يرى سقراط ان الحب الحقيقي لا يكون خالصا دون معاناة الالم. وهو لا يكون جديرا بمدارك الحب الصوفي-    الالهي دون ارادة وقوة منع وتنفيذ شهوات الحواس البشرية.
