In this study, pure polylactic acid (PLA) and composite polylactic acid/ curcumin (PLA / Cur) were prepared by a suspension of ultrasonically agitated micrometer-sized curcumin powder, which was mixed with chloroform solvent  under slow mechanical stirring and incorporated into the PLA. The impact of decorating Fe, Ru, Rh, and Ir metals upon the sensing capability of a gallium nitride nanotube (GaNNT) in detecting chlorine trifluoride (CT) was scrutinized using the density functionals B3LYP and B97D. The interaction of the pristine GaNNT with CT was a physical adsorption with the sensing response (SR) of approximately 6.9. After decorating the above-mentioned metals on the GaNNT, adsorption energy of CT changed from −5.8 to −18.6, −18.9, −19.4, and −20.1 kcal/mol by decorating the Fe, Ru, Rh, and Ir metals into the GaNNT surface, respectively. This study was aimed to investigate the iron overload effect on the levels of ferritin, testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and prolactin (PRL) in male patients with β-thalassemia. Blood levels of sex hormones and ferritin were determined in (50 males) beta-thalassemia patients, aged (16-23) years and in (30) healthy males matched for age. During period from September 2012 to August 2013, concentration of total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) was assessed in drinking water in Al-Dora and Al-Rasheed purification plants. 216 samples were collected from final basins of chlorination in purification plants and from sites that distributed among residential areas fed by the project. TTHMs concentration did not exceed (0.15 ppm) which is the maximum limits according to Iraqi standard specification for drinking water. The highest value was in July (0.12 ppm) and the lowest value was in November (0.01 ppm).
