Effect of hypertension on diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Back ground: Two groups of diabetic patients ((the first include 20 patients complaining from diabetes mellitus alone, and the second include patients that
complain from both hypertension and diabetes mellitus)) were included in this study. These patients were chosen((from a large number of patients, with a proved
diagnosis, that are referred to the neurophysiology unit from the department of medicine)) to be of the same age group and gender, so that any of these two factors
can no longer be a source of any possible error in the results.
Patients & methods: The electrophysiological tests that were done to all of our patients include: sensory latency and sensory amplitude for the ulnar and sural
nerv

Hereditary renal tubular disorders: Single Iraqi center experience of 80 pediatric cases

Background: Hereditary renal tubular disorders (HRTDs) encompass various clinical syndromes and most of them have profound effects on child's growth and development,.

Patients and methods: We reviewed the medical records of eighty children (48 males and 32 females) seen over an eight years period from (sep.2004-may2012) at children welfare teaching hospital. Objectives: was to review our experience at children welfare teaching hospital in Baghdad with the various types of HRTDs and delineate the spectrum of clinical expression and outcome.

Results: The distribution of patients according to HRTD was as follows: (56.25%) proximal RTA (pRTA), (30 %) distal re

Outcomes of Operative Management of 96 Cases with Traumatic Retroperitoneal Hematoma: A Single-Institution Experience

AIM: To analyse our experiences in the management of traumatic retroperitoneal hematoma (RPH), highlighting the various challenges faced and to report on the outcome of these patients. METHODS: From May 2014 to May 2017, all patients with traumatic RPH who underwent surgical treatment were retrospectively analysed. The kind of injury, intraoperative findings, sites of hematoma, postoperative morbidity and the overall outcomes were recorded. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients; 53 with blunt trauma and 43 with penetrating injury, were included in this study. The centre-medial hematoma was observed in 24 (25%) patients, lateral hematoma in 46 (47.9%) patients, pelvic hematoma in 19 (19.8%) patients, and multiple zone hematomas in

Prevalence of bacterial types in Wagner grade three of diabetic foot ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the chronic wound infection and leads to non-traumatic lower limb amputation. Advances in diabetes research are significant and much needed because diabetes is on the rise worldwide and is considered by some experts already to be at an epidemic level. Among diabetic patients 70% were males and 30% were females. Aerobic bacteria 104(82%) were the most frequently isolated than anaerobic bacteria 23(18%). Among aerobes Gram negative bacteria 67(64.4%) were more commonly isolated than Gram positive 37(35.5%). The three most frequently found that S. aureus 28(22%) followed by P. mirabilis 22(17.3%) then E. coli 14(11%). Among anaerobic bacteria Gram negative bacteria 16(69.5%) were predominantly isolated th

Intrauterine Insemination and Luteal Support Therapy Outcomes in Unexplained Infertility, Mild and Marked Luteal Defective Infertile Women

Back ground: Inadequate secretory transformation of the endometrium resulting from deficient ovarian progesterone secretion is a cause of infertility and recurrent abortion
in luteal phase defects (LPD) women. LPD are diagnosed in 20% of infertile patients and 60% of patients with recurrent abortion and 50% of anovulatory women.
Aim : The objective of the present study was to compare pregnancy outcome following sperm penetration assay (SPA), intrauterine insemination (IUI) and luteal support
therapy (LST) in infertile patients with unexplained infertility (UI) mild and marked LPD.
Materials and Methods: Men with normal semen analyses and positive sperm penetration assay scores were included in this St

Mitochondrial Copies Number and Some Renal Function Biomarkers in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Metformin

One of the most common metabolic illnesses in the world is diabetes mellitus. This metabolic disease is responsible for a large percentage of the burden of kidney damage and dysfunction. The goal of this study was to look into the renal function of diabetic patients using metformin monotherapy who came to Mosul's Al-Wafaa diabetes care and research facility. During the period 1 January 2021 to 30 April 2021, 47 patients with T2DM (age 50.48 7.74 years) were enrolled in this case-control study. These patients' results were compared to a control group of 47 seemingly healthy people (age 45.89 9.06 years). All participants' demographic and medical histories were acquired through the delivery of a questionnaire. Blood samples were collected

Ultrasonic fetal Doppler and growth indices and their relation to immediate neonatal outcomes in different severities of maternal anemia

Doppler assessment may lead to intervention that reduces the risk of fetal brain damage. Aim of thestudy: to assess the relation between ultrasonic hemodynamic Doppler indices of middle cerebral and umbilical arteries (PI, RI), growth indices to immediate neonatal outcomes (weight, head & abdominal circumference, APGAR scores at 1 and 5 minutes and neonatal unit admission) in women with mild, moderate and severe anemia during pregnancy. Present study is a clinical prospective study carried out in Al-Elwiya Maternity Teaching Hospital during (January-Jun) 2019, all anemic pregnant women presented to Obstetrical wards in hospitals for emergency cesarean section were the study population. The final sample selected was 120 pregnant women. Ultra

Iraqi Experience of Factor VII use in Children

Bleeding disorders in pediatrics is an important issue and can be lifethreatening if not diagnosed and treated appropriately. We aimed to evaluate Iraqi pediatric practice (as an example of resource-limited settings) about the use of Recombinant Activated Factor VII (RFVIIa) in bleeding disorders, with emphasis on its effectiveness and safety, in comparison with adjuvant therapy. Budget restrictions may affect the availability of even lifesaving drugs such as (RFVIIa). Therefore, we tried to investigate the local experience of pediatric bleeding, with the evaluation of the potential ability of adjuvant therapy of blood products and vitamin K to substitute RFVIIa in case of non-availability. During a complete one year‘s period, 35 patients

DEXAMETHASONE USE IN MANAGEMENT OF COVID19: A REVIEW

The lack of active 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic treatment creates a challenge for researchers and scientists to find the most appropriate treatment for this disease. Dexamethasone, according to the findings of the RECOVERY clinical trial, declared mid-June 2020 in print media was one of those therapies. Although the results from retrospective studies are not strongly supportive of corticosteroid routine use in COVID-19 despite the signals for some benefits, the dedicated RECOVERY trial found a significant reduction in death with dexamethasone only in severe cases on a ventilator or moderate cases on supplemental oxygen therapy nevertheless, no benefit observed in mild to moderate cases requiring no oxygen.
