Vocabulary Learning Strategies Employed by English as Foreign Language Students at NBU University

ABSTRACT

Learning vocabulary is a challenging task for female English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Thus, improving students’ knowledge of vocabulary is critical if they are to make progress in learning a new language. The current study aimed at exploring the vocabulary learning strategies used by EFL students at Northern Border University (NBU). It also aimed to identify the mechanisms applied by EFL students at NBU University to learn vocabulary. It also aimed at evaluating the approaches adopted by EFL female students at Northern Border University (NBU) to learn a language. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical method. Two research instruments were developed to collect data namely, a survey questionnaire on vocabulary learning strategies was used to collect data from the students on the strategies that they used to learn vocabulary. Also, the researcher used a semi-structured interview to assess and collect qualitative data about the effectiveness of the vocabulary learning strategies used by EFL students at NBU University. Results of this study revealed that the students preferred the cognitively demanding techniques over the techniques currently in use, along with the memory strategies. The study also showed that social strategies are rarely implemented in teaching vocabulary these days.

The Effect of a Behavioral-Cognitive Training Program on Problems Solving among college students in the faculty of education for women : Baghdad University

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a Cognitive- Behavioral Training Program in reducing Problems Solving among a sample of education university  College Students, the study sample consisted of (50) students were randomly assigned to two groups: experimental, and control; (25) students per group, the results of (ANOVA) revealed that there were significant differences at (p < 0.05) between experimental and control group in Problems Solving level, while there were significant differences between both groups in achievement. The obstacles that encounter a program of rehabilitating released prisoners as perceived by prisoners themselves in tubas' province

The study intends to explore the obstacles that encounter a program of rehabilitating released prisoners as perceived by prisoners themselves in tubas' province. To this end, the researcher used a questionnaire as an instrument which was applied on (150) prisoner had chosen randomly to collect the study data. The findings revealed no significant differences among obstacles the encounter program regarding to the following variables: age, detention period, and number of detention, additionally, the findings found that there is a variance of obstacles mean according to the prisoners themselves, rehabilitation program, and the facility of that program.

Analysis of Impoliteness Strategies Used in Putin's Speech at Annexation Ceremony

This study aims to investigate the types of impoliteness strategies used in Putin's speech at the annexation ceremony. All of Putin's speeches were intentionally delivered to cause damage to the hearers' negative and positive faces. Culpeper's (2011) classifications of impoliteness, which consist of five strategies that are the opposite of politeness, were adopted. Measuring optimism and pessimism among university students
