Behavior of Defective Cast in Place Piles
...Show More Authors

This paper deals with testing defected model piles in the soil in order to study their behavior. In this respect, the results of model pile tests are discussed either geotechnically or structurally according to the type of failure.

Two parameters were studied in order to evaluate the general behavior of defective piles. These parameters include the defect location and the defect type for floating and end bearing pile. The results of the experimental work indicated that the critical case for floating pile is seen to be when the defect of (5%) at the first third of the pile length at which the decrease in the bearing capacity is about (21%), while the decrease in the bearing capacity is found to be (14%) and (10%), when the defect is at the middle and the lower third of the pile length, respectively. The decrease in the bearing capacity for floating pile is found to be (31%) and (21%) for void and neck defect, respectively, while the decrease in the bearing capacity for end bearing pile is found to be (43%) and (52%) for void and neck defect, respectively.

Investigation the effect of the aqueous extract of Chara vulgaris (L.) on visceral leishmaniasis
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a parasitic disease that affects public health. It is described by weight reduction, irregular fever bouts, anemia, and amplification of the spleen and liver.

Materials and Methods:

Three concentrations (15.6, 31.2, and 62.5 μg/mL) were used to find the potency of an aqueous extract ofChara vulgarisalgae in the treatment of VL. A cytotoxicity assay was performed to show the cytotoxic effect of this extract on human cells. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) test was done to determine the active compounds in the ext

Pais estimator for the reliability function of the Pareto model of Type I failure
...Show More Authors

In this paper an estimator of reliability function for the pareto dist. Of the first kind has been derived and then a simulation approach by Monte-Calro method was made to compare the Bayers estimator of reliability function and the maximum likelihood estimator for this function. It has been found that the Bayes. estimator was better than maximum likelihood estimator for all sample sizes using Integral mean square error(IMSE).

Investigation of the nuclear structure of 84-108Mo isotopes using Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method
...Show More Authors

Over the last few decades the mean field approach using selfconsistent
Haretree-Fock (HF) calculations with Skyrme effective
interactions have been found very satisfactory in reproducing
nuclear properties for both stable and unstable nuclei. They are
based on effective energy-density functional, often formulated in
terms of effective density-dependent nucleon–nucleon interactions.
In the present research, the SkM, SkM*, SI, SIII, SIV, T3, SLy4,
Skxs15, Skxs20 and Skxs25 Skyrme parameterizations have been
used within HF method to investigate some static and dynamic
nuclear ground state proprieties of 84-108Mo isotopes. In particular,
the binding energy, proton, neutron, mass and charge densities

Assessment of the Performance of Stone Columns through the Seismic Wave Test: A Review
...Show More Authors

The geophysical testing is increasingly being employed in many geotechnical applications. It is preferred in monitoring the mechanical characteristics of the ground because of its economy, not time consuming and non-destructive nature. Seismic wave test is one of the geophysical methods which showed a potential in observing the general behaviour of the reinforced soil with stone columns. Findings in most cases showed that the seismic wave measurements was integrated with or compared to the conventional tests such as standard penetration test or cone penetration test. There was a noticeable success in identifying the enhancement achieved to the ground upon the strengthening with the column, specifically when the associated surveys can produc

Development and Characterization of Controlled Release Tablets of Candesartan Cilexetil/ β‑Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex
...Show More Authors

Objective: Matrix tablet approach is one of the delivery systems intended for poorly water-soluble drugs, like candesartan cilexetil (CC). CC is a class II drug used for the treatment of hypertension. Methods: Matrix tablets from (F1x to F18z) were prepared in the presence of β‑cyclodextrin. Matrix tablet formulation ensures control release of the drug and higher dissolution by β‑cyclodextrin. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to study compatibility. Results: The angle of repose determination showed good flow for most of the formulas, besides having good compressibility. Weight variation test for all formulas showed accepted value. Drug content measurement sho

Evaluation of the Accuracy of Digital Elevation Model Produced from Different Open Source Data
...Show More Authors

This study aims to estimate the accuracy of digital elevation models (DEM) which are created with exploitation of open source Google Earth data and comparing with the widely available DEM datasets, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), version 3, and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer Global Digital Elevation Model (ASTER GDEM), version 2. The GPS technique is used in this study to produce digital elevation raster with a high level of accuracy, as reference raster, compared to the DEM datasets. Baghdad University, Al Jadriya campus, is selected as a study area. Besides, 151 reference points were created within the study area to evaluate the results based on the values of RMS.Furthermore, th

A Study of Parameters Affecting the Solvent Extraction-Flocculation Process of Used Lubricating Oil
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of operating variables on, the percentage of removed sludge (PSR) obtained during re-refining of 15W-40 Al-Durra spent lubricant by solvent extraction-flocculation treatment method. Binary solvents were used such as, Heavy Naphtha (H.N.): MEK (N:MEK), H.N. : n-Butanol (N:n-But), and H.N. : Iso-Butanol (N:Iso:But). The studied variables were mixing speed (300-900, rpm), mixing time (15-60, min), and operating  temperature (2540, oC). This study showed that the studied operating variables have effects where, increasing the mixing time up to 45 min for H.N.: MEK, H.N.: n-Butanol  and 30 min for H.N.: Iso-Butanol increased the PSR, after that percentage was decreased; increasing t

Enhancement of Biogas production and organic reduction of sludge by different pre-treatment processes
...Show More Authors

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the most common process for dealing with primary and secondary wastewater sludge. In the present work, four pre-treatment methods (ultrasonic, chemical, thermal, and thermo-chemical) are investigated in Al-Rustumya Wastewater Treatment plant in order to find their effect on biogas production and volatile solid removal efficiency during anaerobic digestion.
Two frequencies of ultrasonic wave were used 30 KHz and 50 KHz during the pre-treatment. Sodium hydroxide was added in different amounts to give three pH values of 9, 10 and 11 in chemical pre-treating processes. The sludge was heated at 60oC and 80oC through thermal pre-treatment experiment. Also, the sludge was treated thermo-chemically at 80 oC and pH

Removal of Dyes from Wastewater of Textile Industries Using Activated Carbon and Activated Alumina
...Show More Authors

This work was carried to study the capability of activated alumina from bauxite compared with activated carbon adsorption capability to reduce the color content from Al-Hilla Textile Company wastewater. Six dyes were studied from two types(reactive and dispersed) namely (blue, red, yellow) from wastewater and aqueous solutions.
Forty eight experiments were carried out to study the effect of various initial conditions (bed height, flow rate, initial concentration, pH value, temperature, and competitive adsorption) on adsorption process.
The results showed that the adsorption process using activated carbon insured a good degree of color reduction reaching (99.7%) and was better than activated bauxite which reached (95%).
