Molecular Study of Quercetin-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolated from Wound Infections
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

Quercetin, a crucial plant flavonoid, exhibits a range of pharmacological properties. A significant body of literature explores the antibacterial activity of the substance and its potential mode of action. Quercetin has shown the capacity to inhibit the growth of several types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi and viruses.

Objectives:

The work presented sought to identify siderophore genes in quercetin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Bacterial isolates from swab samples taken from patients suffering from complicated wound infections.

Materials and Methods:

A total of 200 swab samples were collected from attending patients. Compared to patients who are male (41%), the majority of patients (59%) were female. The patients have provided swab samples for sterile swab transport, displaying signs of a wound infection. The samples were cultivated on nutrient agar, blood agar, MacConkey agar, and cetrimide agar, and they were incubated for 24 h at 37°C.

Results:

The results were recorded by isolating gram-negative bacteria and observing developed colonies after identifying n = 59 (29.5%) isolates from 200 clinical samples as P. aeruginosa . The plcN and exoS genes were found in the isolates chosen. In this study, n = 10 (100%) isolates tested positive for the 16s rRNA housekeeping gene, n = 8 (80%) of isolates tested positive for the plcN gene, and n = 8 (80%) isolates tested positive for the exoS gene.

Conclusion:

The high prevalence of plcN and exoS gene detection in quercetin-resistant strains may be the primary reason for the high virulence factor in connection with quercetin resistance.

Identification and Molecular Detection of Klebsiella spp. from the Buccal Cavity of Humans and Dogs
...Show More Authors

Klebsiella infections in the oral cavities of both humans and dogs have been increasingly reported and are associated with various buccal infections, as well as systemic infections. These infections appear to be rising particularly among pets and their owners, suggesting a possible bidirectional transmission between humans and dogs. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the potential link of mixed infections involving Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterococcus spp. Buccal cavity samples were collected from humans (n = 25) and dogs (n = 25). Samples were initially enriched in tryptic soy broth and subsequently cultured on tryptic soy agar, MacConkey agar, and blood agar. All isolates were identified using the VITEK 2 system, and eight selec

Diagnostic study of the most important fungal infections associated with some inflammatory bowel disease in Iraqi patients
...Show More Authors

The current study aimed to isolate and diagnose the fungi associated with the inflammatory bowel disease patients with 150 samples distributed between 50 samples from Crohn's patients and 50 samples from ulcerative colitis patients, 50 control from Al-Kindy Al Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, Baghdad. Five types of yeast were isolated and identified, namely C. albicans, C.glabarta, Tropicales, C. parapsilosis, C. and C., krusi C. parapsilosis and.and Aspergillus, Penicillium, Muocer, Rhizopous, Saccharomycosis, and Cryptococcus, The results indicated the dominance of Candida spp. In crohn’s disease, the frequency of isolated Candida albicans was 24 (58.54%), Candida glabrata 11 (26.86%), Candida tropicalis 5 (12.2%) and Candida krusi was 1 (

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PSEUDOMONAS SP THAT PRODUCE LIPASE: ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PSEUDOMONAS SP THAT PRODUCE LIPASE
...Show More Authors

15 local isolates of Pseudomonas were obtained from 35 samples from several sources such as soil, water and some high-fat foods. The ability of isolates to produce lipase was measured by the size of the clarification zone formed around the colonies on the lipase production medium and by measuring the enzymatic activity and specific enzymatic activity, the isolate M3 was found to be the most efficient for production of the enzyme, This isolate was identified by microscopic, morphological, some biochemical tests and genetic diagnosis of 16S gene sequences by using the (PCR) technique, and then comparing the results obtained with the National Center for Biotechnology Inform

This study was conducted to isolate and identify killer yeast Hanseniaspora uvarum from dates vinegar and measurement the ability of this yeast to produce killer toxin. The antimicrobial activity of the concentrated supernatant containing partially purified concentrated killer toxin was also detected against several pathogenic bacteria and yeast species, which includes two types of yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and Candida tropicalis and four human pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeurginosa. In addition, the antagonistic activity of examined yeast have been studied toward four types of fungi, where two are pathogenic

The best optimum temperature for the isolate was 30○C while the pH for the maximum mineral removal was 6. The best primary mineral removal was 100mg/L, while the maximum removal for all minerals was obtained after 8 hrs, and the maximum removal efficiency was obtained after 24 hrs. The results have proved that the best aeration for maximum removal was obtained at rotation speed of 150 rpm/ minute. Inoculums of 5ml/ 100ml which contained 106 cell/ ml showed maximum removal for the isolate.

An attempt to Stimulate lipids for Biodiesel Production from locally Isolated Microalgae in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Two locally isolated microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris Bejerinck and Nitzschia palea (Kützing) W. Smith) were used in the current study to test their ability to production biodiesel through stimulated in different nitrogen concentration treatments (0, 2, 4, 8 gl ), and effect of nitrogen concentration on the quantity of primary product (carbohydrate, protein ), also the quantity and quality of lipid. The results revealed that starvation of nitrogen led to high lipid yielding, in C. vulgaris and N. palea the lipid content increased from 6.6% to 40% and 40% to 60% of dry weight (DW) respectively. Also in C. vulgaris, the highest carbohydrate was 23% of DW from zero nitrate medium and the highest protein was 50% of DW in the treatment 8gl. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) contain free –COOH which thought to be responsible for the GI irritation associated with all traditional NSAIDs. The esterification of this group is one of an approach to ultimate aim for reduce the gastric irritation; so in this study we synthesized and preliminarily evaluated new ester compounds as new analogues with expected selectivity toward COX-2 enzyme. Synthetic procedures have been successfully developed for the generation of the target compounds (III a and b). The synthetic approach involved multi-steps procedures which include: Synthesis of 4-hydroxy benzene sulphonamide ( I b ), synthesis of Naproxen and Ibuprofen acyl chloride and then reacting them with 4-hydroxy benzene sulphon
