The Effects of Vitamin D on L-arginine-induced Acute Pancreatitis in Rats
...Show More Authors

This study was aimed to investigate the protective effect of vitamin D on L-arginine induced acute pancreatitis in rats. Twenty eight white Albino rats of both sexes were divided into 4 equal groups. Negative control rats (group I) intra-peritoneally injected with normal saline, positive control (group II) rats induced acute pancreatitis with L- arginine, group III rats treated with a single dose of vitamin D, and group IV treated with single dose of vitamin D prior to first dose of L- arginine. Serum amylase, lipase and cytokines such as tumour necrosis factor –alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL1β); in addition, my eloperoxidase (MPO) enzyme activity in the pancreas were measured. In acute pancreatitis group (group II), there was a significant elevation in all of previously-mentioned parameters compared to negative controls. Administration of vitamin D before first dose of arginine (group IV) produced a significant reduction in serum -amylase and -lipase as well as TNF-α and IL1β and MPO activity in pancreatic tissue compared to acute pancreatitis group (group II). In conclusion, the findings obtained from this study demonstrate the amelioration of pancreatic injury by vitamin D which may suggest the anti-inflammatory property of the intended vitamin and can be utilized in prevention of acute pancreatitis.

A Study On The Effects Of Risk Factors On The Pathology And The Development Of Breast Cancer In Iraqi Women
...Show More Authors

Breast cancer is one of the most important malignant diseases all over the world. The incidence of breast cancer is increasing around the world and it is still the leading cause of cancer mortality An Approximately 1.3 million new cases were diagnosed worldwide last year. With areas rising increasing, risk factors for breast cancer including obesity, early menarche, alcohol and smoking, environmental contamination and reduced or late birth rates become more prevalent. In Iraq, breast cancer ranks first among types of cancers diagnosed in women. This study was conducted on one hundred twenty women with breast cancer that was evaluated and investigated for the possible role of the risk factors on the development of breast cancer in females. Background: Wounds are any disruption to the normal anatomic structure of tissue which leads to the loss of epithelial continuity with or without a loss of underlying connective tissue, as well as the anatomic and functional integrity of the living tissue . Wound healing is a complex process with overlapping phases haemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and maturation/matrix Remodeling. Each phase of wound healing requires different management strategies, and inappropriate treatment can delay wound healing. The aim of wound treatment is a rapid wound closure and re-establish tissue function, chia seeds oil are widely used herbal medicines because of their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacity as they considerd agood source of polyunsa

Effect of cold atmospheric plasma on the wound of diabetic rats by FE-DBD system
...Show More Authors

This study explains the effect of non-thermal (cold) plasma on wound of diabetic rats by (FE-DBD) system, 3cm probe diameter is used. The output power was ranged from (12-20) W. The effect of non-thermal plasma on wounds of a diabetic was observed with different exposure durations (20,30) sec., the plasma exposure duration decreases the sugar level in blood and the diameter of the wound. These results indicate the cold plasma can be used to enhance the insulin level (i.e., blood sugar) and wounds treatment.

The effects of different concentrations of Alum solutions on Mutans streptococci (in vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: Alum has been used as a treatment medication in cases of oral and gingival ulcers, and also as antiseptic mouthwash. This study aimed to examine the effects of different concentrations of Alum on inhibition zone, viability counts and adherence ability of Mutans streptococci compared with deionized water and chlorhexidine gluconate in vitro. Materials and methods: The study dealt with an in vitro study to establish a concentration of Alum mouthrinse that would have the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bacteriocidal concentration. The second part evaluated the anti-adherence ability of the experimental agents. Results: This study found that the antibacterial effect of Alum increases with its concentration from 50 to 1

Hepatoprotective effect of (Arachis hypogeaL.) peanut skin extracts on CCl4 induced liver damage in mice
...Show More Authors

This study was carried out to evaluate the hepato-protective property of (Arachis hypogea L.) peanut skin extracts in CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in mice. The antioxidant activity was measured utilizing 2, 2-diphenyl-1-1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity. The results showed that the methanolic extract was the highest free radical scavenging activity than the aqueous extract with values (92.34 ± 0.45 and 87.62 ± 0.44) respectively in 12 mg/mL compared to 89.61 ± 0.34 for Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and 93.25 ± 0.06 for vitamin C, which means that the methanolic extract of peanut skin is superior to BHT. Furthermore, the total phenolic content was analyzed by using Folin-Ciocalteu method, the amount of total phenol in a

Vitamin E Level In Friedreich’s Ataxic Phenotype Patients In Four Major Hospitals In Baghdad
...Show More Authors

Background: Friedreich ataxia (FRDA) is the most common form of inherited ataxia, comprising one-half of all hereditary ataxias with a carrier rate between 1 in 60 to 1 in 90 and with a disease prevalence of 1 per 29,000. It can occur in two forms the classic form or in association with a vitamin E dependent ataxia. The precise role of Vitamin E in the nervous system is unknown; An Oxidative attack is suspected to play a role in Ataxia with Vitamin E deficiency, as well as in Friedreich ataxia. Vitamin E is the major free-radical-trapping antioxidant.

Objective: Theobjectives of the study is to asses vitamin E level in patients with Friedreichs ataxia phenotype in Iraqi patients.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of magnetized water on accumulated infiltration depth. A test rig was designed and constructed for this purpose was installed at the water tests laboratory of the Department of Water Resources Engineering at the University of  aghdad. The investigation was carried out by using two types of soil, different flow velocities throughout magnetizing device and different configuration of magnets over and under the water passage of the magnetizing device. The soils that were used in the experiments are clayey and sandy soils.  Six different flow velocities throughout magnetizing device ranged between 0.29 to 1.19 cm/s and ten configurations of arranging the magnets over and under th
