl2 by weight, it was found that the dielectric constants and the dielectric loss of the prepared films increase with the increasing temperature at law frequency and the enhancement of the ionic conduction which is confirmed by the increase the of AC. conductivity and the decrease of the activation energy of the conduction mechanism at high applied frequency. The observed relaxation and polarization effects of composite a

THE EFFECT OF SPACE VOLUME ON FREE CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER FOR ONGITUDINAL FINNED CYLINDER WITH DIFFERENT SLOPE NGLES
...Show More Authors

This study deals with free convection heat transfer for the outer surface of two
cylinders of the shape of (Triangular & Rectangular fined cylinders with 8-fins),
putted into two different spaces; small one with dimension of (Length=1.2m,
height=1m, width=0.9m) and large one with dimension of (Length=3.6m, height =3m,
width=2.7m). The experimental work was conducted with air as a heat transport
medium. These cylinders were fixed at different slope angles (0o, 30o, 60o and 90o)
.The heat fluxes were (279, 1012, 1958, 3005, 4419) W/m2, where heat transferred by
convection and radiation. In large space, the results show that the heat transfer from
the triangular finned cylinder is maximum at a slope angle equals

The Effect of Wind Velocity on the Suppression of Composite Wing Airfoil NACA 0012
...Show More Authors

The first studies on shocks and vibrations were carried out at the beginning of the 1930s to improve the behavior of buildings during earthquakes. Vibration tests on aircraft were developed from 1940 to verify the resistance of parts and equipments prior to their first use. Flutter is a well-known example of dynamic aero elasticity, where when oscillation of structure interacted with unsteady aerodynamic forces the flutter will occur. Vibration on any structure without damping means that self-harmonic oscillation will occur, and in most cases the oscillation may start to increase until structural failure. This behavior is very similar to resonance phenomena if only the oscillation is being studied as a vibration case. In vibration suppre
