This paper presents L1-adaptive controller for controlling uncertain parameters and time-varying unknown parameters to control the position of a DC servomotor. For the purpose of comparison, the effectiveness of L1-adaptive controller for position control of studied servomotor has been examined and compared with another adaptive controller; Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC). Robustness of both L1-adaptive controller and model reference adaptive controller to different input reference signals and different structures of uncertainty were studied. Three different types of input signals are taken into account; ramp, step and sinusoidal. The L1-adaptive controller ensured uniformly bounded transient and asymptotic tracking for both system's input and output signals, simultaneously with asymptotic tracking. Simulations of a DC servomotor with time-varying friction and disturbance are presented to verify the theoretical findings.
In developing countries, individual students and researchers are not able to afford the high price of the subscription to the international publishers, like JSTOR, ELSEVIER,…; therefore the governments and/or universities of those countries aim to purchase one global subscription to the international publishers to provide their educational resources at a cheaper price, or even freely, to all students and researchers of those institutions. For realizing this concept, we must build a system that sits between the publishers and the users (students or researchers) and act as a gatekeeper and a director of information: this system must register its users and must have an adequate security to e

The magnetic levitation system model is considered uncertain, which subjected to the uncertainty in system parameters, also it is open-loop unstable and strongly nonlinear. The proposed variable structure control to magnetic levitation system is proved, and the area of attraction is determined. Additionally, the chattering, which induced due to the discontinuity in control law, is attenuated by using a non-smooth approximate. With this approximation the resulted controller is a continuous variable structure controller with a determined steady state error according to the selected control

In this paper, the performance of the backstepping sliding mode controller schemes for the angular velocity control for a rotary actuator of an angular velocity control system that utilizes a novel hydraulic flow control method called inlet throttling was investigated. For the angular velocity dynamic, a linear state feedback with suitable high gain is designed as the virtual controller, where steady state error can be made arbitrarily small according to the gain value. A time varying sliding variable is then selected based on the designed virtual controller. The resulting control design is robust, and the maximum error of the angular veloci

The model couples moving heat sources, rate- and temperature-dependent plasticity, and adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) triggered by temperature gradient, plastic strain rate, and contact pressure. It is integrated with a design of experiments/response surface methodology using cutting speed (VC), feed per tooth (fZ), radial depth of cut/width of cut (ae), axial depth of cut (ap), and coolant mode. Responses include peak interface temperature per tooth (Tpeak), predicted surface residual stress (?_xx^"surf" ), and depth of compressive residual stress layer (dcomp). Show MorePower-electronic converters are essential elements for the effective interconnection of renewable energy sources to the power grid, as well as to include energy storage units, vehicle charging stations, microgrids, etc. Converter models that provide an accurate representation of their wideband operation and interconnection with other active and passive grid components and systems are necessary for reliable steady state and transient analyses during normal or abnormal grid operating conditions. This paper introduces two Laplace domain-based approaches to model buck and boost DC-DC converters for electromagnetic transient studies. The first approach is an analytical one, where the converter is represented by a two-port admittance model via mo
