The presence of the most important steroidal sapogenin “Tigogenin” in the leaves of Agave americana  cultivated in Iraq was detected. The absence of any study concerning the Tigogenin content of this medicinal plant in Iraq, and the industrial importance of Tigogenin depending on its role as a precursor in the synthesis of some steroidal drugs, acquired this study its value. Al-Salhubia, area is located within the arid region in southern Iraq. Although no surface water is available in this area, the groundwater is considered the basis in the area, it is available in both good quality and quantity. For that reason, it is of prime importance to examine water type in the unconfined aquifer to determine suitability of groundwater for irrigation purposes. The groundwater type in the studied area is Ca-Mg dominant SO4 facies according to Piper and Stiff diagrams. Based on SAR, Na%, RSC, EC, and PI, the groundwater quality in the study area is suitable for irrigation in general.

There is a scarcity of data regarding algal flora of Tigris River in the territory of Baghdad. The present study deals with Tigris River in Al-Dora site in Baghdad province from November 2014 to June 2015 in order to shed light on its epiphytic Algae on (Phragmites australis) and epipelic algae. An amount of 183 and 154 species of epiphytic and epipelic algae are identified respectfully. The Bacillariophyceae (diatoms) are the dominant algal group followed by Cyanophyceae and Chlorophyceae. Moreover, 90 species are shared between two groups of algae (epiphytic and epipelic) and identified at the study site. The study area forms a part of the Zagros Folded Zone which is situated in the unstable shelf of Iraq within the physiographic zone called Foothill Zone (in the middle of Hemrin- Makhul subzone). The north eastern limb of the anticline reaches to 50áµ’ and the dip of the  south western limb reaches to 70áµ’.
