This research involves the synthesis of some sulphanyl benzimidazole derivatives (Ia-c), which were prepared from reaction of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole substituted benzyl halide, and structures were identified by spectral methods[FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR].These compounds were investigated as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 1M H2SO4 solution using weight loss, potentiostatic polarization methods; obtained results showed that the sulphanyl benzimidazole derivatives retard both cathodic and anodic reactions in acidic media, by virtue of adsorption on the carbon steel surface. The chromatographic behaviour of liquid crystalline compounds benzylidene-p-aminobenzoic acid and 4-(p-methyl benzylidene)-p-aminobenzoic acid as stationary phases for the separation of dimethylphenol isomers was investigated. These isomers were analysed on benzylidene-p-aminobenzoic acid within a nematic range of 169-194 ◦C with a temperature interval of 5 ◦C. Better peak resolution was at a column temperature of 190 ◦C. The analysis was repeated on a 4-(p-methyl benzylidene)-p-aminobenzoic acid column at a nematic temperature of 256 ◦C, which represented the end of the nematic range, and gave the optimum peak resolution. Foreign direct investment (FDI) has been viewed as a power affecting economic growth (EG) directly and indirectly during the past few decades. This paper reviewed an amount of researches examining the relationships between FDI and EG, especially the effects of FDI on EG, from 1994 up to 2012. The results show that the main finding of the FDI-EG relation is significantly positive, but in some cases it is negative or even null. And within the relation, there exist several influencing factors such as the adequate levels of human capital, the well-developed financial markets, the complementarity between domestic and foreign investment and the open trade regimes, etc.
