Viral Load of HBV and HCV Correlation to Torque Teno Virus (TTV) Co-Infection in Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

While hepatitis viruses A–E are established, emerging evidence points to additional, novel viral hepatitis agents. The torqueteno virus (TTV) has garnered interest due to its prevalence among patients with hepatitis, suggesting potential hepatotropism.

Aim:

This study was conducted to detect TTV antigens in individuals infected with chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and/or C (HCV) using molecular diagnostics and to explore any associations between TTV presence and demographic characteristics of the cohort.

Materials and Methods:

The current study was conducted from the period of September 2022 to April 2023, the investigation involved Iraqi patients aged between 32 and 83 years and diagnosed with HBV and HCV in National Iraqi Central Laboratories, Virology Section. We employed real-time PCR to quantify HBV and HCV viral loads and conventional PCR for TTV DNA detection.

Results:

TTV DNA was detected in 17 of the 60 patients (28.3%) with chronic HBV and HCV infections. Viral load distribution was found to be similar for both HBV and HCV. An age-related increase in viral load was noted, suggesting a trend where older individuals exhibited higher concentrations. However, no significant variation was observed that could link alterations in HBV and HCV viral loads to TTV status directly. Statistical analysis indicated a positive correlation between age and the likelihood of presenting with the virus, aligning with observed trends in other age-associated chronic conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease.

Conclusion:

The presence of TTV in patients with enduring HBV or HCV infection could implicate the virus as a contributing factor to hepatitis pathology. Studies such as this are pivotal for elucidating the age-associated risk profiles for various pathologies and shaping corresponding public health policies and preventative approaches.

Cultivation of Chlorella Vulgaris Using Airlift Photobioreactor Sparged with 5%CO 2 -Air as a Biofixing Process
...Show More Authors

The present paper addresses cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae using airlift photobioreactor that sparged with 5% CO 2 /air. The experimental data were compared with that obtained from bioreactor aerated with air and unsparged bioreactor. The results showed that the concentration of biomass is 0.36 g l -1  in sparged bioreactor with CO2/air, while, the concentration of biomass reached to 0.069 g l -1  in the unsparged bioreactor. They showed also that aerated  ioreactor.with CO2/air gives more biomass production even the bioreactor was aerated with air. This study proved that application of sparging system for  ultivation of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae using either CO2/air mixture or air has a significant

Impact of Age Factor in Cervical Abnormalities and Cancers Incidence in Some Iraqi Married Women
...Show More Authors

Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer in women worldwide, and it has the fourth highest mortality rate among cancers in women. The present study aimed to reveal the impact of age factor in cervical abnormalities and cancers incidence in some Iraqi married women. 150 scraping cervical cells samples were collected from the women clinically diagnosed with cervical abnormalities and cancer who were divided into two groups; the first group included the women with abnormal pap smear which revealed 13.33% of women were less than 30 years and followed by 66.66% of women whose age between 30-50 years and 20% of them were more than 50 years old. While the second group iclude the women with normal Pap smear (Healthy women) which revealed tha

The Effect of Co-Surfactant Charge on the Structure Properties of Prepared Nano SBA-15 Using Sodium Silicate
...Show More Authors

Mesoporous SBA-15 with nono particle size distribution, different texture properties, and morphologies have been synthesized by controlling the hydrophilic-hydrophobic character during preparation, i.e., the solubility of micelles of pluronic P123 by controlling the charge of PEO hydrophilic-inorganic silica zone using different charge surfactants CTAB (cationic), F68 (nonionic), and SDBS (anionic). Sodium silicate was used as a silica source. Eo20Po70Eo20 co-polymer was used as a template at highly acidic conditions (pH<2). The experiments were characterized using XRD, FTIR, AFM, BET, and FESEM. The XRD and FTIR tests indicated that the SBA-15 is amorphous and free from impurities. The degree of particle dispersion is sequenced

Dissemination of Carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa among burn patients in Karbala Province\IraqDissemination of Carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa among burn patients in Karbala Province\Iraq
...Show More Authors

In this study, 158 clinical samples were collected from hospitalized burn patients during the period from December 2012 to June 2013 in Karbala province\ Iraq. Bacterial isolates were identified using conventional biochemical tests and then identification was confirmed by using Vitek-2 compact system. Pseudomonas aeruginosa recovery was 60 isolates in this study. These isolates were analyzed for antibiotic susceptibility by the disk diffusion test (DDT) according to Kirby Bauer's method using seven clinically important antipseudomonal agents: carbapenems (Imipenem and Meropenem), pencillins (Piperacillin), cephalosporins (Ceftazidim), monobactam (Aztreonam), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin) and aminoglycosides (Gentamicin). Association between polymorphisms within the gene coding for tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha with outcomes of treatment in a sample of Iraqi patients with ankylosing spondylitis taking etanercept: an observational study
...Show More Authors

Background:Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a progressive, chronic inflammatory illness with an unclear etiology that explicitly targets the vertebral column, peripheral joints, and extraarticular tissues. The purpose of this research was to investigate if the existence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promoter region of the tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) gene at positions -1031T/C (rs199964), -857C/T (rs1799724) and -806C/T (rs4248158) in a sample of Iraqi AS patients could influence the patients' outcomes with etanercept.

Methods:Sixty patients with established AS receiving only etanercept were selected to enroll in this study, with a mean age of 40.75±8.6

Objective: To determine the ability of uVDBP to discern SRNS from steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) in Iraqi children. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled children with SRNS (n=31) and SSNS (n=32) from the pediatric nephrology clinic of Babylon Hospital for Maternity and Pediatrics over three months. Patients' characteristics in terms of demographics, clinical data, and urinary investigations were collected. Quantitative analysis of uVDBP levels was undertaken via a commercially available ELISA kit. Results: The median uVDBP values were significantly higher (p-value<0.001) in the SRNS group (median=10.26, IQR=5.91 μg/mL) than in the SSNS group (median=0.953, IQR=4.12 μg/mL).
