The current study aimed to determine the morphometric and meristic characteristics of the North African catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822). Six specimens of C. gariepinus were collected from the Tigris River, in central Iraq. This study is considered the confirmation first record of this species in Iraq, and the second documentation of this exotic fish. The present species is characterized by a very long dorsal fin, a rounded caudal fin and four pairs of barbels.

   The Ciliophoran Trichodina magna Van As and Basson, 1989 is recorded for the first time in in Iraq from gills of the blue tilapia Oreochromis aureus (Steindachner, 1864) Iraq from Al-Graiat location on the Tigris River at Baghdad city. The description and measurements of this external parasite as well as its illustrations are given.

A total of 109 fish specimens belonging to six species (Barbus grypus, B. luteus, B. xanthopterus, Cyprinion macrostomum, Cyprinus carpio and Liza abu) were collected from Tigris river passing through Salah Al-Deen province during the period from September 2008 till January 2009. The monogenean Gyrodactylus lavareti Malmberg, 1957 is recorded here in the present study for the first time in Iraq from gills of the common carp Cyprinus carpio. This is the twentieth gyrodactylid species to be recorded from fishes of Iraq. The description and measurements of this parasite as well as its illustration were given.

This study presented the first recorded of the banded garden spider Argiope trifasciata and    described for the first time in Baghdad city, Iraq.  The present study aimed to estimate percentage of red and white muscles fibers in two species of bony fishes belong to two different families which represented by Tenualosa ilisha (Hamilton , 1822) that belongs to the family Clupeidae and Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus , 1758) that belongs to the family Cyprinidae .     A survey of fish species in the Iraqi marine waters was carried out for the period from November 2014 to March 2018. The list included 214 species representing 75 families.

     The family Carangidae dominated the marine fishes in Iraq, which was represented by 24 species, followed by Haemulidae with 11 species, and then Serranidae and Sparidae with nine species for each, while 34 families contained a single species only.
