...Show More Authors

The target of this study was to study the natural phytochemical components of the head (capsule) of Cynara scolymus cultivated in Iraq. The head (capsule) of plant was extracted by maceration in70% ethanol for 72 hours, and fractioned by hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate. Preliminary qualitative phytochemical screening was performed on the ethyl acetate fraction for capsule was revealed the presence of flavonoid and aromatic acids. These were examined by (high -performance liquid chromatography) (HPLC diodarray), (high- performance thin-layer chromatography)(HPTLC).

Flavonoids were isolated by preparative layer chromatography and aromatic acid was isolated by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography HPLC from the ethyl acetate fraction of capsule.

Then identified by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography HPTLC, High performance liquid chromatography HPLC diode array , ultraviolet diode array UV-diode array and Liquid Chromatography /Mass Spectroscopy LC/MS. The chloroform fraction from the capsule was evaluated by Gas Chromatography//Mass Spectrometer(GC/MS). The different chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques revealed the presence of luteolin, apigenin and cinnamic acid in capsule of Cynara scolymus, also 9-octadecanoic acid (oleic acid), Oxalic acid, allyl tetradecyl ester, limonene, in chloroform of Cynara scolymus.

The results of the current study proved the presence of luleolinapigenin  and cinnamic acid in the ethyl acetate fraction of Cynara scolymus capsule.

Evaluation of Amygdalin (B17) and Cucurbita pepo (Pumpkin seed) Activity Against Blastocystis from Diarrheic Patients in Baghdad, Iraq: in Vitro Study
...Show More Authors

Blastocystis is a ubiquitous human and animal protozoa that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract. Metronidazole is considered the standard drug for the treatment of Blastocystis infection; however, there is growing evidence of treatment failure, hazardous side effects, and appearance of strains resistant to metronidazole. In the last era, many studies have been implicated in the quest for new treatments for Blastocystis infection, especially natural products. Attention has been focused on the effect of Amygdalin (B17) and pumpkin seed on eradicating parasitic infections. The current work was built up to explore the in vitro efficacy of two natural compounds, Amygdalin (B17) and pumpkin seeds against

CALCAREOUS NANNOFOSSILS AND CHEMOSTRATIGRAPHY OF THE EARLY APTIAN OCEANIC ANOXIC EVENT 1A FROM NORTHERN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

Calcareous nannofossils were documented from the upper part of the Cretaceous Balambo Formation in northern Iraq with the aim of determining an evidence for the Oceanic Anoxic Event. A detailed investigation of the calcareous nannofossils led to the identification of twenty-four species. Regarding these data, Discolithus litterarius (Górka, 1957) was identified at the studied interval with the age of Early Aptian.

Early Aptian assemblages are dominated by nannoconids that drop sharply within the D. litterarius nannofossil zone, which may be related to the nannoconid crisis recorded in the Early Aptian in the other parts of the world. This event is coincided by a decrease in CaCO3<

Seventeen samples of Hartha Formation in Balad (1) well, central Iraq, are studied on the basis of stratigraphic ranges of the recorded calcareous nannofossils for twenty species belonging to twelve genera. The studied section reveals three biozones arranged from oldest to youngest as follows; (1) Calculites ovalis Interval Biozone (CC19), (2) Ceratolithoides aculeus Interval  Biozone (CC20), (3) Quadrum  sissinghii Interval Biozone (CC21). These Biozones are correlated with other calcareous nannofossils biozones from both local and regional sections, leading to conclude the age of the Middle Campanian.

Rerecorded eighteen ostracode species that belong to eleven genera are identified,
