The Relationship between Anemia and Bone Mineral Density Measured by Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry

Background: The bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebra has been assessed according to the results of the Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA). Although anemia is known to affect bone mineral density, at the present time, it is not clear which vertebra is more affected by this disease. Objective: To evaluate the effects of anemia on the bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebra in comparison with a normal subject and determine which part of the lumbar vertebra is more affected by anemia. Methods: All 205 participants in this study complained of bone pain (90 males and 105 females). 95 patients, including both sexes, suffered from anemia. Additionally, the study included 110 seemingly healthy volunteers as the control group. All participants were studied regarding their bone mineral density for lumbar vertebrae using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Results: The DEXA outcomes revealed highly statistically significant differences between the control and patients of each lumbar vertebra in the same sex. In addition, there were significant differences in bone mineral density among the lumbar vertebrae of the same sex. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that examining the bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebrae is a more effective and appropriate method for studying the bone mineral density (BMD) of the bony skeleton in any subject, with L1 and L4 vertebrae being more susceptible to osteoporosis than other vertebrae.

A proposed dual size design for energy minimization in sub-threshold circuits

Sub-threshold operation has received a lot of attention in limited performance applications. However, energy optimization of sub-threshold circuits should be performed with the concern of the performance limitation of such circuit. In this paper, a dual size design is proposed for energy minimization of sub-threshold CMOS circuits. The optimal downsizing factor is determined and assigned for some gates on the off-critical paths to minimize the energy at the maximum allowable performance. This assignment is performed using the proposed slack based genetic algorithm which is a heuristic-mixed evolutionary algorithm. Some gates are heuristically assigned to the original and the downsized design based on their slack time determined by static tim

Matter density distribution and longitudinal form factors for the ground and excited states of 17Ne exotic nucleus

The two-frequency shell model approach is used to calculate the
ground state matter density distribution and the corresponding root
mean square radii of the two-proton17Ne halo nucleus with the
assumption that the model space of 15O core nucleus differ from the
model space of extra two loosely bound valence protons. Two
different size parameters bcore and bhalo of the single particle wave
functions of the harmonic oscillator potential are used. The
calculations are carried out for different configurations of the outer
halo protons in 17Ne nucleus and the structure of this halo nucleus
shows that the dominant configuration when the two halo protons in

Theoretical Study of Density Distributions and Size Radii of 8B and 17Ne

The proton, neutron and matter density distributions, the corresponding size radii and elastic electron scattering form factors of one-proton8B and two-proton 17Ne halo nuclei are calculated. The theoretical technique used to fulfill calculations is by assuming that both nuclei under study are composed of two main parts; the first is the compact core and the second is the unstable halo part. The single-particle radial wavefunctions of harmonic-oscillator (HO) and Woods-Saxon (WS) potentials are used to study core and halo parts, respectively. And other approach is studied by using HO potential for both core and halo parts, but using two HO size parameters for both supposed parts. The long ta

Gamma-Ray Shielding Effectiveness of Clay and Boron Doped Clay Material at Different Thicknesses

In this work, the gamma-ray shielding parameters of red clay and boron-doped red clay with different sample thicknesses are theoretically and experimentally reported. These shielding parameters are considered at a photon energy of 0.662 MeV emitted from 137Cs. The theoretical calculations are demonstrated using the XCom software program, while a scintillation detector, NaI(TI), with an efficiency of 98% is used to attain the experimental results of the mass attenuation coefficient of the prepared samples. The acquired results show that the boron-doped clay delivers a higher mass attenuation coefficient as compared to those of pure clay. Additionally, the mass attenuation coefficient exhibits an increasing behavior w

Effect of Gamma Ray Irradiation on Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO Thin Films

In this research, the structural and optical measurements were made on the Zinc oxide (ZnO) films prepared by two methods once by using chemical spray pyrolysis technique, and another by using thermal evaporation technique before and after irradiation by Gamma –Ray (γ – rays) from source type (Cs 137) with an energy (0.611)MeV as a function of gamma dose (0.15,0.3 and 0.45) Gy. The thickness of all films prepared by two method was about (300 ± 50) nm. XRD is used to characterize the structural properties, the results demonstrated that all samples prepared by two method before and after irradiation have polycrystalline structure with a preferred orientation (002).Also it showed that the structural properties are weakly

Heat Transfer and Thermal Expansion of Coefficient EP -(MWCNT/x-TiO2)Nanocomposites

The thermal properties (thermal transfer and thermal expansion coefficient) of the enhanced epoxy resin (MWCNT / x-TiO2) were studied by weight ratios with the values (0%, 3%, 5%, 7% and 10%) and a constant ratio of 3% of MWCNT. The ultrasonic technology was used to prepare the neat and composites which were then poured into Teflon molds according to standard conditions. Thermo-analyzer sensor technology was used to measure thermal transfer (thermal conductivity, thermal flow, thermal diffusion, thermal energy and heat resistance). The thermal conductivity, flow, and thermal conductivity values were increased sequentially by increasing the weight ratio of the filler while the results of stored energy values an

Structural, Gas Sensing and Dielectric Properties of HoXFe1-X FeO3 Perovskite Compound

Environmental pollutions and resources depletion motivates scientific research to innovate technologies for sustainable productive systems. To develop gas sensing substance with optimized performance a perovskite compound of HoxFe1-x FeO3 (where x= 0, 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05) were prepared by standard solid state reaction technique. The crystal structure was studied by XRD, which confirmed the formation of polycrystalline orthorhombic structure with space group Pbnm type perovskite. The preferred crystal growth of the main peak was (211). The structural parameters were also calculated and it was found that the lattice constants and particle size increased with the Ho doping ratio. The electrical properties were studied using the Hall effect,
