Depositional Architecture and Stratigraphic Framework of Albian Succession in Balad and Nasiyia Oil Fields
...Show More Authors

The Albian Carbonate-clastic succession in the present study is represented by the Mauddud and Nahr Umr formations were deposited during the Albian stage within the Wasia Group More than 200 thin sections of cores and cuttings in addition to well logs data for Nahr Umr and Mauddud formations from 4 boreholes within two oil fields (Ba-4, Ba-8, Ns-2 and Ns-4) were used to interpret the different associations facies as well as the facies architectures to describe the sedimentary framework of the basin and development the petrophysical properties. Seven major microfacies were diagnosed in the carbonate succession of the Mauddud Formation, while the Nar Umr Formation includes five lithofacies; their grain types characteristic and depositional textures enabled to recognize of paleoenvironments. These microfacies were deposited in restricted, shallow open marine, back-reef, slope and deep open marine for the Mauddud succession. While in Nahr Umr, the lithofacies were deposited in bay fill, back-shore and distributary channel. The studied succession in Balad oil field which represents two 3rd order and four 4th order cycles (A1, A2, A3 and A4). These cycles are asymmetrical and starts with cycle A1 where the Backshore facies in Lower Mauddud Formation represents the transgressive systems tract and then appear the hightstand systems tract bounded below by a transgressive surface which coinside with the unconformable surface with the underlying Shuaiba Formation. In Nasyria oil field the studied succession represents two 3rd order cycles and three 3rd order cycles (A1, A2 and A4) with absence of A3 cycle. These cycles are asymmetrical and starts with cycle A1 where the distributary channel in the lower part of Nahr Umr succession represents the transgressive systems tract bounded below by unconformable surface with the underlying Shuaiba Formation. The highstand systems tract of cycle A1 is reflected by shallowing upward for distributary channel, bay fill and back-sore facies of the Nahr Umr Formation. This relatively thick parasequence reflect time of sea level stillstand where tectonic subsidence is the major controlling factor on producing the necessary accommodation for thick aggregational to progradation clastic succession to deposit.

Effect of nanoparticles on the interfacial tension of CO2-oil system at high pressure and temperature: An experimental approach
...Show More Authors

In the recent decade, injection of nanoparticles (NPs) into underground formation as liquid nanodispersions has been suggested as a smart alternative for conventional methods in tertiary oil recovery projects from mature oil reservoirs. Such reservoirs, however, are strong candidates for carbon geo-sequestration (CGS) projects, and the presence of nanoparticles (NPs) after nanofluid-flooding can add more complexity to carbon geo-storage projects. Despite studies investigating CO2 injection and nanofluid-flooding for EOR projects, no information was reported about the potential synergistic effects of CO2 and NPs on enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and CGS concerning the interfacial tension (γ) of CO2-oil system. This study thus extensively inves

Drilling Optimization by Using Advanced Drilling Techniques in Buzurgan Oil Field
...Show More Authors

Efficient and cost-effective drilling of directional wells necessitates the implementation of best drilling practices and advanced techniques to optimize drilling operations. Failure to adequately consider drilling risks can result in inefficient drilling operations and non-productive time (NPT). Although advanced drilling techniques may be expensive, they offer promising technical solutions for mitigating drilling risks. This paper aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of advanced drilling techniques in mitigating risks and improving drilling operations when compared to conventional drilling techniques. Specifically, the advanced drilling techniques employed in Buzurgan Oil Field, including vertical drilling with mud motor, managed pres

Analytical Model for Detection the Tilt in Originally Oil Water Contacts
...Show More Authors

Many carbonate reservoirs in the world show a tilted in originally oil-water contact (OOWC) which requires a special consideration in the selection of the capillary pressure curves and an understanding of reservoir fluids distribution while initializing the reservoir simulation models.
An analytical model for predicting the capillary pressure across the interface that separates two immiscible fluids was derived from reservoir pressure transient analysis. The model reflected the entire interaction between the reservoir-aquifer fluids and rock properties measured under downhole reservoir conditions.
This model retained the natural coupling of oil reservoirs with the aquifer zone and treated them as an explicit-region composite system

3D Geological Model for Zubair Reservoir in Abu-Amood Oil Field
...Show More Authors

The Zubair reservoir in the Abu-Amood field is considered a shaly sand reservoir in the south of Iraq. The geological model is created for identifying the facies, distributing the petrophysical properties and estimating the volume of hydrocarbon in place. When the data processing by Interactive Petrophysics (IP) software is completed and estimated the permeability reservoir by using the hydraulic unit method then, three main steps are applied to build the geological model, begins with creating a structural, facies and property models. five zones the reservoirs were divided (three reservoir units and two cap rocks) depending on the variation of petrophysical properties (porosity and permeability) that results from IP software interpr

Building a geological model is an essential and primary step for studying the reservoir’s hydrocarbon content and future performance. A three-dimensional geological model of the Asmari reservoir in Abu- Ghirab oil field including structure, stratigraphy, and reservoir petrophysical properties, has been constructed in the present work. As to underlying Formations, striking slip faults developed at the flank and interlayer normal. Abu Ghirab oilfields are located on the eastern anticlinal band, which has steadily plunged southward. 3D seismic interpretation results are utilized to build the fault model for 43 faults of the Asmari Formation in Abu Ghirab Oilfield. Development of a Multi-Completion Gas and Downhole Water Sink-Assisted Gravity Drainage (MC-DWS-AGD) to Improve Oil Recovery and Reduce Water Cut in Reservoirs with Strong Water Aquifers
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Gas and downhole water sink assisted gravity drainage (GDWS-AGD) is a promising gas-based enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process applicable for reservoirs associated with infinite aquifers. However, it can be costly to implement because it typically involves the drilling of multiple vertical gas-injection wells. The drilling and well-completion costs can be substantially reduced by using additional completions for gas injection in the oil production wells through the annulus positioned at the top of the reservoir. Multi-completion-GDWS-AGD (MC-GDWS-AGD) can be configured to include separate completions for gas injection, oil, and water production in individual wells. This study simulates
... Show More
