The present work is to investigate semiotically the similarities and differences in the textual memes generated by human and AI-ChatGPT-5 and to answer the research question “what are the points of similarity and difference between human and AI-ChatGPT-generated textual memes following Barthes’ framework”. Such a study contributes to the growing field of digital semiotics by examining the process of meaning-making constructed by humans and AI-ChatGPT-5 using one visual stimulus. To meet this objective, a unified image macro “Le Défenseur” by Honoré Daumier has been submitted to a sample of (15) first-year students from the Department of English, College of Education for Women, University of Baghdad, purposively selected based on their similar educational and linguistic backgrounds and on their familiarity with internet meme culture. A comparative purposive analysis has been conducted using Roland Barthes’ triadic framework (1972) of Denotation, Connotation, and Myth. The findings revealed that both the human and AI-ChatGPT-5 have denotatively anchored their memes on mainly two visible inputs and have mythically managed to reflect cultural and social beliefs. However, humans have demonstrated a proficiency in attaching diverse connotations to the figures identified in comparison to AI-ChatGPT-5, which focused on only triggering different social roles. The study has finally concluded that both parties have managed to denote multiple visual references and myths. However, the human captions surpassed AI-ChatGPT-5, showing richer social references, cultural depth, and personal orientations. The study calls for more research on the role of AI-discourse in reproducing culturally grounded meanings in digital communications
The present paper adopts a qualitative methodology to address the various frames and scenes activated while textually memeing an image macro, specifically, Woltze’s problem picture, The Letter. To achieve this objective, the researcher is to employ Fillmore’s (1976, 1982) Frame Semantics. The data consists of a single image selected following the jurors’ feedback and submitted to purposively selected female students from the Department of English-College of Education for Women-University of Baghdad, using a Google form. The study has concluded that having activated a similar frame does not necessitate sharing a similar number of elements and/or referents. There is no one-to-one correspondence between the activated frame and th

The study delves into the intricate process of decoding the diverse signs, symbols, and visual components integrated into these anti-smoking campaigns. The core aim of this investigation is to comprehend and explore the semiotic tactics that underlie these advertisements, with a particular emphasis on visual communication as a pivotal tool in shaping the public's attitudes and behaviors towards tobacco usage. The research introduces a significant theoretical framework, the "Taxonomy of Image-Text Relations and Functions" theory, as proposed by Emily E. Marsh and Marilyn Dom
... Show MoreThe increasing complexity of how humans interact with and process information has demonstrated significant advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP), transitioning from task-specific architectures to generalized frameworks applicable across multiple tasks. Despite their success, challenges persist in specialized domains such as translation, where instruction tuning may prioritize fluency over accuracy. Against this backdrop, the present study conducts a comparative evaluation of ChatGPT-Plus and DeepSeek (R1) on a high-fidelity bilingual retrieval-and-translation task. A single standardize prompt directs each model to access the Arabic-language news section of the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, retrieve the three most r

Show MoreThis study aims to conduct an exhaustive comparison between the performance of human translators and artificial intelligence-powered machine translation systems, specifically examining the top three systems: Spider-AI, Metacate, and DeepL. A variety of texts from distinct categories were evaluated to gain a profound understanding of the qualitative differences, as well as the strengths and weaknesses, between human and machine translations. The results demonstrated that human translation significantly outperforms machine translation, with larger gaps in literary texts and texts characterized by high linguistic complexity. However, the performance of machine translation systems, particularly DeepL, has improved and in some contexts

Show MoreObjectives: The research aims to highlight the semiotic approach and apply it to a photograph of the Pope's reception at Baghdad International Airport, published on the page of the Media Office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi in the Twitter application, in order to study its components, analyze its contents and clarify its implications, as well as approach the image as a political and media act. Methods: The stages of research were accomplished by "investigation, observation, and analysis", and the dismantling of the composition of the photograph, thus revealing the hidden and hidden aspects, relying on the semiotic approach to analysis. Results: The study showed that the ideas and meanings included in the image in form

The shortest path problem is a path of minimum weight connecting two specified vertices a and b, and from it we have a pre-topology. Furthermore, we study the restriction and separators in pre-topology generated by the shortest path problems. Finally, we study the rate of liaison in pre-topology between two subgraphs. It is formally shown that the new distance measure is a metric
In this paper, the deterministic and the stochastic models are proposed to study the interaction of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) with host cells inside the human body. In the deterministic model, the value of the basic reproduction number determines the persistence or extinction of the COVID-19. If , one infected cell will transmit the virus to less than one cell, as a result, the person carrying the Coronavirus will get rid of the disease .If the infected cell will be able to infect all cells that contain ACE receptors. The stochastic model proves that if are sufficiently large then maybe give us ultimate disease extinction although , and this facts also proved by computer simulation.
As we live in the era of the fourth technological revolution, it has become necessary to use artificial intelligence to generate electric power through sustainable solar energy, especially in Iraq and what it has gone through in terms of crises and what it suffers from a severe shortage of electric power because of the wars and calamities it went through. During that period of time, its impact is still evident in all aspects of daily life experienced by Iraqis because of the remnants of wars, siege, terrorism, wrong policies ruling before and later, regional interventions and their consequences, such as the destruction of electric power stations and the population increase, which must be followed by an increase in electric power stations,

In spite of the significance of cartoons in the formation of the children’s language and culture as they are the steady audience of cartoons, the researchers noticed that there is a research gap in the studies concerning the language of cartoons. The current study which is qualitative and descriptive in nature aims at identifying the positivity and negativity of the verbal and visual-verbal signs, and deciphering the non-verbal signs in two of the selected episodes of “Tom and Jerry”. The researchers adopted Peirce’s theory in analysis categorizing signs into icons, index
