المستخلص: ساعدت التطورات التقنية الحديثة على تسهيل عمليات المسح والتوثيق ورسم الخرائط الاثرية فقللت بذا كثيراً من الجهد والمال اللازمين لذلك ومن هذا المنطلق اعتمد البحث نظم المعلومات الجغرافية وبرنامج (ARC GIS)، إذ يعد من اهم برامج نظم المعلومات الجغرافية ليكون عوناً، وبخاصة من حيث امكان تطبيق نظم المعلومات على موقع مدينة آشور بتوثيق ومسح موقع المدينة والعاصمة الأولى للآشوريين،و الدليل الحي على عظمة هذه الإمبراطورية، وقد تمكن البحث من إنجاز خرائط غرضية توثيقية لموقع المدينة بأسلوب layers(الطبقات)، و إجراء عدد من القياسات، فضلاً عن تفسير وتحليل صور المرئيات الفضائية المتوافرة للموقع مما مكّن من الخلوص الى مجموعة من النتائج التي ستكون عوناً في المستقبل لكل الباحثين والمنقبين في بقايا المدينة الآشورية، وسلط البحث الضوء على كل ماهو مهم في هذه المدينة ، واستعرض معلومات عن مفهوم نظم المعلومات و اهم تطبيقاتها في الدراسات الاثرية، وأوضح مجموعة المعطيات وأساليب العمل المتبعة في البحث وأنواع التمثيل الرقمي للبيانات الفضائية المعتمدة في انجاز الخرائط الغرضية، وأخيرا ركز البحث على نتائج تفسير وتحليل المشهد الفضائي لمدينة آشور، وأهم ما اعتمد من نظم المعلومات كوسيلة تطبيقية علمية على موقع المدينة الاثرية، بالاستعانة ببرنامج ARCMAP، ومرئيات الكوكل ايرث((google earth المصححة، ومرئية لاندسات(landsat)، وملفDEMبدقة30م لانتاج خارطة كنتورية، وعمل خارطة أساس للموقع وإعطاء رموز تفصيلية لتوضيح نتائج تطبيق نظم المعلومات الجغرافية على موفولوجية موقع المدينة.
GIS is characterized by great potentialeties to deal with huge geographical data and conclude what is necessary for it. It was very useful to get use of the potentialities of this system of GIS in the field of archaeology and to harvest very accurate results in a relatively short time, compared to the old archaeological methods.
