The shear strength of soil is one of the most important soil properties that should be identified before any foundation design. The presence of gypseous soil exacerbates foundation problems. In this research, an approach to forecasting shear strength parameters of gypseous soils based on basic soil properties was created using Artificial Neural Networks. Two models were built to forecast the cohesion and the angle of internal friction. Nine basic soil properties were used as inputs to both models for they were considered to have the most significant impact on soil shear strength, namely: depth, gypsum content, passing sieve no.200, liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index, water content, dry unit weight, and initial voids ratio. Multi-layer perceptron training by the backpropagation algorithm was used in creating the network. It was found that both models can predict shear strength parameters for gypseous soils with good reliability. Sensitivity analysis of the first model indicated that dry unit weight and plasticity index have the most significant effect on the predicted cohesion. While in the second model, the results indicated that the gypsum content and plasticity index have the most significant effect on the predicted angle of internal friction.
Background: Accurate measurement of a patient’s height and weight is an essential part of diagnosis and therapy, but there is some controversy as to how to calculate the height and weight of patients with disabilities. Objective: This study aims to use anthropometric measurements (arm span, length of leg, chest circumference, and waist circumference) to find a model (alternatives) that can allow the calculation of the height and the body weight of patients with disabilities. Additionally, a model for the prediction of weight and height measurements of patients with disabilities was established. Method: Four hander patients aged 20-80 years were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups, 210 (52.5%) male and 190 (47.5%) fe

From the diversity of Big Data variables comes many challenges that can be interesting to the researchers who try their best to find new and novel methods to estimate the parameters of linear regression model. Data has been collected by Central Statistical Organization IRAQ, and the child labor in Iraq has been chosen as data. Child labor is the most vital phenomena that both society and education are suffering from and it affects the future of our next generation. Two methods have been selected to estimate the parameter

Show MoreAbstract: The utility of DNA sequencing in diagnosing and prognosis of diseases is vital for assessing the risk of genetic disorders, particularly for asymptomatic individuals with a genetic predisposition. Such diagnostic approaches are integral in guiding health and lifestyle decisions and preparing families with the necessary foreknowledge to anticipate potential genetic abnormalities. The present study explores implementing a define-by-run deep learning (DL) model optimized using the Tree-structured Parzen estimator algorithm to enhance the precision of genetic diagnostic tools. Unlike conventional models, the define-by-run model bolsters accuracy through dynamic adaptation to data during the learning process and iterative optimization

Show MoreOne of the challenges faced by traditional intrusion detection systems based on machine learning or deep learning is instability when dealing with unbalanced network traffic, leading to failure in detecting certain attacks (minority classifications). Additionally, they struggle with multi-stage attacks, resulting in an increase in false alarms. This paper presents a hierarchical intrusion detection system supported by a Prediction Verification Layer (PVL) and a Feature Inheritance Mechanism (FIM). Where PVL contributes to documenting the system’s final decision and increasing sensitivity to minority attacks, FIM also helps in inheriting features from previous layers and correcting errors as much as possible. Additionally, it allows for ad

Despite progress, conventional risk models still omit critical women-specific factors, limiting their accuracy. Precision medicine, supported by artificial intelligence, provides a framework to integrate these overlooked determinants. This approach may help close existing gaps in cardiovascular risk prediction. Sex-specific biomarkers that contribute to overall cardiovascular risk can be incorporated into risk assessment tools to improve prevention strategies, early detection, and personalized intervention. This study evaluated shear bond strength between thermoplastic nylon material (flexible) and auto polymerizing acrylic resin subjected to holes and silica coated layer. Materials and Method: Forty five (45) specimens were prepared from flexible acrylic bonded to auto-polymerizing acrylic resin and divided into three groups according to the surface treatments as follows: Group A: 15 specimens of flexible acrylic bonded with cold-cure acrylic by holes. Group B: 15 specimens of flexible acrylic bonded with cold-cure acrylic by silica coated layer. Group C: 15 specimens of flexible acrylic bon

of 24 short reinforced concrete columns with and without steel fibers was carried out. The columns
had a circular section (200 mm diameter and 900 mm long). Test variables include concrete
strength, spacing of spiral reinforcement, and inclusion of steel fibers. The axial stress and axial
strains were obtained and used to evaluate the effects of the presence of steel fibers. It was found
that the addition of steel fibers slightly improves the load carrying capacity of the tested columns
whereas it significantly enhances the ductility of these specimens. Test results also indicated that for
