Flow Over the Spillway of AlAdhiam Dam Under Gated Condition
...Show More Authors

The AlAdhaim Dam is located 133 kilometers northeast of Baghdad. It is a multipurpose dam and joints the Iraqi dam system in 2000. It has a storage capacity of 1.5 billion m3. The dam has an ogee spillway with a length of 562 m, a crest level of 131.5 m.a.m.s.l. and a maximum discharge capacity of 1150 m3/s at its maximum storage height of 143 m.a.m.s.l. This research aimed to investigate the hydrodynamics performance of the spillway and the stilling basin of AlAdhiam Dam by using numerical simulation models under gated situations. It was suggested to modify the dam capacity by increasing the dam's storage capacity by installing gates on the crest of the dam spillway. The FLUENT program was used to simulate the flow over the spillway. The free surface was calculated using the volume of fluid (VOF) method. To deal with turbulence, the SST k-ω turbulence model was used. The study showed that the spillway is capable of carrying the designed flood discharge and the modified conditions with negative pressure behind the gate and at some points along the spillway. Hydraulic jumps occur at various distances throughout the plunge pool depending on the incoming velocity in the flip bucket.

Curvature Ductility of Reinforced Concrete Column Sections Under Different strain Rates
...Show More Authors

This paper presents theoretical parametric study of the curvature ductility capacity for reinforced concrete column sections. The study considers the behavior of concrete and reinforcing steel under different strain rates. A computer program has been written to compute the curvature ductility taking into account the spalling in concrete cover. Strain rate sensitive constitutive models of steel and concrete were used for predicting the moment-curvature relationship of reinforced concrete columns at different rate of straining. The study parameters are the yield strength of main reinforcement, yield strength of transverse reinforcement, compressive strength of concrete, spacing of ties and the axial load. The results indicated that hi

Structural Performance of Reinforced Concrete Beams under Impact Loading: A Review
...Show More Authors

This study presented a summarized review investigation about the influence of the impact force exerted on reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Different aspects were considered and highlighted to achieve the main goal of this study. First of all, measuring the impact force generated by a drop in mass was discussed, focusing on how various factors influence the magnitude of the force. Then, after the dynamic equilibrium and shear dominance in the Impact test were deeply and widely discussed. Moreover, the Impact and high-rate loading effect on the reinforced concrete beams was widely investigated. The influence of steel fiber on the dynamic response of reinforced concrete beams affected by impact loading was also included in this study. The findi

PATH COEFFICIENT ANALYSES OF INTRODUCED RICE VARIETIES UNDER DIFFERENT PLANTING DISTANCES
...Show More Authors

Five rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars (N22, Amber, Moroberekan, Kinandang Patong, and Azucena) underwent path coefficient analysis across three plant spacings (15 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 20 cm, and 25 cm× 25 cm) in the summer of 2017 at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, Al-Jadriya, Iraq. The experiment proceeded in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with a split-plot arrangement and three replications. The main plots included three planting distances, and the subplot comprised five varieties. The traits studied were plant height, flag leaf area, number of tillers, panicle number, length and branches, grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight, and the percentage of unfilled grains. The results

Synthesis and Characterization of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles under Different pH Conditions
...Show More Authors

Ethanol as a solvent, a precursor of titanium isopropoxide and a stabilizer of either hydrochloric acid or ammonium hydroxide was used to prepare a titanium dioxide aqueous solution. The aqueous solutions with different values of pH and the morphology of the resultant reaction of the nanoparticles of titanium dioxide were investigated. The X-ray diffraction showed that at low temperatures and with acidic solutions, rutile structures are more favorable to grow on titanium dioxide synthesized, while at low and average temperatures and with base solutions, anatase phase is more pronounced. The crystalline form and the re-confirmation of the crystallite size growth were observed by the scanning electron microscopy. The atomi

Numerical Study of Specially Shaped Slender RC Columns under Compressive Load
...Show More Authors
Abstract
In most Reinforced Concrete (RC) buildings, the cross-section size of rectangular columns that conventionally used in these structures is larger than the thickness of their partitions. Consequently, a part of the column is protruded out of the wall which has some architectural disadvantages. Reducing the column size by using high strength concrete will result in slender column, thus the stability problem may be occurred. The stability problem is difficult to be overcome with rectangular columns. This paper study the effectiveness of using new types of columns called Specially Shaped Reinforced Concrete (SSRC) columns. Besides, the use of SSRC columns provides many structural advantage
... Show More

PERFORMANCE, VARIANCE COMPONENTS AND HERITABILITY OF OATS CULTIVERS UNDER IRRIGATION INTERVALS
...Show More Authors

Seeds of five cultivars of oats (Avena sativa) were introduced from Italy in 2009. Seeds were propagated on the farm of the Dept. of Field Crops Sci. / Coll. of Agric. / Univ. of Baghdad in the season 2009 – 2010. The cultivars Anatolia, Alguda, Hamel, Pimula and Genzania were planted under 3 irrigation intervals; 3, 4 and 5 weeks to give water depth of 480, 400 and 320 mm, respectively . The depth of water was 80 mm each irrigation. A factorial experiment with RCBD of 4 replicates was conducted in 2 consecutive seasons in 2010 – 2011 and 2011 – 2012. The cultivar Alguda gave highest grain yield (8.07 t/ ha) under 480 mm, and 7.02 t / ha average of 3 water depths. This cultivar was characterized by high growth rate (13.2 g/m2/ d) that

Performance of RC Beams reinforced with Steel Fibers under Pure Torsion
...Show More Authors

Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams are designed to resist torsion and shear and flexural failure due to applied loading. The failure mode of concrete elements owing to shear and torsion is unwanted and occurs without warning. So, in the design process it must be taken into account that if failure takes place, it is preferable for it to be flexural as this gives an indication before it occurs. The aim of the present study is to investigate the impact of using steel fibers with and without ordinary torsional reinforcements, on the torsional strength, crack distribution, and ductility of RC beams. The intended plan is to investigate the torsional capacity enhancement of RC beams with added steel fibers under monotonic torsional load. The f

Steel Collar Strengthening of a Slab-Column Connection under Eccentric Load
...Show More Authors

The current study focuses on the punching shear resistance of reinforced concrete flat slabs with steel collars, examining it both experimentally and numerically. Six square flat slab specimens were casted and tested under static load, axial load, and eccentric load. The effects of the steel collars and eccentricity on the load-displacement behavior, ultimate load capacity, cracking load, failure mode, stiffness, failure angle, and ductility, were investigated. The results demonstrated that using steel collars in slab-column connection greatly increases the shear capacity of the slab under eccentric loads and moments. The strengthened slabs' ultimate capacity increased by 34% and 61%, respectively, compared to that of the slabs with
