The efficacy of non‐surgical platelet‐rich fibrin application on clinical periodontal parameters and periostin level in periodontitis: Clinical trial
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Platelet‐rich fibrin (PRF) has been widely used in regenerative dentistry due to many growth factors produced. Periostin, a matricellular protein, is a reliable marker for tissue regeneration. Periostin is part of the cellular matrix and regulates bone homeostasis. This study aims to explore the efficacy of PRF in improvement of the clinical periodontal parameters as an adjunct to the scaling and root planing and to evaluate periostin level in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) at baseline, 1‐ and 3‐month recall visits. Fourteen periodontitis patients who met the inclusion criteria were recruited in this study. Two contralateral periodontal pockets with 4–6 mm in depth in each patient were selected. The sites in every participant were randomly allocated into control sites or test sites. In control sites, only conventional scaling and root planing was carried out. In test sites, however, scaling and root planing method and PRF were applied. Periostin level in GCF and clinical periodontal parameters were measured. The test sites revealed greater relative attachment gain (2.614 ± 0.606 mm and 3.321 ± 0.668 mm) than control sites (1.285 ± 0.671 mm and 1.839 ± 0.632 mm) and a significant pocket reduction (2.535 ± 0.664 mm and 3.321 ± 0.668 mm) than the control sites (1.21 ± 0.508 mm and 1.892 ± 0.655 mm) at 1‐ and 3‐month recall visits respectively. In the test sites, level of periostin (48.83 ± 9.3 ng/μl and 98.90 ± 24.94 ng/μl) were greater than periostin levels in the control sites (42.65 ± 7.03 ng/μl and 49.29 ± 15.14 ng/μl) at 1‐ and 3‐month recall visits respectively. In conclusion, the non‐surgical application of PRF as an adjunct to scaling and root planing significantly improved the clinical periodontal parameters through raising periostin level in GCF.

Clinical use of tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors in Iraq: a review of their documented efficacy, safety, and associated genetics
...Show More Authors

This comprehensive review examines the efficacy and safety of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) inhibitors in treating various autoimmune diseases, and focuses on their application in Iraqi patients. Elevated TNF-α levels are linked to autoimmune disorders, leading to the development of anti-TNF-α therapies such as infliximab, etanercept, adalimumab, certolizumab pegol, and golimumab, which have gained FDA approval for conditions like psoriasis, in¬flammatory bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. While these therapies demonstrate sig¬nificant therapeutic benefits, including improved quality of life and disease management, they also carry risks, such as increased susceptibility to infections and pote

A typical clinical presentation of molluscum contagiosum in Iraqi patients;clinical descriptive study
...Show More Authors

Background Molluscum contagiosum is skin disease caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) usually causing one or more small dome shaped umbilicated papules with symptoms that maybe self-resolve. MCV was once a disease primarily of children, but it has evolved to become a sexually transmitted disease in adults. It is believed to be a member of the pox virus family. In addition to the classic presentation of the disease; it can also come in different clinical forms that simulate large number of dermatolological disease.
Objective: To study different clinical forms of Molluscum contagiosum presentation in different age groups of Iraqi patients.
Method:This clinical descriptive study was performed in the outpatient department of

Periodontal health status and salivary parameters in pregnancy
...Show More Authors

Background: Pregnancy is considered a major risk factor for development and progression of periodontal disease. There are hormonal changes in both estrogen and progesterone hormones in addition to bacterial effect and poor oral hygiene that will enhance development of periodontal disease in pregnant women. Materials and methods: Seventy subjects were enrolled in the study, the subjects with an age range (20-35) years old without any history of systemic disease. The subjects were divided into 20 non-pregnant women they represent the control group (G I), 30 pregnant women with gingivitis (GII) and 20 pregnant women with periodontitis (GIII).All periodontal parameters (plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth an

Effectiveness of Intra articular Injection of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Patients with Anterior Disc Displacement with Reduction
...Show More Authors

Background: Anterior disc displacement with reduction (ADDWR) is the most common form of the internal derangement (ID) of temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It is a painful progressive dysfunction and clinically characterized by reciprocal clicking due to shift in the disc anteriorly in relation to the condyle and fossa during mandible elevation. Minimally invasive therapy such as intra-articular injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used. PRP is a natural autologous product with a high platelet concentration obtained by centrifugation process to enhance tissue healing through several growth factors (GFs), which are released after endogenous activation. The aim of this study is to assess this technique which is increasingly used toda

Chronic Tennis Elbow Treated by Platelet-Rich Plasma Versus Steroid Injections: A Comparative Study
...Show More Authors

Background: Painful elbow joint over the lateral epicondyle especially with resisted wrist extension are common signs of lateral epicondyle tendinopathy, also called tennis elbow. Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcome of local platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection in patients with chronic tennis elbow compared with a steroid (Depomedrol 40 mg) injection. Methods: A total of 88 patients with chronic tennis elbow were treated at Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital and private clinics. All patients had chronic pain for about 24 weeks or more and had failed first line treatment. The patients dividing into two groups, Group A injected with PRP (n = 44), and group B injected with depomedrol 40 mg (n = 44). A good clinical result w
