Pancreatic Stone Protein/ regenerating Protein (PSP/reg) as a Biochemical Marker for prediction of Microvascular Complications of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
...Show More Authors

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) characterized by insulin resistance (IR) and progressive decline in functional beta (β) cell mass partially due to increased β cell apoptosis rate. Pancreatic stone protein /regenerating protein (PSP/reg) is produced mainly by the pancreas and elevated drastically during pancreatic disorder. Beta cells are experiencing apoptosis that stimulate the expression of PSP/reg gene in surviving neighboring cells, and that PSP/reg protein is subsequently secreted from these cells which could play a role in their regeneration.

Objectives: To analyze serum levels of PSP/reg protein in T2DM patients and evaluate its correlation with the microvascular complications of the disease.

Subjects and Methods: One hundred fifty participants (64 males, 86 females; aged 40–70 years) include T2DM patients with and without microvascular complications as well as healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Biochemical parameters like random blood glucose (RBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profile, urea and creatinine (Cr) were measured. Serum values of PSP/reg protein were measured by enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Results: Serum levels of PSP/reg protein were found significantly elevated in T2DM patients with microvascular complications compared with those of controls (p<0.001) and T2DM patients without microvascular complications (p< 0.001).PSP/reg protein is correlated with type 2 DM duration (p<0.001), RBG (p<0.001), and HbA1c (p<0.001). The area under the curve (AUC) for the presence of microvascular complications was 0.973.

Conclusion: PSP/reg protein may be used as biochemical marker to predict microvascular complications of T2DM.

Adsorptive Performance of High Surface Area Date Palm Bunch Activated Carbon Towards Methyl Violet and Fuchsin Basic Dyes Removal: Thermochemical Activation And Statistical Optimization
...Show More Authors

Herein, date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) bunch (DPB) waste was transformed into activated carbon (DPAC) adsorbent by using microwaveinduced ZnCl2 activation for 15 min at a power of 600 W. Several analytical methods were used to explain the physicochemical parameters of DPBAC including XRD, pHpzc, BET, SEM–EDX, and FTIR. Afterwards, the adsorptive performance of DPBAC was thoroughly investigated for the removal of two structurally different organic dyes namely methyl violet (MV) and fuchsin basic (FB). The key adsorption parameters, including the dose of DPBAC (A: 0.02–0.06 g), the solution pH (B: 4–10), and the contact time (C: 2–20 min) were statistically optimized using the Box-Behnken design with response surface methodology (RSM

Comparison of Serum Vitamins C, D, and E in Iraqi Colorectal Cancer Patients with and without Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease to Healthy Individuals
...Show More Authors

Abstract Depending on their protective properties against different cases of Colorectal Cancer (CRC), vitamins C, D, and E are the main focus of this research. CRC is one of the global public health concerns. 30 healthy individuals provided serum samples, whereas the group of CRC patients was divided into three, totaling 90 individuals. Group I consisted of 30 newly diagnosed cases of CRC. Group II 30 consisted of consisted of 30 CRC patients who were administered three cycles of chemotherapy. Group III consisted of 30 diagnosed CRC patients who also have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The concentrations and groups of vitamins C, D, and E were evaluated using ELISA. The levels of Vitamin C were significantly lower (p &l

Land use change in Baghdad City and assessment of the Jadriyah and Umm Al- Khanazeer Island Important Bird Area (IBA) from 1984 to 2020
...Show More Authors

Land use change, particularly the expansion of urban areas and associated human activities at the expense of natural and semi-natural areas, is a major ecological issue in urban areas around the world. Climate change being a very strong additional driver for changing the temperature and habitat in the cities. This also applies to Baghdad, Iraq, where urbanisation and climate change exerts a major pressure on the natural habitats of the city, and thus may affect the ability of city planners to adapt to future climate change scenarios. Here we present evidence of substantial growth in urban areas, increases in temperature, and degradation of natural vegetation within Baghdad city by using Remote Sensing techniques and an assessment for the

The Effect of Combined Exercises Using Multi-shape Training Cones on Developing Agility, Motor Speed, and Defensive Movement in Basketball Players Under 18 Years
...Show More Authors

This research overcomes traditional training methodologies, which struggle to incorporate multidirectional movement patterns representative most game-play scenarios. We used a controlled experimental design (n = 24) with subjects presented in an experimental group, which underwent a structured agility and reaction-based training program, and a control group, which continued with conventional basketball training programs. Motor response speed, defensive movement efficiency, and agility were all measured using standardized physical performance tests and compared before and after an eight-week training period. All three-performance metrics for the experimental group showed statistically significant improvement as further evidence for

PANI/MWCNT based humidity sensor
...Show More Authors

Polyaniline Multi wall Carbon nanotube (PANI/MWCNTs) nanocomposite thin films have been prepared by Plasma jet polymerization at low frequency on glass substrate with preliminary deposited aluminum electrodes to form Al/PANI-MWCNT/Al surface-type capacitive humidity sensors, the gap between the electrodes about 50 μm and the MWCNTs weight concentration varied between 0, 1, 2, 3, 4%. The diameter of the MWCNTs was in the range of 8-15 nm and the length 10-55 μm. The capacitance-humidity relationships of the sensors were investigated at humidity levels from 35 to 90% RH. The electrical properties showed that the capacity increased with increasing relative humidity, and that the sensitivity of the sensor increases with the increase of the
