Traditional Molecular Study of Eimeria Species (Eucoccidiorida, Eimeriidae) from Ostriches (Struthio camelus Linnaeus, 1758) in Middle of Iraq
...Show More Authors

Abstract Background: Coccidiosis in birds, including ostriches, is a major concern for animal health and productivity worldwide. There is limited data on Eimeria infections in farmed ostriches (Struthio camelus). Therefore, this research aims to investigate the species of Eimeria in ostriches using molecular methods. It is considered the first detailed molecular study of Eimeria species in Iraqi ostrich farms. Methods: A total of 150 ostrich feces samples from farms in three regions of Iraq using both microscopy and molecular methods. Statistical analysis of the positive samples was performed using the chi-square test, with the significance level set at a p-value < 0.05. Results: Initial testing showed a high prevalence rate of 51.33%. Five samples, out of a total of 77 suspected cases, underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for confirmation followed by sequencing of the 18S rRNA gene. Sequencing results revealed two species of Eimeria: E. praecox and E. tenella. Notably, this is the first report of E. tenella infection in Iraqi ostriches. Genetic analysis of their sequences was performed and deposited in GenBank under accessions NO PV078121.1 to PV078125.1). Conclusions: These results have important implications, including understanding the host specificity of Eimeria and the parasite's transmission between other hosts. They also contribute to identifying coccidiosis control strategies in Iraqi ostrich farms. Furthermore, our molecular findings provide a foundation for future comparative research on the epidemiology of Eimeria in birds.

Abstract<p>In a survey of the crabronid fauna of Iraq during June to October 2022; 9species belonging to the genus Cerceris Latreille, 1802 were identified. Twospecies are new record of the fauna of Iraq: C. dorsalis Eversmann, 1849 and C. priesneri Mochi, 1939. Brief description, diagnostic characters, some collecting information, and photographs of each species are provided. As well provides a key to the species depending on many morphological features especially: propodeal enclosure, semicircular plate at base of second gastral sternites and free margin of clypeus. Moreover, this study observed that most collecte</p> ... Show More

Using Remote Sensing and GIS in Measuring Vegetation Cover Change from Satellite Imagery in Mosul City, North of Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>The aim of the study is the assessment of changes in the land cover within Mosul City in the north of Iraq using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques during the period (2014-2018). Satellite images of the Landsat 8 on this period have been selected to classify images in order to measure normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to assess land cover changes within Mosul City. The results indicated that the vegetative distribution ratio in 2014 is 4.98% of the total area under study, decreased to 4.77% in 2015 and then decreased to 4.54 % in 2016, after then decreased to 3,59% in 2017,then increased to 4.39% in 2018. Preparation, characterization, antioxidant activity of 1-(2-furoyl) thiourea derivatives and study the molecular docking of them as potent inhibitors of Urease enzyme
...Show More Authors

In this work, we synthesized thirteen compounds of 1-(2-furoyl)thiourea derivatives 1-13 by conversion of 2-furoyl chloride to 2-furoyl isothiocyanate by reacting it with potassium thiocyanate in dry acetone in a quite short reflux time then, in the same pot, different of (primary and secondary amines) were added individually to achieve thiourea derivatives. The products were characterized spectroscopically using (FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR) techniques. Some of them were evaluated as antioxidant agents using DPPH radical scavenging method, and all were examined theoretically as enzyme inhibitors against Bacillus pasteurii urease (pdb id: 4ubp) and  by studying  molecular docking using Autodock (4.2.6) software.

REMOTE SENSING MONITORING OF CHANGES IN SOIL POLLUTION A CASE STUDY IN A REGION IN BAGHDAD, IRAQ
...Show More Authors

One of the main environmental problems which affect extensively the areas in the world is soil salinity. Traditional data collection methods are neither enough for considering this important environmental problem nor accurate for soil studies. Remote sensing data could overcome most of these problems. Although satellite images are commonly used for these studies, however there are still needs to find the best calibration between the data and real situations in each specified area. Landsat satellite (TM & ETM+) images have been analyzed to study soil pollution (Exacerbation of salinity in the soil without the use of abandoned agricultural for a long time) at west of Baghdad city of Iraqi country for the years 1990, 2001 & 2007. Ruptured giant aneurysm of a cortical middle cerebral artery: A case report
...Show More Authors
Background:

Aneurysms of the cortical branches of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) are rare. They usually are secondary to traumatic or infectious etiologies and are rarely idiopathic. The specific characteristics of idiopathic aneurysms in such location are not well defined in the literature. The authors report a rare case of a ruptured giant idiopathic cortical MCA aneurysm with review of the available literature on this clinical entity.

Case Description:

A 24-year-old female presented with headache, disturbed level of consciousness, and right-sided weakness. Imaging studies showed a left frontoparietal intracer
