Kinetic Study of the Recovery of Phosphorus from Wastewater by Calcium Hydroxide Solution

This research presents a study for precipitating phosphorus (as phosphate ion) from simulated wastewater (5ppm initial concentration of phosphorus) using calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 solution. The removal of phosphorus by Ca (OH)2 solution is expected to be very effective since the chemical reaction is of acid-base type but Ca(OH)2 forms complex compound with phosphate ions called. Hydroxyapatite Ca5 (PO4)3OH. hydroxyapatite is slightly soluble in water. This research was directed towards sustainable elements as phosphorus. Kinetics of the dissolution reaction of hydroxyapatite was investigated to find the best factors to recover phosphorus. The effect of concentration of Ca(OH)2 (180- 380 ppm) on phosphorus precipitation on the outputs like the residual phosphorus concentration in the simulated solution, the percentage removal of phosphorus and the weight of the precipitate was also studied. The residual phosphorus decreased with increasing Ca(OH)2 concentration while the percentage removal, as well as the weight of the precipitate, increased with increasing Ca(OH)2 concentration at constant temperature and mixing speed. The best Ca(OH)2 concentration was obtained depending on the lowest amount of the residual phosphorus concentration. The best value obtained was 230 ppm at a fixed mixing speed of 400 rpm and a temperature of 20°C.  The best value for Ca(OH)2 concentration under fixed stirring speed and temperature was applied on a real wastewater taken from the detergent factory. The percentage removal was 30. 69% due to the complexity of the real sample. Oxalic acid was chosen to dissolve hydroxyapatite because it is an organic acid, less hazardous than mineral acids and of less cost. Kinetics of the dissolution reaction of hydroxyapatite in (160 ppm) concentration oxalic acid under ambient conditions (20°C and 1 atm (and mild stirring (200 rpm) was studied using the differential method for determining the order of the reaction which was 0.4296 and the rate constant 0.0743 (L/mg)-0.5704. min-1. The reaction was considered as a rate-controlled reaction.

Extraction of Pelletierine from Punica granatum L.by Liquid Membrane Technique and Modelling

This work was conducted to study the extraction of pelletierine sulphate from Punica granatum L. roots by liquid membrane techniques. Pelletierine sulphate is used widely in medicine. The general behavior of extraction process indicates that pelletierine conversion increased with increasing the number of stages and the discs rotation speed but high rotation speed was not favored because of the increased risk of droplet formation during the operation. Synthesis of Nanozeolite NaA from Pure Source Material Using Sol Gel Method

In this work, the nano particles of Na-A zeolite were synthesized by sol –gel method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray  luorescence (XRF), Surface  area and pore volume, Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Results show that the nano A zeolite is with average crystal size is 74.77 nm., Si/Al ratio 1.03, BET surface area was 581.211m2/g and the pore volume for NaA was found equal to 0.355cm3/g.

Sensory Properties of Certain Products Processed from Germinated Broad Beans and Chickpeas

This study was carried out to find out the effect of germination of broad beans and chickpeas seeds for different periods on the sensory properties of homus bethina and falafel. The results revealed that the studied properties were significantly different (P<0.05) in tenderness, flavor and overall acceptance as compared to control samples. Isolation and Identification of Alkaline Protease Producing Aspergills niger from Iraqi Soils

Abstract<p>Twenty purified isolates were obtained by using different soil sources, only twelve isolates belonging to Aspergillus genera depending on cultural and morphological characterization. The isolates were used as alkaline protease producer. The highest proteolytic, enzymatic activity (95.83U/ml) was obtained from <italic>Aspergillus</italic> sp. ZE isolate. This isolate was identified by 5.8 rRNA gene sequencing as <italic>Aspergills niger</italic> (accuracy of 99%), which was matched with the sequence of <italic>Aspergills niger</italic> strain GM775228 recorded in Gene bank under the ID: GM 775228.1.</p>

Synthesis of Functionalized Silica from Rice Husks Containing C-I End Group

Cloning and expression of a lipase gene from Pseudomonas aeruginosa into E.coli

Fifteen local isolates of Pseudomonas were obtained from several sources such as soil, water and some high-fat foods (Meat, olives, coconuts, etc.). The ability of isolates to produce lipase was measured by the size of clear zone on Tween 20 solid medium and by measuring the enzymatic activity and specific activity. Isolate M3 (as named in this study) was found to be the most efficient for the production of the lipase with enzymatic activity reached 56.6 U/ml and specific activity of 305.94 U/mg.
