New twin compounds having four-, five-, and seven- membered heterocyclic rings were synthesized via Schiff bases (1a,b) which were obtained by the condensation of o-tolidine with two moles of 4- N,N-dimethyl benzaldehyde or 4- chloro benzaldehyde. The reaction of these Schiff bases with two moles of phenyl isothiocyanate, phenyl isocyanate or naphthyl isocyanate as in scheme(1) led to the formation of bis -1,3- diazetidin- 2- thion and bis -1,3- diazetidin -2-one derivatives (2-4 a,b). While in scheme (2) bis imidazolidin-4-one (5a,b) ,bistetrazole (6a,b) and bis thiazolidin-4-one (7a,b) derivatives were produced by reacting the mentioned Schiff bases(1a,b)with two moles of glycine, sodium azide or thioglycolic acid, respectively. The new bis -1,3-oxazepine derivatives (8-12a,b) in scheme(3) were synthesized from various anhydrides and the same Schiff bases(1a,b). All the synthesized compounds have been characterized by melting points , elemental analysis, FTIR and 1HMNR (of some of theme) spectroscopy. The synthesized compounds have been screened for their antibacterial activities. They exhibited good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (G-) and Staphylococus aureus (G+) .
In the current work, aromatic amines and alkyl halides have been converted to the corresponding azides 2a‒d and 4a-d by the reaction with sodium nitrite and sodium azide respectively for amines and sodium azide for halides. These included 1,3,4-thiadiazole, thiazolidin-4-one (via an alternative method), 1,2,4-triazole, carbothioamide, thiazole-4-one, azetidin-2-one, and oxazole. The synthesis procedure entailed a sequence of reactions. The thiazolidine-4-one 1 was obtained by reaction p-aminobenzoic acid with thiosemicarbazide, followed by treatment with p-tolualdehyde to produce Schiff base 2. Reaction Schiff base 2 with mercaptoacetic acid in dry benzene was carried out to produce thiazolidine-4-one 3. In another synthesis pathway, the esterification of p-nitro benzoic acid with ethanol in the presence of sulfuric acid was

In the first step, o-aminothiophenol was reacted with p-aminobenzoic acid in hydrochloric acid to produce an amine containing a thiazole ring, achieving a product yield of 80%. The second step involves synthesizing Schiff bases (E1-E4) by reacting 4-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)aniline with various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of glacial acetic acid. This reaction yields products of 76% to 90%. In the third step, the Schiff derivatives (E1-E4) are reacted with glycolic acid and thioglycolic acid to obtain the desired products. Oxazolidinone derivatives (N1-T1) were produced with rates ranging from 66% to 74%, while thiazolidin
