Relation of red cell width diameter with some electrophysiological parameters of symptomatic sinus node patients in Iraq(Article)
...Show More Authors

Background: Dysfunction of sinoatrial node is a set of abnormal rhythms which are resulted from the sinoatrial node malfunctionof the sinus node, the chief natural cardiac pacemaker. The common, and occasionally, the single method for treatment of heart arrhythmias wasimplantation of pacemaker, which reduce symptoms exactly occurs after implantation. Aim: To detect the association between red cell width diameter (RDW) and some cardiac electrophysiology parameters in sinus node dysfunction in Iraqi patients such as SNRT and AH. Methods: A cross sectional study, was conducted on 59 patient ranging between 20-50 years old and involving 35 female and 24 male patients, suffering from an unexplained symptoms of sinoatrial node dysfunction (SND). The enrolled participants were gathered from patients who visited the arrhythmia consultant clinic in the Najaf center for cardiac surgery and interventional catheterization at Al-Sadr Medical City in Najaf from all parts of Iraq. The duration of study extended from the beginning of July 2018 till the ending of July 2019. The patients were selected and investigated according to inclusion criteria and either referred to electrophysiological study. Results: The basic procedure of the study was measurement of cardiac electrophysiological parameters such as SNRT and AH as well as other noninvasive investigations such as PR. Depending on sinus node recovery time (SNRT) measurement for all patients, new cutoff point (1150 milliseconds) for pacemaker implantation was detected. Statistically significant correlations were found between new SNRT cutoff of study and most of electrophysiological, anthropometric, demographic that achieved in current study (P-value< 0.05). Conclusion: RDW has a significant effecton PR, SNRT, and AH parameters of patients with unexplained symptomatic SND in Iraq. © 2020 Lahore Medical And Dental College. All rights reserved.

Background: Bell's palsy was defined as facial weakness of lower motor neuron type caused by idiopathic facial nerve involvement outside the central nervous system without evidence of aural or more widespread neurologic disease. The cause is unclear, but the disorder occurs more commonly in diabetics. Objectives: to differentiate cases of idiopathic Bell's palsy from diabetic mononeuropathy presented with Facial nerve palsy by assessing the taste, because they differ in etiology, management & prognosis.Patients &Methods: One hundred and fifteen consecutive patients were referred for the treatment of facial palsy, from May the 5th 2012 to April 12th 2013 in Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital and The Neurosciences Hospital, in Baghdad / Ira

MEASUREMENT OF ASBESTOS FIBERS CONCENTRATIONS IN SOME DENSE AREAS IN BAGHDAD, IRAQ, IN WINTER 2020
...Show More Authors

Asbestos is a hazard pollutant to human health, exposure to asbestos cause serious health effects and wide range of asbestos-related diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma and it has been classified as carcinogen by the World Health Organization WHO which cause a carcinogenic effects. Fibers of asbestos are mainly released from friction product in brakes and clutch linings and from reinforce agent in the asbestos cement industry. The aim of this was to evaluate the levels of asbestos fibers in surroundings air of some dense traffic points in Baghdad, through winter 2020. Materials and Methods: Samples of airs was carried out by directing air flow to a mixed cellulose ester membrane filter mounted on an open face

Analysis of Climate Parameters as Indicators of Climate Changes in Central and Eastern Iraq: Khanaqin Climate Conditions as A Case Study
...Show More Authors

The climate parameters of rainfall, and average of maximum and minimum temperature were investigated for the period of 2000-2019 in three stations in central and eastern Iraq (Baghdad, Diyala, and Kut provinces). Evidence of climate change was noticed from the results, reflected by decreased mean values of annual rainfall with increased mean of maximum and minimum temperature. In addition, the water balance and the climatic conditions were determined for Khanaqin station for the years 1981-2019. The analysis of Khanaqin climate parameters demonstrated total annual mean values of rainfall of 260.86mm and evaporation of 3119.59mm. The mean monthly relative humidity was 46.65%, sunshine was 8.39h/day, temperature was 23.36C

Relationship Between Osteopontin Biochemical Parameters and BMD Status in Iraqi Postmenopausal Women with Osteoporosis
...Show More Authors

Osteopontin hormone (OPN) is an extracellular matrix protein that is expressed in bone cells such as osteoblasts and osteoclasts and associated with bone turnover and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

The aim of the study is to investigate serum levels of circulating OPN and its relationship with biochemical parameters and BMD in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis in Iraq. Serum samples from fifty postmenopausal women were selected from patients attending two educational hospitals in Baghdad, which are AL Wasity Educational Hospital and Baghdad Educational Hospital, during the period from November 2018 to March 2019. Twenty five postmenopausal healthy women were inc

The Relationship between Reproductive Hormones and Metabolic Parameters in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
...Show More Authors

Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition associated with chronic anovulation, and androgen excess. Clinically, PCOS women usually presents with menstrual irregularities, infertility, and hirsutism. Women with this syndrome are at increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MS).
Patients and Methods:
This study was conducted during the period from March 2013 until the end of September 2013. A total of 50 PCOS women were studied   (25 PCOS women with MS and 25 PCOS women without MS) with an age ranged from (35-45) years. Women with PCOS were referred to Medical City Hospital in Baghdad and compared with 25 healthy women as control group. Serum luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle

Association of Microrna-153-3p Expression in Response to Treatment with Imatinib in Patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
...Show More Authors

The study aimed to establish the association of miR-153-3p expression with treatment response to IM in CML patients. Sixty CML patients were included and divided into two groups consistent with their response to treatment whether sensitive or resistant to IM. Ten healthy normal participants were enrolled as control group. RNA was extracted from serum to work out miR-153-3p expression utilizing real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The primers were supplied by Macrogen Inc. Twenty seven patients were sensitive to imatinib and 33 were resistant to imatinib. The ratio of male to female was 1.14:1. The bulk (58%) of patients were within the age range of 41-60 years. Weight and gender did not significantly diffe

Evaluation of Interlukein-6 and Vitamin D in Patients with COVID-19
...Show More Authors

COVID-19 is a unique viral infectious illness that causes a variety of symptoms and health hazards, particularly to the respiratory system and has been declared a worldwide pandemic. The disease is characterized by a cytokine release in severe conditions. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a proinflammatory cytokine, mediates an important immunomodulatory process. Also, vitamin D was identified to have a role in the innate immunity of individuals. Our study was designed to find the role of IL-6 and vitamin D in COVID-19 patients, as well as, to see whether there is a link between vitamin D deficiency and cytokine syndrome development. The study included 90 COVID-19 patients and 30 control people from Baghdad, Iraq. The age of the participants was non-s
