Adsorptive Removal of Furfural from Wastewater on Prepared Activated Carbon from Sawdust

Furfural is a toxic aromatic aldehyde that can cause a severe environmental problem especially the wastewater drown from petroleum refinery units. In the present work, a useless by-product from local furniture manufacturing industry; sawdust was used as raw material for the preparation of activated carbon which is chemically activated with phosphoric acid. The effect of adsorption variables which include initial pH of solution (2-9), agitation speed (50-250) rpm, agitation time (15-120) min, initial concentration of furfural (50-250) ppm, and amount of adsorbent material (0.5-2.5) g for the three adsorbents used (prepared activated carbon, commercial activated carbon and raw sawdust) were investigated in a batch process in order to obtain the maximum furfural removal from wastewater. The results obtained from the experimental investigation show that the percentage removal of furfural increases with increasing pH and agitation speed until a maximum value after that it decreased with increasing pH and agitation speed. Also increases with increasing amount of adsorbent material and agitation time until a maximum value then reaches a constant value approximately, and decreasing with increasing furfural concentration. The maximum removal percent of furfural was 97.8, 94.4 and 55.9% for prepared activated carbon, commercial activated carbon, and raw sawdust respectively, which is obtained at a pH of 7.0, agitation speed of 150 revolutions per minute, agitation time of 105 minutes, furfural concentration of 100mg/L, and adsorbent amount of 1.5gm. Langmuir model is best fitted the data than Freundlich model.

Mechanical and thermal properties of cockles shell cementing material

that addition of cockles shell powder at 50% of mortar weight
improves hardness and compressive strength notably and reduces the
thermal conductivity of the end product. Results suggest the
possibility to incorporate cockles shell powders as constituents in
cement mortars for construction and plastering applications.

The Psychological Security of Students in the Kindergarten Department

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the psychological security of students in the kindergarten department and identify if there is a significant difference between stage one and stage four students. To do this, the researcher adopted the psychological research scale of (Al-mohamdawi, 2007) that consisted of (30) items. It was administered to (120) female students chosen randomly from the kindergarten department in the college of education for women for the academic year (2029-2021). The results revealed that students in the kindergarten department have psychological security. There is a significant difference between stage one and four students in favor of stage four students.

Preparation and Characterization of Biodegradable Microspheres Containing Sertraline Hydrochloride

Review of the Kriging Technique Applications to Groundwater Quality

Kriging, a geostatistical technique, has been used for many years to evaluate groundwater quality. The best estimation data for unsampled points were determined by using this method depending on measured variables for an area. The groundwater contaminants assessment worldwide was found through many kriging methods. The present paper shows a review of the most known methods of kriging that were used in estimating and mapping the groundwater quality. Indicator kriging, simple kriging, cokriging, ordinary kriging, disjunctive kriging and lognormal kriging are the most used techniques. In addition, the concept of the disjunctive kriging method was explained in this work to be easily understood.
