Southern Iraqi Oil Fields Drilling Problems Identification, Analysis, and Treatment
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Multiple drilling problems are being faced continuously while drilling wells in the southern Iraqi oil fields. Many of which are handled poorly and inefficiently which yields longer non-productive time due to the lack of knowledge about the source of these problems. This study aims to investigate the Basra oil fields formations from Faris to Mishrif, diagnose the potential problems, and present the optimum treatment for each problem.</p><p>Gathering of field data and previous studies on the subject, in addition to the field experience of drilling supervisors were all the information bases of this study. Southern Iraqi oil fields were studied and analyzed carefully and widely starting with upper Faris formation (the first formation) to Mishrif formation (the last formation). The discussion of each formation is carried out comprehensively presenting their characteristics. All of the potential drilling problems that might be faced during the drilling operation are discussed while presenting their cause and source. A treatment plan for each problem is presented to ensure the most suitable solution.</p><p>As a result, the formations of southern Iraqi oil fields were studied vividly and a full characterization procedure was done including all the formations (from upper Faris to Mishrif formations). For each formation, the intensity and severity of the formation is explained by presenting all the problems that have occurred in offset wells or might occur due to potential causes that could yield the problem. The reason of each drilling problem and its origin is discussed. Multiple theories were discussed and proofed of why the drilling problems are found in these formations and their seriousness, the proof of these theories is presented in this study. For each problem, a treatment is concluded to ensure best practice, minimum time consumption, and least financial losses.</p><p>Southern Iraqi oil fields behold many drilling problems that are potentially dangerous unless acted upon with maximum care. In this study, a thorough discussion that explains the causes of these problems is presented, in addition to the most suitable treatment to handle each one.</p>

Improving the Reliability of Well Log Data Recorded in Oil and Gas Wells through Quality Control Approaches: A Case Study from a Southern Iraqi Field
...Show More Authors

Quality control of well logs has always been an important objective in reservoir studies because of the key role played by well logs as input data. This study aims to make a quality control on well logs data for two wells of Yamama formation in southern Iraqi field to ensuring and enhancing the measurement accuracy. In the beginning, the calibration data of before and after surveys are applied as initial evaluation for the quality of density log in well R-1. Then, depth matching is used to fit the depth of all logs in each well. After that, the comparison between the main and repeat sections is helped to check the repeatability. Finally, all uncorrected logs are environmentally corrected to remove the effects of the borehole conditi

Optimal Field Development Through Infill Drilling for the Main Pay in South Rumaila Oil Field
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Study of determining the optimal future field development has been done in a sector of South Rumaila oil field/ main pay. The aspects of net present value (economic evaluation) as objective function have been adopted in the present study.</p><p>Many different future prediction cases have been studied to determine the optimal production future scenario. The first future scenario was without water injection and the second and third with 7500 surface bbls/day and 15000 surface bbls/day water injection per well, respectively. At the beginning, the runs have been made to 2028 years, the results showed that the optimal future scenario is continuing without water in</p> ... Show More

GEOHISTORY ANALYSIS AND BASIN DEVELOPMENT OF THE LATE BERRIASIAN-APTIAN SUCCESSION, SOUTHERN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

The studied succession is deposited during late Berriasian-Aptian interval, which is represented by the Zubair, Ratawi, Yamama formations. The present study includes stratigraphic development and basin analysis for 21 boreholes (Rachi-1, 2; Rifaei-1, Diwan- 1; Ratawi-1, 2; Halfaia-5; West Qurna 12, 15; Nahr Umr-7,8; Zubair-47,49; North Rumaila- 72, 131, 158; Suba-7; Majnoon-2, 3 and Luhais-2, 12) distributed within 13 oil fields in the southern Iraq. The back-stripping process determined the original direction of basin depocenter for the studied succession. The Yamama basin in the study area stretches from southeast to southwest with single depocenters, it was located in the southeast of the study area near wells Mj-2, Mj-3.NR-8 and

The Use of One-Way Multivariate Analysis of Variance in the Impact of the Database on the Fields of Banking Service in Some Iraqi Banks
...Show More Authors

The purpose of this paper is to recognize the impact of database levels on fields of banking service (provision of remittance services and transfer of funds, save financial deposits, provision of personal loans services) in some of Iraqi banks using one-way multivariate analysis of variance. The paper population consisted of (120) employees, then a random stratified sample of (104) employees was taken. A questionnaire paper consists of (24) items were designed in order to analyze by one-Way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) using SPSS.One of the main findings of the current paper is that there is an impact of database on fields of banking service in Iraqi banks (Al Rafidain and Al Rasheed).

Determination of petrophysical properties of Sadi Formation in Halfaya oil field, southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study aimed to evaluate the reservoir petrophysical properties (porosity, water saturation, and permeability) for optimal flow unit assessment within the Sadi Formation. Utilizing open hole logging data from five wells, the Sadi formation was divided into two rock units. The upper unit (A) is 45-50 meters thick, mainly consisting of limestone, mainly consisting of shaly limestone at the lower part. The lower unit (B) has a thickness of approximately 75-80 meters and is primarily composed of limestone, further subdivided into three subunits (B1, B2, B3). The average water resistivity is 0.04 ohm-m, and the average mud filtrate resistivity is 0.06 ohm-m. The Pickett plot was utilized to determine Archie parameters (tortuosit

3D geological modeling for Yamama reservoir in Al-Nasiriyah oil field Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The geological modeling of an oil-bearing reservoir, which specifies the lithology and analyzes the petrophysical parameters of complex reservoir, its being created using Petrel software to construct reservoir models that describe and estimate porosity and water saturation distributions. 3D modeling of carbonate reservoirs has proven to be a highly effective technique for evaluate the economic benefit of the reservoir by estimating the formation petrophysical properties and calculating the oil reserves. The study aims constructed on evaluated Yamama formation in Four drilling wells (Nasiriyah-1, Nasiriyah-3, Nasiriyah-4, and Nasiriyah-5) entering the Yamama Formation of the Al-Nasiriyah field. In Al-Nasiriyah Oil field, and within t

The Effect of Soil Content, Drilling Parameters and Drilling Tool Diameter on the Vibration Assessment in the Drilling Rig
...Show More Authors

Abstract

This paper represents a study of the effect of the soil type, the drilling parameters and the drilling tool properties on the dynamic vibrational behavior of the drilling rig and its assessment in the drilling system. So first, an experimental drilling rig was designed and constructed to embrace the numerical work.

The experimental work included implementation of the drill-string in different types of soil with different properties according to the difference in the grains size, at different rotational speeds (RPM), and different weights on bit (WOB) (Thrust force), in a way that allows establishing the charts that correlate the vibration acceleration, the rate of penetration (ROP), and the power
