Synthesis, spectroscopic, thermal, biological activities studies for Ni(II),Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes with phthalohydrazide derived ligand and evaluation as antioxidants
...Show More Authors

The present article discusses the synthesis of tetradentate Schiff base complexes formed by the condensation reaction of 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde and phthalohydrazide. The ligand (LH2) was detected using FT-IR spectra, 1H, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, elemental microanalysis CHN, and mass spectrometry. The obtained solid complexes have been assessed using physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques, including UV-Vis, FT-IR, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR), mass spectrometry, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and atomic absorption, in addition to complex conductivity and magnetic moment measurements. The infrared results demonstrated that ligands functioning as tetradentate ligands are chelated to metal ions via the phenolic oxygen and nitrogen of the azomethine group. Specific metal ions join with chloride ions (Cu+2, Zn+2) to reach their coordination numbers. The generated compounds' antibacterial effect in vitro was measured towards Candida albicans as a fungal species, Gram-positive Bacilla and pseudomonas, and Gram-negative Staph and E. coli using the agar well diffusion technique. The ligand generated an octahedral geometry around the (Cu+2 and Zn+2) and a tetrahedral form around the Ni+2 metal ion, per the measurement and spectroscopic tests. Ascorbic acid is used as a standard in the phosphomolybdate technique to assess the antioxidant activity of the ligand and complexes. In vitro bond strengths post thermal and fatigue load cycling of sapphire brackets bonded with self-etch primer and evaluation of enamel damage
...Show More Authors

Background: This in vitro study compares a self-etch primer (SEP) to an etch-and-rinse (EaR) for bonding sapphire brackets by evaluation of the enamel etch-pattern, shear bond strength, amount of remnant adhesive and enamel surface damage following thermal and fatigue cyclic loading. Material and Methods: Ceramic (sapphire) brackets were bonded to 80 extracted human premolars using two enamel etching protocols: conventional EaR using 37% phosphoric acid (PA) gel (control), and a SEP (Transbond Plus). Each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n=20 teeth) according to the time of bracket debonding: after 24 h water storage or following 5000 thermo-cycles plus 5000 cycles fatigue loading, to determine the shear bond strength (SBS), adhesiv

The work involves synthesis of new Schiff bases ([V] a, b and [VI] a, b), pyrazoles [VII] a, b and pyrazolines [VIII] a, b derivatives containing isoxazoline unit starting with chalcones. 4-bromoacetophenone was reacted with 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde or 4-hydroxyacetophenone was reacted with 4-bromobenzaldehyde in basic medium to give chalcone by Claisen-Schemidt reaction. The chalcons [I] a, b was reacted with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to form isoxazolines [II] a, b. which were reacted with ethyl chloro acetate in basic medium to get ester compounds [III] a, b. The condensation new ester [III] a, b with hydrazine hydrate80% yieldedacid hydrazide [IV] a, b. The later compound refluxing with 4-substituted benzaldehyde in dry benzene to give Sc

Synthesis and Preliminary Evaluation of a Polyolefin-based Core for Carrier-based Root Canal Obturation
...Show More Authors

Introduction: Carrier-based gutta-percha is an effective method of root canal obturation creating a 3-dimensional filling; however, retrieval of the plastic carrier is relatively difficult, particularly with smaller sizes. The purpose of this study was to develop composite carriers consisting of polyethylene (PE), hydroxyapatite (HA), and strontium oxide (SrO) for carrier-based root canal obturation. Methods: Composite fibers of HA, PE, and SrO were fabricated in the shape of a carrier for delivering gutta-percha (GP) using a melt-extrusion process. The fibers were characterized using infrared spectroscopy and the thermal properties determined using differential scanning calorimetry. The elastic modulus and tensile strength tests were dete

Synthesis of New Ibuprofen Derivatives Containing (Oxothiazolidin-3-yl) Amino Moiety with Expected Biological Activity
...Show More Authors

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are drugs that help reduce inflammation, which often helps to relieve pain. In this research new ibuprofen oxothiazolidnone derivatives were synthesized from the reaction of Schiff base derivatives of Ibuprofen with mercapto acetic acid VI a-c, to improve the potency and to decrease the drug's potential side effects, a new series of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives of ibuprofen was synthesized VI a-c . The characterizations of the compounds were identified by using FTIR, 1HNMR technique and by measuring the physical properties.

Case studies on urban agriculture as a planning strategy for achieving sustainability in cities
...Show More Authors

Urban agriculture is one of the important urban uses of land in cities since the inception of cities and civilizations, but the great expansion of cities in the world during the twentieth century and the beginning of the twentieth century and the increase in the number of urban residents compared to the rural population has led to a decline in this use in favor of other uses.

This decline in agricultural and green land areas in cities has negatively affected the environment, natural life and biological diversity in cities in addition to the great impact on the climate and the increase in temperatures and the negative impact on the economic side, since urban agriculture is an important pillar of the economy, especially

A Prototype and Roadmap for Transition to IPv6 with Performance Evaluation
...Show More Authors

The migration from IPv4 to IPv6 can not be achieved in a brief period, thus both protocols co-exist at certain years. IETF Next Generation Transition Working Group (NGtrans) developed IPv4/IPv6 transition mechanisms. Since Iraq infrastructure, including universities, companies and institutions still use IPv4 protocol only. This research article tries to highlight, discuss a required transition roadmap and extend the local knowledge and practice on IPv6. Also, it introduces a prototype model using Packet tracer (network simulator) deployed for the design and implementation of IPv6 migration. Finally, it compares and evaluates the performance of IPv6, IPv4 and dual stack using OPNET based on QoS metrics such as throughput, delay and point to

Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Evaluation of New Ceftriaxone Derivatives
...Show More Authors

The present study was designed to synthesize a number of new Ceftriaxone derivatives by its involvement with a series of different amines, through the chemical derivatization of its 2-aminothiazolyl- group into an amide with chloroacetyl chloride, which on further conjugation with these selected amines will produce compounds with pharmacological effects that may extend the antimicrobial activity of the parent compound depending on the nature of these moieties.

Ceftriaxone was first equipped with a spacer arm (linker) by the action of chloroacetyl chloride in aqueous medium and then further reacted with seven different aliphatic and aromatic amines which resulted in the production of the aimed final target products. The syntheses
