Remediation of Oil Production by Matrix Acidizing Method on an Oil Well

The remediation oil production by matrix acidizing method on the well named "X" (for confidential reasons) is scrutinized in this paper. Initial production of 1150 bpd, production index of 2.8 STB/Psi/d and permeability of 150md, in 2018 two years down the lane this dropped to 450 bpd, production index 0.7 STB/Psi/d. The declined observed on the production index is trouble shouted and after elimination of (no completion damage/perforation damage), the skin is calculated by carrying out a well test (build-up test) whose extrapolation in excel over times gave us a skin of 40.The reservoir heterogeneity, containing >20% of feldspar, carbonates and paraffin’s guided thematrix acidizing design and treatment proposition to remedy this problem. A positive displacement pump (HT400), boosted by a centrifugal pump were used to pump the acid treatment through high pressure treating line downhole. Halliburton insite for stimulation the (IFS) software monitored treating pressure and surface flow rate, keeping injection rate below fracturing pressure. PipeSim software is used to run the nodal analysis before and after treatment this helped to forecast optimal production rates and pressure after treatments. Matrix acidizing method applied on the well X increased the production to 850 bpd with production index of 2 STD/psi/d, skin - 1.5. The economic benefit to the company stood at (profit oil 21,699,500 USD.) over a two years period of production. Meanwhile uncertainties in demand and supply of crude oil at the international market cause constant fluctuation in oil prices, this should be strongly considered upon execution of this project. Overall applications of this acidizing treatment can be carried out on reservoirs with similar mineralogy. HCl/HF blend dissolves sandstone, mud stone and calcite minerals thus reservoir porosity and permeability can be enhanced in regions extending several meters around the injection well.

Well Log Analysis of Nahr Umr, Shuaiba and Zubair Formations in EB-4 well of East Baghdad Oil Field, Iraq, using Rock Physics Templates (RPTs)

RPT is a method used for classifying various lithologies and fluids from data of well logging or seismic inversion. Three Formations (Nahr Umr, Shuaiba, and Zubair Formations) were selected in the East Baghdad Oil field within well EB-4 to test the possibility of using this method. First, the interpretations of the well log and Density – Neutron cross plot were used for lithology identification, which showed that Nahr Umr and Zubair formations consist mainly of sandstone and shale, while the Shuaiba Formation consists of carbonate (dolomite and limestone). The study was also able to distinguish between the locations of hydrocarbon reservoirs using RPT. Finally, a polynomial equation was generated from the cross plot domain (AI versus V

Evaluation of Petrophysical Characteristics of Mishrif and Yamama Reservoirs, in Garraf Oil Field, Southern Iraq, Based on Well-Logging Interpretation

The Mishrif and Yamama Formation are the main reservoirs in the Garraf oilfield, Nasiriyah city, of the Euphrates Subzone, Mesopotamian Basin, Southern Iraq. The Garraf oilfield structural pattern corresponds with the similar anticline forming the oilfields of Rafidain and Dujaila and is parallel to the main trend of Zagros, indicating simple coaxial deformation.

The petrophysical properties are evaluated using the Interactive Petrophysics V3.5 software. This comprises determining the lithology, mineralogy, and matrix for the investigated reservoirs, as estimating clay volume, total, effective, and secondary porosity, water saturation, permeability, and determining the net pay and gross thickness.

The findings of t

Calculating Production Rate of each Branch of a Multilateral Well Using Multi-Segment Well Model: Field Example

Multilateral wells require a sophisticated type of well model to be applied in reservoir simulators to represent them. The model must be able to determine the flow rate of each fluid and the pressure throughout the well. The production rate calculations are very important because they give an indication about some main issues associated with multi-lateral wells such as one branch may produce water or gas before others, no production rate from one branch, and selecting the best location of a new branch for development process easily.                                &nbsp

Sodium Dodecyle Sulphate Injection as a Secondary Oil Recovery Method

Sodium Dodecyle Sulphate (CH3(CH2)11SO4-Na+) solution was used as a secondary oil recovery by using a lab Model shown in figure-1. The effect of (solution concentration, temperature and salinity) on interfacial tension figure-2 and figure-3 and figure-4 respectively. The best values of these three variables, were taken (those values that give the lowest interfacial tension). Porosity, saturation, permeability were determined in the lab depending on Darcy law. Primary oil recovery was displaced by water until no more oil is obtained then sodium dodecyle sulphate solution was injected. The total oil recovery was 94.8% or 85.7% of the residual oil (secondary oil recovery) figure-5. This method was applied on Iraqi oil field and it gave resu

Hydrocarbon Reservoir Characterization Using Well Logs of Nahr Umr Formation in Kifl Oil field, Central Iraq

This study aims to determine the petrophysical characteristics of the three wells in the Kifl Oilfield, central Iraq. The well logs were used to characterize hydrocarbon reservoirs to assess the hydrocarbon prospectivity, designate hydrocarbon and water-bearing zones, and determine the Nahr Umr Formation's petrophysical parameters. The Nahr Umr reservoir mainly consists of sandstone at the bottom and has an upper shale zone containing a small proportion of oil. The geophysical logs data from three oil wells include gamma-ray, resistivity, neutron, density, acoustic, and spontaneous potential logs. A gamma-ray log was employed for lithology differentiation, and a resistivity log was used to determine the response of distinct zones

Reservoir Model and Production Strategy of Mishrif Reservoir-Nasryia Oil Field Southern Iraq

Nasryia oil field is located about 38 Km to the north-west of Nasryia city. The field was discovered in 1975 after doing seismic by Iraqi national oil company. Mishrif formation is a carbonate rock (Limestone and Dolomite) and its thickness reach to 170m. The main reservoir is the lower Mishrif (MB) layer which has medium permeability (3.5-100) md and good porosity (10-25) %. Form well logging interpretation, it has been confirmed the rock type of Mishrif formation as carbonate rock. A ten meter shale layer is separating the MA from MB layer. Environmental corrections had been applied on well logs to use the corrected one in the analysis. The combination of Neutron-Density porosity has been chosen for interpretation as it is c

Environmental Impact from Drilling and Production of oil Activities: Sources and Recommended Solutions

In petroleum industry, there are two major operations that can potentially impact the environment: Drilling and production. Both activities generate a significant volume of wastes include drill cuttings contaminated with hydrocarbons, wide variety of chemical additives, produced water and air pollutants. The potential impact depends primarily on the material, its concentration after release, and the biotic community that is exposed.
In this study, many drilling locations and production facilities have been investigated and examined for their adverse effects on the environment. Contamination with hydrocarbons, heavy metals, salts, other associated wastes and air pollution were detected at many sits.
Understanding of drilling and pro
