The association of FKBP5 polymorphism with asthma susceptibility in asthmatic patients
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Objectives

Inhaled corticosteroids are the most effective controllers of asthma, although asthmatics vary in their response. FKBP51 is a major component of the glucocorticoid receptor which regulates its responses to corticosteroids. Therefore, the present study aims to identify the role of FKBP5 gene polymorphism in asthma susceptibility and corticosteroid resistance.

Methods

DNA was extracted from the blood of 68 asthmatic and 40 control subjects. FKBP5 gene fragments were amplified by PCR and sequenced by the Sanger method. The sequencing results were aligned by mapping on the reference sequences of National center of Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) which were checked. Finally, the genotype, allele frequency and odds ratio (OR) were calculated.

Results

The FKBP5 fragment sequencing revealed the presence of rs1360780 and one novel SNP found in 17 samples taken from asthmatic patients as compared to db SNP data in the NCBI database. The FKBP5 variant (rs1360780) indicated that the allele frequency of risk allele T was 41.18% in patients and 20% in control group members p<0.001 and OR=2.8 when compared to a wild C allele frequency of 58.82% in patients and 64% in the control group members. The novel SNP FKBP5 was compared to the SNP database in the NCBI database in which wild T allele was substituted with G. The novel SNP was submitted to the ClinVar Submission Portal at NCBI with accession number: rs1581842283 and confirmed an asthma susceptibility risk factor with allele G frequency of 11.76% in asthmatics and 2.5% in the control group members (OR=5.2, p<0.05), as compared to a wild T allele frequency of 88.24% in asthmatics and 97.5% in the control group members.

Conclusions

The risk allele T of rs1360780 and the novel SNP rs1581842283 risk allele G predict asthma susceptibility but show no association with corticosteroid resistant.

Resveratrol treatment alters lung microbiome in the murine ovalbumin-induced asthma model by increasing mucus-degrading Akkermansia muciniphila.
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that involves the narrowing of the lung airways and excessive mucus production. Resveratrol (RES), a polyphenolic stilbene, is known to control asthmatic attacks via different molecular mechanisms. However, no studies have examined the effect of resveratrol on the microbiome in the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma mouse model. In this study, we induced asthma in BALB/c mice by injecting OVA followed by 7 days treatment with RES. Plethysmography showed that the expiratory resistance in the lung tissue was significantly reduced in the RES treated group, while mean volume, peak expiratory flow, and frequency of respiration was increased. Evaluating the Moisture Susceptibility of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Aluminum Dross as a Filler
...Show More Authors

One of the most essential components of asphalt pavements is the filler. It serves two purposes. First, this fine-grained material (diameter less than 0.075 mm) improves the cohesiveness of aggregate with bitumen. Second, produce a dense mixture by filling the voids between the particles. Aluminum dross (AD), which is a by-product of aluminum re-melting, is formed all over the world. This material causes damage to humans and the environment; stockpiling AD in landfills is not the best solution. This research studies the possibility of replacing part of the conventional filler with aluminum dross. Three percent of dross was used, 10, 20, and 30% by filler weight. The MarshallMix design method was adopted to obtain the op

Background: Significant numbers of patients with spinal tuberculosis (TB), especially in developing countries, still present late after disease onset with severe neurological deficits.

Objective:This study was conducted to assess the outcome of surgery in patients with tuberculosis of the spine with motor deficits.

Type of the study: Retrospective study.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data obtained in all the patients with severe motor deficits due to spinal TB admitted to and surgically treated in four hospitals in Baghdad/Iraq during the period from January 2012 to January 2014. History, examination, imaging, histological, postoperative, a

Association between maternal vitamin D, calcium, and inflammatory cytokines in Iraqi pregnant women with placental calcification
...Show More Authors

Placental calcification is an aging process that is increasingly linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes when it occurs prematurely. Vitamin D has immunomodulatory properties and may play a role in placental calcification. This study explored the association between maternal vitamin D, inflammatory cytokines, and placental calcification. A total of 46 pregnant women aged 16–40 years were included in this study. They were divided into four groups: Group 1 (control group; n = 10, without placental calcification), Group 2 (n = 12, Grade 1 placental calcification), Group 3 (n = 12, Grade 2 placental calcification), and Group 4 (n = 12, Grade 3 placental calcification). Serum vitamin D (25(OH)D) and cytokine (TNF-α,

ASSOCIATION BETWEEN CAFFEINE, ANXIETY AND THE OCCURRENCE OF APHTHOUS STOMATITIS IN THE ARMENIAN ETHNICITY
...Show More Authors

Abstract Introduction: Aphthous stomatitis is a recurring oral ulceration condition that affects a significant proportion of the population. While several factors have been proposed to contribute to its occurrence, the link between caffeine consumption, anxiety levels, and the development of aphthous stomatitis remains unknown. This survey-based study aimed to understand the association between coffee, anxiety, and the development of aphthous stomatitis in this specific demographic, which can provide useful insights for medical management as well as preventive strategies. Material and methods: A structured online questionnaire was distributed via various social media platforms targeting a sample of the Armenian population. The quest

The organizational structure of relations between states is among the main features that distinguished the twentieth century as the era of international organization, especially after the increase in the number of political units after World War II in which regionalism was crystallized as a phenomenon. It is not modern, as there are many blocs such as the European Union that have developed in it, the idea of regional bloc is prominent, especially in Europe, as it emerged after a controversy revolved around what was called globalism in the face of Globalism vs. Regionalism. DETECTION OF sHLA-G PROTEINS IN THE SERA OF PATIENTS INFECTED WITH VISCERAL LEISHMANIASIS

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) or kala-azar is one of the worlds most neglected tropical diseases in mortality and fourth in morbidity, rK39 dipstick was used to diagnose the suspected infected patients as cheapest simple technique which can differentiate recent from chronic infection, for disease out-coming, naïve T-lymphocyte cells should be differentiated into pathogen-specific immunity responses, such as T-helper 1(Th-1) or (Th-2). HLA-G is a special protein defined as nonclassical HLA class I molecule can suppress the immune system through prevention of T-cell function by foul all T-cell mechanisms. So, this study aimed to detect and evaluate the level of sHLA-G in the sera of patients infected with VL. The results showed that there was
