Street networks are crucial in shaping the quality of urban life. Through their impact on mobility and social interaction, they play a critical role in shaping how people move around the city and determine the connectivity, accessibility, safety, and convenience of different areas. Thus, it is essential to develop a systematic understanding of street networks to create livable, sustainable, accessible, and equitable cities. The aim of this study is to analyze and develop the role of street networks in shaping urban mobility, connectivity, and accessibility, and thereby enhance sustainable urban living by creating people-centric cities. Quantitative techniques and measures are employed to examine urban structure metrics to understand both physical and spatial characteristics at micro and macro scales. Three primary parameters for the configuration of street patterns - grid pattern ratio (GPR), pedestrian route directness factor (PRD/PRF), and ped-shed (PS) and effective walking area (EWA) - are selected to compute the formational attributes of selected streets in Baghdad, Iraq. The evaluation employs different arithmetic methods linked with a Geographical Information System (GIS) to quantify and compare two examined areas, and the results reveal a contradiction in the spatial configuration of the sample street patterns. From these findings, the paper offers specific recommendations and urban design guidelines to improve the quality of similar urban areas. The paper concludes that in-depth knowledge of a street’s role in its urban context helps to optimize spatial configuration processes in the built environment.
Research objective to identify the degree of environmental sustainability values of the student-teacher in the College of Education for Pure Sciences. In this research the methodology of relational descriptive research was adopted, and the research sample consisted of (116) students from the College of Education for Pure Sciences / Ibn Al-Haytham / University of Baghdad From the Department of Chemistry (fourth stage), that is, 54% of the research community were randomly selected. The research tool was prepared, represented by a measure of environmental sustainability values of (20) items, the results of the research showed: The poor degree of environmental sustainability values. The Statistical Portfolio of Social Sciences (SPSS) was adopte

Show MoreGypseous soil is considered as a problematic soil for embankment construction, however, implementation of emulsified asphalt as a stabilization agent could be a proper solution for enhancing its properties as a subgrade soil. In this work, the sustainability of asphalt stabilized soil has been assessed in terms of its resistance to cyclic (freezing-thawing) and (heating-cooling) processes. Specimens have been prepared at optimum fluid content (moisture and emulsion) and tested under direct shear stresses while subjected to 30 cycles of (freezing-thawing) and (heating-cooling). Both of dry and soaked testing conditions have been implemented. Data have been observed after each 10 cycles, and compared with that of reference mix. It was conclud
... Show MoreFuture generations of wireless networks are expected to heavily rely on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). UAV networks have extraordinary features like high mobility, frequent topology change, tolerance to link failure, and extending the coverage area by adding external UAVs. UAV network provides several advantages for civilian, commercial, search and rescue applications. A realistic mobility model must be used to assess the dependability and effectiveness of UAV protocols and algorithms. In this research paper, the performance of the Gauss Markov (GM) and Random Waypoint (RWP) mobility models in multi-UAV networks for a search and rescue scenario is analyzed and evaluated. Additionally, the two mobility models GM and RWP are descr

Show MoreObjective: This study aims to examine how implementing Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) enhances the efficiency and quality of environmental audits and sustainability reporting in eco-friendly universities. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the study emphasizes promoting transparency and precision in sustainability reporting to encourage responsible management of resources within academic institutions. Theoretical Framework: The importance of our study is evident in the importance of accurate and transparent reports in the development of environmental performance with theories of sustainable reporting and environmental auditing. One of the most important digital

The research aims to employ palm trees waste in designing belts suitable for contemporary women's fashion trends. Both descriptive and applied research approaches were used. Therefore, a collection of belts was designed and implemented. Then, a questionnaire was used to assess the extent to which the implemented belts achieved in sustainability standards using Likert scale. The sample size was 60 women. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program to calculate the arithmetic mean and standard deviation. One of the significant results of the research is the high average scores of the criteria for achieving sustainab

The classification will be conducted on Landsat OLI images and Landsat OLI/Sentinel 1 SAR data. Consequently, developing a new spectral index by analyzing the relative importance of Landsat bands will be calculated by the random forest. The new spectral index has improved depending on the most three important bands, then two additional indices including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and standardized difference built-up index (NDBI) have been used to extract paddy rice fields from the data. Several experiments being

Show MoreThe article includes the concept of aesthetics through what has been dealt with in the literature by philosophers and researchers who have addressed this concept in an attempt to derive indicators of aesthetics. The article adopted a descriptive and analytical methodology by reviewing recent literature on the concept of aesthetics and its relation to urban planning and design issues. Many subjective and objective aesthetics indicators have been identified, some of which are classified under real aesthetics, and some under fake aesthetics. The indicators were applied to the Kufa Mosque complex and Sahla Mosque complex as a comparative case study. It was found that the indicators of real aesthetics have a higher weight in determining

It further allows all its residents to enjoy the opportunities to live in a safe urban life. Based on the that, the limitations of the research and its field of interest related to the relationship between gender and urban studies have become clear. The insufficient knowledge in this regard considers gender as a concept that does not exist in itself, but rather overlaps and intersects with several concepts and studies, including urban studies. Thus, it has become necessary to adopt a descriptive methodology that helps reach a theoretical framework to explain the beginnings of such an interaction and inte
