Study on Frequency of Hard Tick Isolated from Goat (<i>Capra hircus</i> Linnaeus, 1758) in Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>In Iraq, the domestic goat Capra hircus is valued as a valuable commercial resource. As obligatory ectoparasites, ixodid ticks cause significant harm to their animal hosts. Hard ticks parasitize the abdomen, inside limbs, ears, and head. Out of a total of 200 samples evaluated, 150 goat- infested samples had a total of 450 Hard ticks (303male and 147 female) and were infested at a rate of 75%. The results of the current research eight species of hard ticks were recognized. Goat species belonging to the family Ixodidae (Capra hircus: Linnaeus, 1758), obtained from distinct areas involving: the Iraqi capital Baghdad governorate [Al-Yusifiya], Al-Anbar governorate [Al-Saqlawiya], the city of Karbala governorate [Shithatha], Wasit governorate [Al Shahaimiya, Badra and Al-Moafaqiya], Dohok governorate, Diyala governorate [Al-Saadiya, Baqooba and Khanigin], Salahaddin governorate [Sammara], Al-Dewaniya governorate [Al-Daghara and Shamiya], Al-Nasirya governorate and and Babil governorate [Al-Mosayaib and Jbala]. There are ten governorates in Iraq that have an abundance of goat farms. These results may have more significance than previous data on the likelihood of hard tick infestation in goats. Sample collected from January 1st, 2023, until September 30th, 2023. The objectives of this experiment are to accurately identify ixodid ticks and determine their distribution throughout Iraqi goat populations. The most recent research indicates that two new species in Iraq have found a new home in goats include : Rhipicephalus appendiculatus and Hyalomma rufipes.</p>

Frequency of HLA Antigens in a Sample of Iraqi Brucellosis Patients
...Show More Authors

Fifty one patients with serologically confirmed brucellosis and 70 healthy controls were phenotyped for HLA-A, -B, -DR and -DQ antigens by using standard microlympho-cytotoxicity method, and lymphocytes defined by their CD markers (CD3, CD4, CD8 and CD19). The results revealed a significant (Pc = 0.001) increased frequency of HLA-DR8 (41.18 vs. 10.0%) in the patients . A significant increased percentage of CD8+ lymphocytes was also increased in the patients (25.15 vs. 22.0%; P = 0.006), while CD3+ lymphocytes were significantly decreased (75.1 vs. 79.4%; P = 0.02).

A comparison of the Effects of Lemon Peel -Silver Nanoparticles Versus Brand Toothpastes and Mouthwashes on Staphylococcus Spp. Isolated From Teeth Caries
...Show More Authors

Thirty one  samples of gum swabs were collected from patients with tooth caries (5-30 years old)  from the College of Science (Biology department )- University of Baghdad- Iraq for the period from October 2018 to December 2018. , The samples were transported, after inoculation in a transport media (nutrient broth), to the laboratory of the College of Science and then cultured on mannitol salt agar and  blood agar). The isolates belonging to Staphylococcus spp. were identified by biochemical tests and Vitek 2 compact system, while the more antibiotic resistant isolates were identified by using Polymerase Chain Reaction(ï´¾PCR)  and sequencing of 16SrRNA . The results showed sharp UV absorption peaks at 330 - 340nm and AFM at 5

Antimicrobial Resistance and biofilm formation of Enterococcus spp isolated from human and pet animals

Enterococci species (spp.) are naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), oral cavity of both human and animals causing several infections including bacteremia, meningitis, endocarditis, intra-abdominal infections, wound infections, urinary tract infections (UTI), atherosclerosis and play a critical role in the riskiness or development of periodontitis, particularly in a suitable mouth environment (Comerlato et al., 2020; Mendes et al., 2020; Xiong et al., 2021; H Elaywe, 2007). Recurrent and continues antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of opportunistic microorganisms is one of the serious public health risk, enterococci spp are often intrinsic resistant to antibiotics class routinly used in treatment such as Cephalosporins, Macrolids

Production, Extraction, and Purification of An Extracellular Melanin Pigment from Clinically Isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa
...Show More Authors

Introduction: Melanin is a high-molecular weight pigment produced through the oxidative polymerization of phenolic or indolic compounds and plays a perfect role in UV-light shielding, as well as in photoprotection. Among biopolymers, melanin is unique in many aspects. This study is designed to screen Production, extraction and characterizes of an extracellular melanin pigment from clinically isolated P. aeruginosa. Objective: The aim of the current study is isolation and diagnosis of P.aeruginosa using vitek-2 compact system and screening the ability to produce melanin and characterization of extracted melanin by UV-vis, FTIR, XRD and SEM. Materials and methods: the samples swab inoculated on cetrimide agar as selective media and incubated

Characterization and Cytotoxic Activity of Cytosine Deaminase Enzyme Purified from Locally Isolated Escherichia coli
...Show More Authors

This research was aimed to the purification and characterization of cytosine deaminase as a medically important enzyme from locally isolated Escherichia coli; then studying its cytotoxic anticancer effects against colon cancer cell line. Cytosine deaminase was subjected to three purification steps including precipitation with 90% ammonium sulfate saturation, ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose column, and gel filtration chromatography throughout Sephadex G-200 column. Specific activity of the purified enzyme was increased up to 9 U/mg with 12.85 folds of purification and 30.85% enzyme recovery. Characterization study of purified enzyme revealed that the molecular weight of cytosine deaminase produced by E. coli was about 48 KDa,
