The method was based on oxidation of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine with potassium periodate and coupling with Thymol in alkaline medium to form an intense violet water-soluble dye that is stable and has a maximum absorption at 570 nm. The study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity using different concentrations of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of dried lemongrass leaves. Chemical phytochemical tests were performed for aqueous and alcoholic extracts of lemongrass. Antimicrobials activity was tested using agar disc diffusion method against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
