Traditional volumetric asphalt mix design methods do not directly evaluate cracking and rutting resistance, which may result in mixtures with inadequate field performance despite satisfying conventional volumetric requirements. Balanced Mix Design (BMD) has been introduced to address this limitation by incorporating performance testing. However, it remains unclear whether additive modification alone can recover mixtures that do not satisfy BMD criteria, or whether volumetric redesign (binder content optimization) is necessary. Therefore, this study investigated the effectiveness of additive modification before and after BMD redesign using IDEAL-CT and IDEAL-RT performance indices. Three additive systems were evaluated: SBS polymer, nano-silica, and hybrid modification. Performance threshold values for CT and RT Indices were established using a percentile-based statistical approach derived from an experimental database of 18 asphalt mixtures prepared with different aggregate gradations, filler types, and asphalt binder contents. The 25th percentile (P25) was adopted as the minimum performance criterion. The experimental program consisted of three evaluation cases. The first case investigated the ability of additives to recover initially performance-deficient mixtures before and after BMD redesign. Results showed that additive incorporation alone was insufficient to recover deficient mixtures and, in some cases, reduced cracking resistance due to excessive stiffness. However, after BMD redesign, the modified mixtures achieved balanced cracking and rutting performance above the adopted threshold values. The second case, based on a single initially compliant mixture, suggested that additives may be more effective when applied to mixtures that already satisfy performance requirements; however, this observation is preliminary and requires validation with a broader range of passing mixtures. The hybrid modification system provided the best overall balance. The third case isolated the effect of SBS polymer after BMD redesign using paired t-tests and Cohen’s d analysis. Statistical results confirmed a significant and very large positive effect of polymer modification on rutting resistance, whereas the effect on cracking resistance depended strongly on filler type. Overall, the findings indicate that additive modification cannot reliably compensate for deficient mixture design, while the combination of BMD redesign and additive modification can successfully achieve balanced performance. In addition, filler characteristics were found to play a critical role in controlling modifier effectiveness. These findings are based on a limited number of mixtures and additive combinations, and the proposed thresholds (CT ≥ 52, RT ≥ 44) should be validated using independent datasets before general application.
Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease with an autoimmune inflammatory pathogenesis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of angiogenesis in the pathogenesis of OLP, using CD34 stain to highlight the blood vessels for measuring the microvessel density (MVD) as well as to evaluate the relation of this marker with the degree of inflammation Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining technique was used to evaluate angiogenesis using CD34 in 46 paraffin blocks 10 of them obtained from normal mucosa and 36 from cases diagnosed as lichen planus , 20 of them diagnosed as Reticular type while 16 as erosive type. Severity of inflammation was divided into mild, moderate and severe accordi

A numerical model was created to simulate groundwater flow and analyze the water quality of the groundwater, by developing a conceptual model within the groundwater modeling system software. Nineteen wells were used, 15 for pumping and four for observation. A three-dimensional model was built based on the cross-sections indicating the geologic layers of the study area, which were composed of five layers. When a distance of 1,000 m between the wells was adopted, 135 wells can be operated simultaneously. These wells were hypothetically operated at 6, 12, and 18 h intervals, with a discharge of 200, 430, and 650 m
The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of diode laser (λ=940 nm) in the management of gingival hyperpigmentation compared to the conventional bur method. Materials and methods: Eighteen patients with gingival hyperpigmentation were selected for the study with an age between 12-37 years old. The site of treatment was the upper gingiva using diode laser for the right half and the conventional method for the left half. All patients were re-evaluated after the following intervals: 3 days, 7 days, 1 month and 6 months post-operation. Pain and functions were re-evaluated in each visit for a period of 1 day, 3 days and 1 week post-operation. Laser parameters included 1.5 W in continuous mode with an initiated tip (400 μm) placed in

Two 10 and 40 PPI porous material samples are examined. Three-dimensional models are built to simulate the performance of SCSAC: model (I) with clear air passage; model (II) with only metal foam obstacles, and model (III) with metal foam obstacles as well as porous Y-fins. COMSOL Multiphysics software version 6.2 based on finite element methodology is employed. The main challenge was that the State Board use traditional evaluation in measuring employee performance, activities, and projects. Case study and field interviews methodology has been adopted in this research with a sample consisting of the Chairman of the State Board, 6 General Managers, and 7 Department Managers who are involved in evaluating the strategic performance and deciding the suitable answers on the checklists to analyze it according to the 7-points Likert scale. In this study, an efficient compression system is suggested; it depends on using transform coding (Discrete Cosine Transform or bi-orthogonal (tap-9/7) wavelet transform) and LZW compression technique. The suggested scheme was applied to color and gray models then the transform coding is applied to decompose each color and gray sub-band individually. The quantization process is performed followed by LZW coding to compress the images. The suggested system was applied on a set of seven stand
