يهدف البحث إلى معرفة الأثر البيئي للنفايات الطبية في مركز قضاء أبو غريب ، إذ تضمن البحث تعريف النفايات الطبية وانواعها ، وتم التعرف على التوزيع الجغرافي للمؤسسات الصحية الموجودة في مركز القضاء وشملت المستشفيات وبلغ عددها (2) مستشفى واحدة حكومية و الاخرى أهلية ومراكز صحية بلغ عددها ( 11 ) مركز صحي موزعة على عدة مناطق ، وعيادة شعبية واحدة و بيوت صحية عددها ( 2 ) وصيدليات بلغ عددها ( 65) صيدلية موزعة بالمناطق التي تتواجد بها المراكز الطبية والعيادات الطبية الخاصة ومختبرات تحليل الدم . و لمعرفة الأثر البيئي للنفايات الطبية على التربة والمياه الجوفية تم اخذ عينات للتربة بعمق ( 30 ) سم لخمس مواقع داخل المؤسسات الصحية لمواقع تجمع النفايات ،إذ شملت مستشفى أبو غريب العام ، ومستشفى الشفاء الأهلي ، ومركز صحي الزيتون ، ومركز صحي عكركوف ، و مركز صحي الذهب الأبيض ، واخذ عينات من المياه لثلاثة ابار قريبة من المؤسسات الصحية لعشر عناصر شملت ( PH ، EC ، CO ، Cd ، Pb ، Cu ، Ni ، Zn ، Mn ، Cr ) ، وبعد دراسة المؤشرات الخاصة بتلوث التربة والمياه الجوفية من خلال العينات التي اخذت من تلك المواقع ومقارنتها بالمعايير والمحددات المحلية المسموح بها لتركيز ملوثات التربة والمياه الجوفية إذ اظهرت النتائج ارتفاع نسب اغلب العناصر وتجاوزها للمحددات البيئية المسموح بها ، وسجل موقع مستشفى أبو غريب العام اكثر المواقع تلوثاً لارتفاع اعداد المراجعين لانها المستشفى الحكومي الوحيد في القضاء وتضم جميع الاختصاصات وبالتالي ارتفاع معدلات النفايات الناتجة عنها مما لها اثر على التربة والمياه الجوفية ، وتبين وجود تغيرات فصلية نظراً لاخذ العينات في فصلي الصيف والشتاء ، فضلاً عن اثر النفايات بالتلوث البصري بسبب رمي النفايات الطبية خارج المؤسسات الصحية بدون معالجة وطرح مياه الصرف الصحي لمستشفى أبو غريب إلى نهر جلوب مما يسبب تلوث بصري وانتشار الروائح الكريهة. ولمعرفة الأثر البيئي لتلوث الهواء تم قياس الملوثات الهوائية لمحرقة مستشفى أبو غريب العام ومقارنتها بالمحددات البيئية واظهرت النتائج تجاوز نسب جميع الغازات باستثناء غاز احادي أوكسيد الكربون الذي كانت نسبته ضمن الحدود المسموح بها ، وارتفاع نسب العناصر الثقيلة .
