The study includes preparation and characterisation of mixed azo-linked Schiff-base ligands and their complexes. The starting material was isolated from the mixing of 2-amino pyridine diazonium salt with 2-amino-phenole and 4-amino-3- hydroxy-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid respectively in 1:1 mole ratio in water. In this work, the formation of azo-linked Schiffbase ligands are reported. Ligands of the azo-linked Schiff-base was achieved by the reaction of starting material with 4- (dimethylamino) benzaldehyde) (HL1 and HL2). The complexes were prepared by mixing the azo-linked Schiff-base ligands with the metal salts; CoII, NiII and CdII in a 1:1:1 mole ratio. Ligands and complexes were characterised by analytical and spectroscopic analyses including; microanalysis, chloride content, thermal analysis, magnetic susceptibility for complexes, conductance, FTIR, UV-Vis and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Physico-chemical techniques indicated complexes demonstrated six coordinate structures in the solid and solution sate. Biological activity of the ligands and their metal complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activity against four bacterial species (Escherichia coli and Enterobacter (G-)), (Bacillus stubtilis and Staphylococcus aureus (G+)).
The current study used extracts from the aloe vera (AV) plant and the hibiscus sabdariffa flower to make Ag-ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) and Ag-ZnO nanocomposites (NCs). Ag/ZnO NCs were compared to Ag NPs and ZnO NPs. They exhibited unique properties against bacteria and fungi that aren't present in either of the individual parts. The Ag-ZnO NCs from AV showed the best performance against E. coli, with an inhibition zone of up to 27 mm, compared to the other samples. The maximum absorbance peaks were observed at 431 nm and 410 nm for Ag NPs, at 374 nm and 377 nm for ZnO NPs and at 384 nm and 391 nm for Ag-ZnO NCs using AV leaf extract and hibiscus sabdariffa flower extract, respectively. The prepared samples sintered at different temperatures and varying soaking time. The results show that increasing the sintering temperature within 1350°C and soaking time of 10 hrs give better electrical and physical properties, which indicate the reaction is complete at higher temperature and period.
Two field experiments were conducted during the spring season 2020 in Karbala governorate to study the effect of irrigation systems, irrigation intervals, biofertilizers and polymers on some characteristics of vegetative growth and potato production.
