Discharge Coefficient of Contracted Rectangular Sharp-Crested Weirs, an Experimental Study

An experimental study is made here to investigate the discharge coefficient for contracted rectangular Sharp crested weirs. Three Models are used, each with different weir width to flume width ratios (0.333, 0.5, and 0.666). The experimental work is conducted in a standard flume with high-precision head and flow measuring devices. Results are used to find a dimensionless equation for the discharge coefficient variation with geometrical, flow, and fluid properties. These are the ratio of the total head to the weir height, the ratio of the contracted weir width to the flume width, the ratio of the total head to the contracted width, and Reynolds and Weber numbers. Results show that the relationship between the discharge coefficient and these variables is a non-linear power function with a determination coefficient of 0.97. The importance and normalized importance analysis show that 56.3 % of the discharge coefficient variation is explained by the head-to-contracted width of the weir ratio followed by lower effects of the other variables, namely 16.5, 13.7, 12.4, and 1.2 % for contracted width to flume width ratio, Reynolds number, the head to the contracted width ratio, and Weber, respectively. The effect of the Weber number on the discharge coefficient is much lower than that of the Reynolds number.

Determination of Volumetric Mass Transfer Coefficient in Fixed Bed Adsorption

This work was conducted to determine the volumetric mass transfer coefficient (Ky.a) infixed bed adsorption using hexane-benzene mixture by adsorption onto a fixed bed of white silica gel. Benzene concentration was measured by gas chromatography. The effect of feed flow rate and initial concentration of benzene in hexane-benzene mixture on the volumetric mass transfer coefficient and on the adsorption capacity of silica gel was investigated.

Experimental Study of Hybrid Solar Air Conditioning System in Iraq

In this paper, an experimental study of the thermal performance for hybrid solar air conditioning system was carried out, to investigate system suitability for the hot climate in Iraq. The system consists of vapor compression unit combined with evacuated tube solar collector and liquid storage tank. Experimental Study of Interior Temperature Distribution Inside Parked Automobile Cabin

Temperature inside the vehicle cabin is very important to provide comfortable conditions to the car passengers. Temperature inside the cabin will be increased, when the car is left or parked directly under the sunlight. Experimental studies were performed in Baghdad, Iraq (33.3 oN, 44.4 oE) to investigate the effects of solar radiation on car cabin components (dashboard, steering wheel, seat, and inside air). Pathological Nipple discharge: a comparison between breast ultrasound and mammography

Background:Nipple discharge is a relatively common complaint of females in reproductive age and after menopause.

Objectives: The aim of this stud was to compare the radiological findings of mammography and ultrasound in women with pathological nipple discharge of different pathology.

 Methods:  mammography and ultrasound was done for a total of 50 patients attending the National center of Early detection of Breast cancer with pathological nipple discharge. Ultrasound guided FNA was performed for all cases, and histopathology was available for eleven case.

A Study of the Effectiveness of Tin on the Thermal Conductivity Coefficient and Electrical Resistance of Se60Te40-xSnx Chalcogenide Glass

     This research calculated the effect of partial replacement of Trillium with tin by weight ratios x=0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 of the weight of manufactured samples on the thermal conductivity coefficient of Se60Te40-xSnx chalcogenide glasses. The thermal conductivity coefficient of the samples was calculated using a disk- Lee. The results showed that increasing the concentration of tin improves the thermal insulation ability by decreasing the thermal conductivity value and then determining the optimal weight ratios at which a large thermal insulation is obtained.
