The present paper aims to examine the use of the persuasive rules in texts and images to determine the role of these visual modes in recalling or adding what they mention. Such a study helps set clearly which visual mode is much more convincing, the image or the text. Scholars generally agreed that the visual mode is more persuasive. However, such a statement is general as it does not state exactly which type of visual mode is more convincing. Accordingly, the research questions highlighted here are: What are the persuasive strategies invested in any of these two visual modes, texts and images? And, what is the role these visual modes play to enhance the sense of persuasion? To achieve the objectives, the researchers will adopt the

To achieve the objective of the study, the researchers have selected (4) representative advertisements; (2) from Iraqi Arabic and (2) from American English. The data has been analyzed using Frame semantics theory by Fillmore (1995). Results have shown that textually, both languages invest almost an equal amount of persuasive techniques. However, Iraqi Arabic advertisements involve using swearing expressions and repetition, which is part of their culture. Pictorially speaking, in both languages, the role of images is important and supportive, but not alternative

It focuses on examining the representative tonal contours in Blair’s speech, particularly the persuasive strategies of inequality and dissimulation. The major findings have shown that the signs of power are more than the signs of manipulation in Blair’s speech. This is because Blair took the role of an omnipotent character when asserting his truth claims, and attributed that to having a reputed status as a prime minister when accessing information. The most common contours used by Blair’s speech are (H* L-L%) and (L+H* L-L%). The simple high tone (H*) refle
