Content Assessment of the Sciences Textbooks of Grades (1-4) in the Light of International Standards in Mathematics and Science TIMSS 2019 (Cognitive Process Dimension)

The current research aims to determine the requirements of Trends of International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2019) and to find out the extent to which the content of science textbooks for grades (1-4) in the Sultanate of Oman includes the requirements of (TIMSS 2019). Only the Cognitive Process dimension has been considered when conducting the analysis. The study population includes all science books from the first to the fourth grade for the academic year 2021-2022. The study identified and organized the requirements in the study tool, which is a list of requirements of (TIMSS 2019). After confirming its validity and reliability, the analysis was performed, and data were collected and analyzed statistically using frequencies and percentages. The results showed that all domains (knowledge, Applying, and Reasoning) and all cognitive skills for each domain were included in each grade, but the percentages included in the books differed always from those specified in the requirements of (TIMSS 2019). The rank of the included domains in grades 1, 3, and 4, were as follows: first, knowledge, second, Applying, and finally, Reasoning, which is the same rank proposed by (TIMSS 2019). However, the rank for grade 2 was different where Applying came first while Reasoning and knowledge came in the second and third ranks respectively. When frequencies and ratios were calculated for each of the three domains of cognitive processes cumulatively over the four years (1-4), an interesting result popped out. The percentage included for each of the three domains is close to the percentages specified by (TIMSS 2019). This means that the science textbooks (Cambridge) designed for students from the first grade to the fourth grade have balanced well between the percentages included and the percentages specified by (TIMSS 2019), but over the four years and not over one year only, as the difference between the percentages included and the percentages specified by (TIMSS 2019) in the field of knowledge was about 6.5 percentage points in favor of the percentage included, and the difference in the field of Applying was about 4.5 points Percentage in favor of the specified percentage. As for Reasoning, the difference was less than two points only in favor of the specified percentage, which means that there is a relatively greater focus on knowledge and relatively less on Applying and Reasoning.

Computational Optimization of the Radial and Spiral Distortion Aberration Coefficients of Magnetic Deflector

Abstract:The optimum design of the magnetic deflector with the lowest values of the radial and spiral distortion aberration coefficients was computed. The optimized calculations were made using three models, Glaser bell-shaped, Grivet-lenz and exponential models. By using the optimum axial field distribution, the pole pieces shape which gave rise to those field distributions was found by using the reconstruction method. The calculations show that the results of the three models coincide at the lower values of the excitation parameter. The Effect of Sodium Propionate on Microorganism and Self life of Laboratory Biscuit

This study has been conducted to examin the effect of sodium propionate at different level of 0.03,0.06,0.10% on the number of bacteria and mold and to extend the storage life of laboratory processed biscuit. The results indicated that the use of 0.10% sodium propionate prolonged the storage peroid until the third month, while the use of 0.20% sodium propionate showed no growth of bacteria up to six month of storage, three types of bacteria has been isolated from processed biscuit, namely, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Esherichia coli. using 0.10% sodium propionate showed no growth of mold up to three month of storage ,while using of 0.15 % and 0.20% sodium propionate prevent the growth

Preparation and Study of the Mechanical Properties of Unsaturated Polyester Resin/Graphene Nanocomposite

Nanocomposite was prepared using unsaturated polyester (UP) resin as a matrix and graphene nanoparticles as a reinforcement material in six percentage weights (0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 1 and 1.5%). Mechanical, calorimetric and thermal studies were performed on the (UP) resin/graphene nanocomposite. All tests showed a clear improvement of all mechanical properties examined (hardness, flexural strength (F.S), impact strength (I.S) and tensile strength (T.S)) with increasing graphene percentage. In addition, the temperature of glass transition and thermal conductivity of this composite increased with increasing graphene content.

Effect of TiO2 on the sintering behavior and microstructure of stoichiometric spinel (MgAl2O4)

The Effect of He:Ne Laser on Viability and Growth Rate of Leishmania Major

An isolate of Leishmania major was grown on the semisolid medium and incubated at 26ºC. The isolate was irradiated by He: Ne laser (632.8 nm, 10 mW) at exposure times (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30) minutes in their respective order. The unirradiated groups represent control group. The results indicated that the use of 0.03% potassium sorbate prolonged the storage peroid until the third month .three types of bacteria has been isolated from processed biscuit, namely, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Esherichia coli using 0.06% potassium sorbate showed no growth of bacteria up to six month of storage ,while using of 0.03% and 0.06% potassium sorbate prevent the growth of mold up to three and six months of storage respectively.
