The environmental planning vision for development of human settlements in marshes by using GIS techniques

Abstract<p>Marshlands environment in southern Iraq is unique and is considered a habitat of thousands of migratory birds as shelter and a source of livelihood for thousands of people living there. Its environment is characterized by a fragile ecosystem that requires great care and effort to achieve the greatest possible balance and parallelism of development, which necessarily require careful environmental planning that accurately regulates the resources of the environment and therefore, planned the best way to use them. The idea of research for creating the spatial organization of the development of the human settlements and taking into account the environmental aspect by thinking for the planning of development, creating environmental vision for the present and a future that will contribute to organization of human settlements and sustainable spatial development. For achieving that, the research uses Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as techniques for analyzing and choosing the appropriate zones for development and environmental planning. The research concluded to suggest the environmental sensitivity zones, and the appropriate projects that can be established in these zones as well as evaluated with EIA approaches, and the most important recommendation is the need to commitment by the environmental sensitivity zones map for appropriate development.</p>

ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER QUALITY USING WATER QUALITY INDEXIN, AL-HAWIJA AREA, NORTHERN IRAQ

The quality of groundwater in the Al-Hawija area was assessed using a water quality index. Data of nine physico-chemical parameters of 28 groundwater wells were used to calculate the water quality index (WQI). A heterogeneous water quality was reported, where in close proximity to the Lesser Zab River (LZR), it has low WQI values and permissible for human consumptions due to the dilution processes by fresh water; whereas, it becomes deteriorated in areas located far away the river. The values of WQI ranges from 22 to 336, indicating a good to very poor groundwater quality.

Synthesis of gold nanoparticles using ceftriaxone sodium as a reducing and stabilizing agent

The synthesis of gold nanoparticles AuNPs was achievedby the reduction of sodium tetrachloroaurate (III) (NaAuCl4) with ceftriaxone sodium (CR) in aqueous solutionswithout the use of other reducing agent. The effect of reactants concentration, temperature and pH on the sizes and morphology of AuNPs were also studied. The synthesized AuNPs were characterized by UV- visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and atomic force microscope (AFM) analysis. Conjugation of antibiotic with the nanoparticles was characterized by FTIR spectrophotometry.

Subsurface Imaging of 2D Seismic Data Using Kirchhoff Time Migration Method, Central Iraq

Kirchhoff Time Migration method was applied in pre-and post-Stack Time Migration for post-processing of images collected from Balad-Samarra (BS-92) survey line that is sited across Ajeel anticline oilfield. The results showed that Ajeel anticline structure was relocated at the correct position in the migrated stacked section. The two methods (Pre and Post) of migration processing showed enhanced subsurface images and increased horizontal resolution, which was clear after the broadening the syncline and narrowing or compressing the anticline. Performance Augmenting of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine using Adaptable Convergent Ducting System

Basically, the duct technique is utilized to provide the desired wind velocity facing the turbine.
