Isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria from drinking tap water and Tigris River water sources in Baghdad

Water is a resource and a crucial aspect of living and surviving. In Iraq, the Tigris River is one of the most critical water sources. The present study aimed to provide an insight analysis of some water quality parameters including the microbial content of drinkable tap water and river water. Ten Water samples (T1- T10) in triplicate were collected from sampling sites -Site I (Tap water) from home water taps, supplied by the Water Filtration Station/ Al Karama Project/ Al-Karkh> 10 from Site II (R1- R10)River water from Tigris River (around or near the Water Filtration Station/ Al Karama Project) every week (from September to half of November 2022), then were immediately placed in sterile bottles and transported to Microbiology lab for the analysis. Site I, turbidity was (0.7- 6) NTU. Free Chlorine availability was 0.5- 3.5 mg/L>CFU/ mL ranged from 0 to 40 in Total Plate Count (TPC);membrane filtration method (MFM) was unsatisfactory (T1, T8,T9), other samples were satisfactory. Site II, coliform result was 5200- 9200 CFU/ 100mL;Lauryl Tryptose broth (11000–49000) MPN/100mL,;Brilliant Green Bile broth  (6900–17000 MPN/100mL); EC-MUG (E. coli medium with 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide) was4900- 22000 MPN/100mL and EC-Broth was 4900- 22000 MPN/100mL. m-Endo Agar LES was +ve for all samples. All Tigris River water samples , were contaminated with coliform bacteria: E. coli, C. freundii, and Sphingomonas paucimobilis (sample R2) as non-coliform. Site I were drinkable and reliable, corresponding to Iraqi and WHO typical parameters, while Site II was under standardization.

Microbubble Distillation for Ethanol-Water Separation

Traditional distillation processes require large amounts of energy to raise the liquid to its boiling point to effect removal of volatile components. The effect of hot water and ethanol extract of Nigella sativa in immune system of Albino Mice

The result showed that hot water and ethanol extracts of Nigella sativa contain alkaloids ,saponins, flavonoids,tannins,glycosides,terpins and steroids. Albino mice were administered orally with 0.1 of the extract at dose of 100 mg/kg, body weight the results showed high level of white blood cell ,total and differential count of WBC,phagocytosis index, mitotic index, Arthus and delayed type hypersensitivity. The result, also showed high level of hemoglobin (Hb) and the packed cell volume (PCV) the alcoholic extract has been found more efficient than hot water extract on mice.

Water flow velocity and oxide film formation effect on copper pipe corrosion

An overall mathematical model for copper pipe corrosion in flowing water was derived based on mass transfer fundamentals where we introduced the effects of boundary layer velocity, bulk flow velocity and the surface oxide protective film on the corrosion rate. A set of experiments were conducted in a straight 10mm diameter copper pipe, flow of water include six velocities of maximum value 7.33m/sec at 200C and 350C. The good agreement between the calculated and experimental corrosion rate values were achieved , the agreement reached 92% .

Stresses and pore water pressure induced by machine foundation on saturated sand

In this study, the response and behavior of machine foundations resting on dry and saturated sand was investigated experimentally. In order to investigate the response of soil and footing to steady state dynamic loading, a physical model was manufactured. The manufactured physical model could be used to simulate steady state harmonic load at different operating frequencies. Total of (84) physical models were performed. The parameters that were taken into considerations include loading frequency, size of footing and different soil conditions. The footing parameters were related to the size of the rectangular footing and depth of embedment. Two sizes of rectangular steel model footing were used (100 200 12.5 mm) and (200 400 5.0 mm).

Use of chickpea soaking water in dough fermentation and its effect on quality properties of loaf bread

This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of chickpea soaked water as a substitute for yeast in dough fermentation and its effects on sensory properties of the laboratory loaf bread. Chickpea was soaked for 24,48 and 72 hours at room temperature and used in proportion with or without yeast in dough fermentation . The results revealed that , as the percentage of soaked chickpea water substitution increased, the volume of the produced loaf bread decreased as compared with the control treatment (only yeast ).Best results were obtained by using soaked chickpea water for 24 hours in proportion of 1:1 soaked chickpea water : yeast regarding the sensory properties ,volume and leavening of the loaf bread.
