Application of Hydrophilic Lipophilic Difference Theory for Fenofibrate Formulation as a Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery System
...Show More Authors

Improved oral bioavailability of lipophilic substances can be achieved using self-emulsifying drug delivery systems. However, because the properties of self-emulsifying are greatly influenced by surfactant amount and type, type of oil used, droplet size, charge, cosolvents, and physiological variables, the synthesis of self-emulsifying is highly complex; consequently, only a small number of excipient self-emulsifying formulations has been developed so far for clinical use. This study reports a highly effective procedure for developing self-emulsifying formulations using a novel approach based on the hydrophilic-lipophilic difference theory. Microemulsion characteristics, such as the constituents and amounts of oil and surfactant electrolyte concentration and temperature, were optimized to produce high-quality self-emulsifying drug delivery systems. Furthermore, in vitro lipolysis and in vivo bioavailability studies of fenofibrate, a highly lipophilic oral drug, loaded self-emulsifying dosage form were conducted. The self-emulsifying drug delivery system used in this study comprised soybean oil, water with a specific salinity, sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate as a surfactant, and orlistat as a lipase inhibitor. The hydrophilic-lipophilic difference-based approach involved fewer experiments and allowed for the development of an efficient self-emulsifying dosage form with a relatively low surfactant concentration when compared to previous works. The salinity and equivalent alkane carbon number were optimized, with the proper selection of the type and amount of surfactant, to obtain a bicontinuous microemulsion (Winsor type III) that can be fully diluted with water. In vitro lipolysis was investigated in fasting and feeding settings, which showed a significant dosage form digestion by lipase enzyme; orlistat was successfully used to overcome dosage digestion and drug precipitation problem. In vivo experiments in rats involved oral gavage with a self-emulsifying dosage form containing fenofibrate (20 mg/kg). The pharmacokinetic profile of fenofibric acid showed remarkable enhancement in the bioavailability (F-95%). These findings demonstrate that the hydrophilic-lipophilic difference approach is a practical, scalable, and easy technique for self-emulsifying drug delivery system formulation development. Design of a Fractional Order Sliding Mode Controller for Twin Rotor Aerodynamic System
...Show More Authors

This paper proposes a new structure for a Fractional Order Sliding Mode Controller (FOSMC) to control a Twin Rotor Aerodynamic System (TRAS). The new structure is composed by defining two 3-dimensional sliding mode surfaces for the TRAS model and introducing fractional order derivative integral in the state variables as well as in the control action. The parameters of the controller are determined so as to minimize the Integral of Time multiplied by Absolute Error (ITAE) performance index. Through comparison, this controller outperforms its integer counterpart in many specifications, such as reducing the delay time, rise time, percentage overshoot, settling time, time to reach the sliding surface, and amplitude of chattering in control inpu

Using Solid Waste as A Substitute for Raw Materials in Construction: A Review.
...Show More Authors

The main challenge is to protect the environment from future deterioration due to pollution and the lack of natural resources. Therefore, one of the most important things to pay attention to and get rid of its negative impact is solid waste. Solid waste is a double-edged sword according to the way it is dealt with, as neglecting it causes a serious environmental risk from water, air and soil pollution, while dealing with it in the right way makes it an important resource in preserving the environment. Accordingly, the proper management of solid waste and its reuse or recycling is the most important factor. Therefore, attention has been drawn to the use of solid waste in different ways, and the most common way is to use it as an alternative

Higuchi fractal dimension of the electroencephalogram as a biomarker for early detection of Alzheimer's disease
...Show More Authors

It is widely accepted that early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) makes it possible for patients to gain access to appropriate health care services and would facilitate the development of new therapies. AD starts many years before its clinical manifestations and a biomarker that provides a measure of changes in the brain in this period would be useful for early diagnosis of AD. Given the rapid increase in the number of older people suffering from AD, there is a need for an accurate, low-cost and easy to use biomarkers that could be used to detect AD in its early stages. Potentially, the electroencephalogram (EEG) can play a vital role in this but at present, no reliable EEG biomarker exists for early diagnosis of AD. The gradual s

Modified LASS Method Suggestion as an additional Penalty on Principal Components Estimation – with Application-

This research deals with a shrinking method concernes with the principal components similar to that one which used in the multiple regression “Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection: LASS”. The goal here is to make an uncorrelated linear combinations from only a subset of explanatory variables that may have a multicollinearity problem instead taking the whole number say, (K) of them. This shrinkage will force some coefficients to equal zero, after making some restriction on them by some "tuning parameter" say, (t) which balances the bias and variance amount from side, and doesn't exceed the acceptable percent explained variance of these components. This had been shown by MSE criterion in the regression case and the percent explained v

HE SIGNIFICANCE OF FREUD’S THEORY THE UNCANNY IN NELLA LARSON’S PASSING: A PSYCHOANALYTIC STUDY
...Show More Authors

ABSTRACT This study closely investigates the elements of Sigmund Freud’s theory “The Uncanny” in one of Larson’s most famous novels. Although the novel touches upon racial issues, the study explores the mysterious relationship between Irene and Clare based on the main features of Freud’s “The Uncanny,” which are represented by hidden sexual desire, envy, supernatural power, and double characters. The aspect of the sexual desire is indicated in the novel by sexual undertones expressed by Irene towards Clare’s physical features. Envy in the novel is expressed by Irene who shows resentful longing aroused by Clare’s possessions and qualities due to her passing to the white community. The aspect of omnipotence of thoughts is in

Nanocrystal Technology as a Tool for Improving Dissolution of Poorly Soluble Drugs
...Show More Authors

Many approaches have been developed over time to counter the bioavailability limitations of poorly soluble drugs. With advances in nanotechnology in recent decades, this issue has been approached through the formulation of drugs as nanocrystals. Nanocrystals consist of pure drug(s) and a minimum of surface active agent(s) required for stabilization. They are carrier-free submicron colloidal drug delivery systems with a mean particle size typically in the range of 200 - 500 nm. By reducing particle size to nanoscale, the surface area available for dissolution is increased, and thus bioavailability is enhanced. Drug nanocrystals constitute a versatile formulation approach to enhance the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of poorly
