NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONOF STEAM FILM CONDENSATION ON A VERTICAL TUBE
...Show More Authors

Film condensation of steam on a vertical tube is investigated numerically and experimentally,   in the present work. A mathematical model was set based on the basic conservation laws of mass   and energy, Nusselts analysis of film condensation, and empirical equations available in the   literature. Then, a simulation program in FORTRAN language was developed which simulates the   film condensation of steam on a vertical tube. A complete steam tables subprogram was also   developed and incorporated with the main program. The experimental work was carried out using a   steam condensation test bench. The inlet and outlet cooling water temperatures, steam temperature   and pressure, tube surface temperature at center, and cooling water flow rate are recorded during   each experimental test run. The inlet cooling water temperature, steam temperature, and cooling   water flow rate are used as an input for the numerical program, then the program calculates tube   surface temperature distribution, cooling water temperature distribution, local heat transfer rate,   local condensation heat transfer coefficient, condensate boundary layer thickness distribution, total   heat transfer rate, and average condensation heat transfer coefficient. The effect of various   parameters on the condensation heat transfer coefficient, such as steam temperature, steam-surface   temperature difference, and the presence of non-condensable gas were investigated and reported   graphically. It was found that increasing (steam-surface) temperature difference while keeping the   steam temperature constant results in an increase in condensate boundary layer thickness, which in   turn causes a decrease in condensation heat transfer coefficient. On the other hand, increasing steam   temperature and keeping the (steam-surface) temperature difference constant leads to an increase in   condensation heat transfer coefficient. In addition, the presence of non-condensable gas with   different concentrations was also investigated and it was shown that it causes a noticeable reduction   in the average condensation heat transfer coefficient. An equation for calculating average   condensation heat transfer coefficient on a vertical tube was also developed. The experimental data   obtained from the test runs were compared with numerical results and showed good agreement.   Thus, it can be concluded that the present computational program is suitable for simulating steam   condensation on a vertical tube.

Augmentation of Nanofluids Heat transfer in a Circular Tube with Baffled Winged Twisted Swirl Generator
...Show More Authors

This article introduces a numerical study on heat exchange and corrosion coefficients of Zinc–water nanofluid stream in a circular tube fitted with swirl generator utilizing CFD emulation. Different  forms of swirl generator which have the following properties of plain twisted tape (PTT) and baffle wings twisted tape (BTT) embeds with various ratio of twisting (y = 2.93, 3.91 and 4.89), baffle inclination angles (β = 0°, - 30° and 30) joined with 1%, 1.5% and 2% volume fraction of ZnO nanofluid were utilized for simulation. The results demonstrated that the heat and friction coefficients conducted by these two forms of vortex generator raised with Reynolds number, twist ratio and baffle inclination angles decreases. Likewise, t

Numerical Investigation on Oil/Water Separation by Compact Nozzle- Axial Hydrocyclone
...Show More Authors

The separation of fluid-fluid mixtures is a major issue in various sectors. The liquid-liquid hydro-cyclone has a wide range of applications in various sectors due to its great efficiency in separating fluid mixtures, ease of installation, and low cost. In crude oil production, high water is consumed following the degrading of production quality, high processing costs, costs, and environmental impacts. Axial hydro cyclone is a tool for Downhole Oil/Water Separation (DOWS) in the petroleum production industry, but it has limitations. The main purpose of this work is to simulate the effect of compacting the conventional inline hydro cyclone with a converging-diverging nozzle on the oil/water dynamic flow and the separation process to

Effect of Halabjah Earthquake on Al-Wand Earth Dam: Numerical Analysis
...Show More Authors

The Halabja earthquake occurred on 12/11/2017 in Iraq, with a magnitude of 7.3 Mw, which happened in the Iraqi-Iranian borders. This earthquake killed and injured many people in the Kurdish region in the north of the country. There is no natural disaster more dangerous than earthquake, especially it occurs without warning, great attention must be paid to the impact of earthquakes on the soil and preparing for a wave of earthquakes. Numerical modeling using specific elements is considered a powerful tool to investigate the required behavior of structures in Geotechnical engineering, and the main objective of this is to assess the response of the Al-Wand dam to the Halabja earthquake, as this dam is located in an area that has been su

Evaluation of T-Shaped Fins With a Novel Layout for Improved Melting in a Triple-Tube Heat Storage System
...Show More Authors

The effects of T-shaped fins on the improvement of phase change materials (PCM) melting are numerically investigated in vertical triple-tube storage containment. The PCM is held in the middle pipe of a triple-pipe heat exchanger while the heat transfer fluid flows through the internal and external pipes. The dimension effects of the T-shaped fins on the melting process of the PCM are investigated to determine the optimum case. Results indicate that while using T-shaped fins improves the melting performance of the PCM, the improvement potential is mainly governed by the fin’s body rather than the head. Hence, the proposed T-shaped fin did not noticeably improve melting at the bottom of the PCM domain; additionally, a flat fin is ad

Numerical investigation on heat transfer enhancement and turbulent flow characteristics in a high aspect ratio rectangular duct roughened by intersecting ribs with inclined ribs
...Show More Authors

In this study, the effect of intersecting ribs with inclined ribs on the heat transfer and flow characteristics of a high aspect ratio duct has been numerically investigated. The Relative roughness pitch (P/e) is 10 and the Reynolds number range from 35,700 to 72,800. ANSYS (Fluent-Workbench 18.0) software has been utilized to solve the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with the Standard k-ε turbulence model. Three ribbed models have been used in this study. Model 1 which is a just inclined ribs, Model 2 which has a single longitudinal rib at the center with inclined ribs and Model 3 which has two longitudinal ribs at the sides. The results showed that the heat transfer rate has been enhanced when the int

Analytic and numerical solution for duffing equations
...Show More Authors

<p>Daftardar Gejji and Hossein Jafari have proposed a new iterative method for solving many of the linear and nonlinear equations namely (DJM). This method proved already the effectiveness in solved many of the ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and integral equations. The main aim from this paper is to propose the Daftardar-Jafari method (DJM) to solve the Duffing equations and to find the exact solution and numerical solutions. The proposed (DJM) is very effective and reliable, and the solution is obtained in the series form with easily computed components. The software used for the calculations in this study was MATHEMATICA® 9.0.</p>
