This study was conducted to examine the discharge capacity of the reach of the Tigris River between Kut and Amarah Barrages of 250km in length. The examination includes simulation the current capacity of the reach by using HEC-RAS model. 247cross sections surveyed in 2012 were used in the simulation. The model was calibrated using observed discharges of 533, 800, 1025 and 3000m3/s discharged at Kut Barrage during 2013, 1995, 1995 and 1988, respectively, and its related water level at three gauge stations located along the reach. The result of calibration process indicated that the lowest Root Mean Square Error of 0.095 can be obtained when using Manning’s n coefficient of 0.026, 0.03 for the Kut- Ali Al Garbi and Ali Al Garbi- Amarah reaches respectively, and 0.03 for the flood plain of the whole reach under study. The reach under study has two lateral inflow streams, UmAljury, which joins Tigris River at station 51km, and Aljabab, which joins Tigris River at station 57km. The discharge of Aljabab varies between 0 and 400m3/s and the discharge of UmAljury varies between 0 and 50m3/s. The results showed that the current capacity of the main channel of the reach of the Tigris River between Kut and Amarah Barrages is 400m3/s. The water levels kept less 1m than both levees in case of discharging 1800m3/s from Kut Barrage, with no lateral inflows, and 1700m3/s with lateral inflow. The reach of Tigris River fails to accommodate the flood discharge of 3300m3/s which is the discharge of the flood of 1988 measured at Kut Barage. It can be concluded that the reach had large amount of sediment for the period from 1988 to 2012 and the reach capacity reduced to about half its capacity of 1988 during this period. The results of removing 12 islands and 2 sidebars by reshaping the current condition into trapezoidal cross-section will decrease the surface water levels by 20cm and flow of 1900m3/s can be discharged safely at Kut Barrage without any lateral inflow and 1800m3/s with lateral inflow from the tributaries. While, expand 58 narrow cross-sections that choking the flow, the water levels along the reach are lowered by an average of 20cm in addition to that 20cm when modifying the cross-sections at the islands and sidebars. In this case, flow of 2100m3/s can safely be discharged from Kut Barrage without any lateral inflow and 1900m3/s with lateral inflow. The result when modifying additional 111 cross-sections showed that the reach can safely accommodate a flood wave of 3300m3/s from Kut Barrage without any lateral inflow and 3000m3/s with lateral inflow.
The placement of buildings and structures on/or adjacent to slopes is possible, but this poses a danger to the structure due to failures that occur in slopes. Therefore, a solution or improvement should be determined for these issues of the collapse of the structure as a result of the failure of the slopes. A laboratory model has been built to test the impact of some variables on the bearing capacity factor. The variables include the magnitude of static axial load applied at the center of footing, the depth of embedment, the spacing between geogrid reinforcement layer and the numbering of the geogrid sheet under the footing, the inclination angle of slope clayey soil (β), the spacing between the footing's edge and the slope's end (b/H). Various drilling fluid have been widely used in the oil industry to improve lifting capacity. In this study, three mud type have been used which they are, oil base mud, X-anthan polymer and a mixture of CMC and bentonite ,by using Carrying Capacity Index calculation (CCI) , the Xanthan gave good values of CCI than other studied drilling fluid. By using Sifferman chart and field data from well in south of Iraq and API equation to find cutting concentration in the annulus, The results showed that the used of thick mud increase the lifting capacity and decrease volumetric drill c

On this basis, a solution must be found to use this waste and recycle it safely so that it does not threaten the environment. Therefore, this research used plastic waste as an improvement material for clay soil. In this research, two types of tests were conducted, the first of which was a laboratory test, where the undrained shear strength (cohesion), compression index (Cc), and swelling index (Cr) of the improved and unimproved soils were calculated (plastic was added in pr

This has led investigators to focus their attention on the male gamete and in particular its genome. Objective: To explore which of the sperm DNA damage parameters measured by comet assay are more reliable, and their relations with the standard semen parameters. Methods: Study was done on 40 infertile men selected from couples attending the Institute of Embryo Reasearch and Infertility Treatment at Al-Kadhimiya City/ Baghdad in the period between February 2009 and May 2009, with a history of infertility of ≥1 years; and 15 healthy volunteers of proven fertili

The problem of the research was focused on answering the following question: What are the requirements for the sign in terms of its transformation between the universality and locality in the read-out?

The product refill PSA process was found to perform 33% better (weight of zeolite required or productivity) than the pressure equalization process. The design is based on the adsorption equilibrium of a binary mixture of O2 and N2 for two of the most commonly used adsorbents, 5A & 13X, and extension from a single column approach. Zeolite 13X was found to perform 6% better than zeolite 5A. The most effective variables were determined to be the adsorption step time and the operational pressure. Increasing the adsorption step

The gallbladder serves as a storage reservoir for secretions before they are released into the digestive system through the duodenum. The bile ducts branch from the liver’s lobes and ultimately connect to the digestive system, making this structure significant and distinct among different animal species. This review focuses on the differences between dogs and cats, highlighting the importance of these differences from both health and pathological perspectives. After conducting a detailed scientific review of the biliary tree in dogs and cats, we concluded that cats are more susceptible to the d
