Laminar Free Convection in Three Dimensional Inclined Porous Annulus with Fins on the Inner Cylinder
...Show More Authors

An experimental and numerical study was carried out to investigate the heat transfer by natural convection in a three dimensional annulus enclosure filled with porous media (silica sand) between two inclined concentric cylinders with (and without) annular fins attached to the inner cylinder under steady state condition. The experiments were carried out for a range of modified Rayleigh number (0.2 ≤Ra*≤ 11) and extended to Ra*=500 for numerical study and for annulus inclination angle of (δ = 0˚, 30˚, 60˚ and 90˚). The numerical study was to give the governing equation under assumptions that used Darcy law and Boussinesq’s approximation and then it was solved numerically using finite difference approximation. It was found that the average Nusselt number depends on (Ra*, Hf, δ and Rr ). The results showed that the increasing of the fin length increases the heat transfer rate for any fin pitch unless the area of the inner cylinder exceeds that of the outer one; then the heat will be stored in the porous media. A comparison was made between the results of the present work and those of other researches for the case without fins and excellent agreement was obtained.

Estimation of parameters of two-dimensional sinusoidal signal model by employing Deferential Evaluation algorithm and the use of Sequential approach in estimation
...Show More Authors

Estimation the unknown parameters of a two-dimensional sinusoidal signal model is an important and a difficult problem , The importance of this model  in modeling Symmetric gray- scale texture image . In this paper, we propose employment Deferential Evaluation algorithm and the use of Sequential approach to estimate the unknown frequencies and amplitudes of the 2-D sinusoidal components when the signal is affected by noise. Numerical simulation are performed for different sample size, and various level of standard deviation to observe the performance of this method in estimate the parameters of 2-D sinusoidal signal model , This model was used for modeling  the Symmetric gray scale texture image and estimating by using

Prevalence of bacterial types in Wagner grade three of diabetic foot ulcer
...Show More Authors

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the chronic wound infection and leads to non-traumatic lower limb amputation. Advances in diabetes research are significant and much needed because diabetes is on the rise worldwide and is considered by some experts already to be at an epidemic level. Among diabetic patients 70% were males and 30% were females. Aerobic bacteria 104(82%) were the most frequently isolated than anaerobic bacteria 23(18%). Among aerobes Gram negative bacteria 67(64.4%) were more commonly isolated than Gram positive 37(35.5%). The three most frequently found that S. aureus 28(22%) followed by P. mirabilis 22(17.3%) then E. coli 14(11%). Among anaerobic bacteria Gram negative bacteria 16(69.5%) were predominantly isolated th

Some Genetic Parameters and Path Coefficient of Three-Way Crosses in Maize
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Correlation and path coefficient analysis were worked out for ten morphological traits in 30 three-way crosses of maize. Phenotypic and genotypic correlation analysis indicated that ear length; row numbers per ear, grain numbers per row, leaf area and leaves numbers had a positive significant correlation with grain yield per plant. Further partitioning of correlation coefficients into direct and indirect effects showed that traits days to silking, row numbers per row and leaves numbers had a positive direct effect on grain yield per plant. The traits ear length, grain numbers per row and leaf area had a maximum total effect on grain yield. Furthermore, PCA analysis has gave interested</p> ... Show More

Evaluating of the Synergistic Effect of three Essential Oils on the Virulence Factors (resistance gene) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia fonticola Isolated from Wounds
...Show More Authors

Depending on the high resistance to antibiotics, five isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 7 isolates of Serratia  fonticola were selected out of 150 bacterial isolates from burn wards in Baghdad hospitals, which were later identified by VITEK2. A susceptibility test was done by using 15 antibiotics. The results showed that all the selected isolates were resistant to antibiotics: AMP, CTX, CAZ, GEN, PIP, TIC and TMP especially, while they were sensitive to IPE. The essential oils of Aloysia citrodora (Family: Verbenaceae), Rosmarinus officinalis (Family: Lamiaceae) and

Study of in vitro and in vivo free radical scavenging activity for radioprotection of cerium oxide nanoparticles
...Show More Authors

Nanoceria have shown numerous unique characteristics, such as biocompatibility and are excellent agents for biological applications. The aim of this study is to investigate cerium oxide nanoparticles for 2, 2- diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity and their ability to offer protection against ionizing radiation. In vitro antioxidant activity study of nanoceria particles has shown good free radical scavenging activity for DPPH radical assayed within a concentration range of 0.01 to 0.05 g/l, at higher concentrations of nanoparticles showed reverse trend in absorbance and inhibition indicating this finite rang of concentration is suitable for scavenging free radicals, also nanoparticles were found to ha

Numerical modeling of two-dimensional simulation of groundwater protection from lead using different sorbents in permeable barriers
...Show More Authors

This study is to investigate the possibility of using activated carbon prepared from Iraqi date-pits (ADP) which are produced from palm trees (Phoenix dactylifera L.) as low-cost reactive material in the permeable reactive barrier (PRB) for treating lead (Pb+2) from the contaminated groundwater, and then compare the results experimentally with other common reactive materials such as commercial activated carbon (CAC), zeolite pellets (ZP). Factors influencing sorption such as contact time, initial pH of the solution, sorbent dosage, agitation speed, and initial lead concentration has been studied. Two isotherm models were used for the description of sorption data (Langmuir and Freundlich). The maximum lead sorp

Math Word Problems in Mathematics Books for the First Three Grads of the Basic Stage in Palestine (An analytical and Evaluative Study)
...Show More Authors

This study aimed at revealing the degree of availability of standards of word problems in mathematics books for the first three grades of the basic stage in Palestine. For this purpose, the researcher prepared an analysis tool and a list of criteria consisting of two areas: linguistic formulation and mathematical content. Every area had seven items. The results of the study showed that the third-grade mathematics book has the highest degree of availability of the standards with 85.75%, and then came the second-grade mathematics book with 83.12%. Finally, the first-grade mathematics book came with 80.13%. In the light of the previous results, the researcher recommended to develop the language of word problems, to take into account their i

Free will between Slavery and Freedom: A Study of Linda Brent in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs
...Show More Authors

Harriet Jacobs was a writer and a reformer. As a female writer in the nineteenth century, Jacobs wrote her narrative as a means of resisting the system of slavery. She wrote her book Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl: Written by Herself, (1842) to reflect upon the exploitation of the black people and the need to change the hierarchal attitude that governs white/black relations. She was engaged in many abolitionist events and her anti-slavery approach appeared clearly in her writings. She shares Du Bios ideas about freedom and emancipation and the need for a political and cultural change. Thus, Du Bois’s theory provides a framework for her autobiographical novel where she portrays Linda Brent, the main character, a strong wille
