Molecular detection of Streptococcus Sp. isolated from the mouth and nose of humans and pets
...Show More Authors

Several streptococcal species traverse the human-animal-environment interface, positioning them as particularly compelling subjects for One Health research. In contrast to strictly host-adapted pathogens, these species are observed to circulate among livestock, companion animals, aquaculture, and the broader environment, exhibiting demonstrable transmission to human populations. In this study, 200 swabs were collected from humans and animals (100 nasal and oral swabs were tested bacteriologically from individuals with respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illnesses of all genders and ages. 100 swabs were collected from pets (dogs and cats) of both genders and various ages. Various respiratory symptoms were tested to isolate and characterize the bacterial causes of respiratory infections and to identify bacteria that can infect both humans and their pets. Finally, the results were confirmed by primary culture media, the Vitk 2 system, and 16 S rRNA. The results of bacterial isolation from the human nose showed the presence of six streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. thoraltensis (3, 50%), followed by S. anginosus (2, 33.33%), and finally S. alactolyticus (1, 16.66%). Moreover, the results from the human mouth showed the existence of 15 streptococcal isolates, divided into four types: S. salivarius (5, 33.33%), followed by S. thoraltensis (4, 26.66%), then S. alactolyticus and S. parasanguinis (3, 20%). At the same time, the results from the dog nose showed the presence of four streptococcal isolates, classified into three types: S. anginosus (2, 50%), followed by S. thoraltensis and S. alactolyticus (1, 25%). The results from the dog oral samples showed the presence of 16 streptococcal isolates, divided into four types: S. salivarius (6, 37.5%), S. alactolyticus (4, 25%), and S. thoraltensis and S. parasanguinis (3, 18.75%). Moreover, the cat nose results showed the presence of three streptococcal isolates, all classified as S. anginosus (100%). The results from the cat oral swab showed the presence of 8 streptococcal isolates, divided into four types: S. thoraltensis (3; 37.5%), S. parasanguinis and S. alactolyticus (2; 25%), and S. salivarius (1; 12.5%). Additionally, the identification of 6 Streptococcus sp. strains was confirmed using the 16 S rRNA gene.

Evaluation of Streptocin SH3, a Bacteriocin produced by Streptococcus sanguinis isolated from Human Dental Plaque
...Show More Authors

Background: Bacteriocin is a peptidic toxin has many advantages to bacteria in their ecological niche and has strong antibacterial activity. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluation of bacteriocin using Streptococcus sanguinis isolated from human dental caries.

Subjects and Methods: Thirty five streptococcus isolates were diagnosed and tested for their production of bacteriocin, and then the optimal conditions for production of bacteriocin were determined.  After that, the purification of bacteriocin was made partially by ammonium sulfate at 95% saturation levels, followed by and gel filtration chromatography

Prevalence of Toxocara spp. in Cats and Detection of Intestinal Helminth Infections in Humans
...Show More Authors

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of intestinal helminth infections in humans and detect Toxocara spp. in cats, with a focus on assessing the impact of age and gender on infection rates. Traditional diagnostic methods have historically limited the accurate identification of helminth infections in humans. Analysis of 450 human stool samples revealed an overall helminth infection rate of 5.7% using conventional techniques. The specific infection rates were 0.4% for Strongyloides stercoralis, 0.6% for Schistosoma mansoni, 1.7% for Hymenolepis nana, and 2.8% for Ascaris lumbricoides. Notably, no infections were recorded in the 30–39 and ≥40-year age groups, while the highest infection rate (16.3%, P≤0.01) was observed in indi

Abstract
<title>Background:

Quercetin, a crucial plant flavonoid, exhibits a range of pharmacological properties. A significant body of literature explores the antibacterial activity of the substance and its potential mode of action. Quercetin has shown the capacity to inhibit the growth of several types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi and viruses.

Objectives:

The work presented sought to identify siderophore genes in quercetin-resi

Phylogenetic Analysis and Detection of Drug Resistance Gene in Theileria annulata Isolated from Buffaloes
...Show More Authors

Bovine theileriosis, caused by Theileria annulate, is disease affecting cattle and buffaloes worldwide. The current study aimed to screen the blood samples of 30 naturally suspected local buffaloes infected with Theileria species. The blood samples were initially examined by light microscopic and then the positive samples were subjected to PCR reactions. All 30 animals indicated clinical symptoms, such as high fever, loss of appetite, the presence of the hard tick, and enlargement of lymph nodes. The amplified products of 18S rRNA were analyzed, along with molecular detection of the drug-binding site alterations and interrelated changes in the cytochrome b (cyto b) gene. Blood smears revealed the presence of infected erythrocytes wi

Molecular Identification and Phylogenetic Analysis of Salmonella‎ species ‎Isolated from Diarrheal Children and Dogs in Baghdad Governorate, ‎Iraq‎
...Show More Authors

This work aimed to use conventional PCR to identify Salmonella‎ spp. that ‎were isolated from diarrheal children and healthy and diarrheic dogs based on four ‎virulence genes, hilA, stn, spvR‎, and marT. Sixteen Salmonella‎ isolates including: 9 ‎isolated from children's diarrhea from three species (S. Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis, S. ‎Typhi) and seven isolated from dogs including (S. Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis, S. ‎Muenchen), were identified primarily by several methods. The PCR products of the 16S ‎rRNA gene were sequenced and examined using BLAST analysis to find differences and ‎similarities between these Iraqi isolates and already-known global strains in order to ‎construct the phylogenetic tree of S.
