The Effect of Adding High-Density Polyethylene Polymer on the Engineering Characteristics for Sandy Soil

The loose sand is subject to large settlement when it is exposed to high stresses. This settlement is due to the nature of the high drainage of sand, which displays foundations and constructions to a large danger. The densification of loose sandy soils is required to provide sufficient bearing capacity for the structures. Thus soil stabilization is used to avoid failure in the facilities. Traditional methods of stabilized sandy soil such as fly ash, bituminous, and cement often require an extended curing period. The use of polymers to stabilize sandy soils is more extensive nowadays because it does not require a long curing time in addition to being chemically stable. In this study, the effect of adding different percentages of high-density polyethylene HDPE  to the sandy soils' engineering characteristics such as the angle of internal frictions Ø0, shear strength τ, California Bearing Ratio CBR, and permeability k was studied. The results of laboratory tests showed that using of HDPE at percentages  (0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 1, and 3%) led to a decrease in soil permeability by 18% and an increase in both the angle of internal friction, the CBR value, and shear strength about 27.2%, 180.9%, and 38.6 % respectively by adding 1%. Effect of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Plant Density on Yield and Growth of Sunflower

The effect of nitrogen fertilizer and the planting distance on growth and yield of the sunflower cultivar (Taka) was investigated. The experiment was conducted in the field using five nitrogen fertilizer levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200) kg/donum and three planting distances (10, 20, 30) cm/plant. The experiment design was split-plot by using RCBD with four replicates. The level of fertilizer as the main plot, while the planting distance as the sub plot. Effect of Swelling Soil on Load Carrying Capacity of a Single Pile

An effective solution was found to avoid the danger of such soils by using piles. A single pile embedded in an elasto-plastic expansive soil has been analyzed by using one of the available software which is ABAQUS to investigate the effect of applied loads on pile’s top and investigate the effect of swelling soils on load carrying capacity of the pile. Structure Rheology of Polyethylene Oxide Solution

Intrinsic viscosities have been studied for polyethylene oxide in water which has wide industrial applications. The polyethylene oxide samples had two different structures, the first one was linear and covers a wide range of molecular weight of 1, 3, 10, 20, 35, 99, 370, 1100, 4600, and 8000 kg/mol and the second one was branched and had molecular weights of 0.55 and 40 kg/mol.
Intrinsic viscosities and Huggins constants have been determined for all types and molecular weights mentioned above at 25ºC using a capillary viscometer. The values of Mark-Houwink parameters (K and a) were equal to 0.0068 ml/g and 0.67 respectively, and have not been published for this range of molecular weight in as yet.
