In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oil Derived from Callistemon viminalis Aerial Part
...Show More Authors

Background: Essential oils extracted from plants have been widely used in antimicrobial activity, particularly the Callistemon viminalis, with a high number of essential oils extracted.

Objectives: To identify the chemical composition of essential oil derived from Callistemon viminalis and evaluates its antimicrobial activity against selected bacterial and fungal strains.

Subjects and methods: During the study, the antimicrobial activity of different selected essential oils on some bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enteritidis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumonia) and fungus (Candida albicans) was evaluated. The MicroScan WalkAway automated device was used to confirm the identification of the bacteria microorganisms and the germ tube and microscopy detection confirmed the fungus identity of specific morphological features after growth on corn meal agar, used in this study.

Results: the GC-MS analysis reveal that the chemical composition of the essential oil was contained Eucalyptol (41.17%) area, Viridiflorol (8.43%) area, Alpha-Pinene (4.53%) area, Alpha-Terpineol (4.53%) area and others. The essential oil shows activity against Staphylococcus aureus with inhibition zone diameter of 10 mm, and for Streptococcus pneumoniae, with ihibition zone of 22 mm.

Conclusion: The highest antimicrobial activity was against S. aureus and S. pneumonia of Gram-positive bacteria. The study result show that resistance from Gram-negative bacteria and resistance from fungus C. albicans to the oil. These varying results of bacterial suseptabilty may be based on the construction of the bacterial cell wall between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The essential oil components detected with higher percent area in GC-MS from C. viminalis are Eucalyptol, alpha-Pinene, Viridiflorol, beta-Eudesmol, and alpha-Tocopherol.

Developing multiplex PCR for the rapid and simultaneous detection of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae associated with sheep respiratory tract infections
...Show More Authors

Respiratory tract infections in sheep are among the important health problems that affect all sheep ages around the world. Nine bacterial isolates obtained from sheep with respiratory tract infections were selected to be used in the current study. The isolates included 3 Staphylococcus aureus, 4 Klebsiella pneumoniae, and 2 Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Following the primers design by the Primer3Plus software tool and optimization of the conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the primers were validated for their use in the multiplex PCR experiments. The MFEprimer program was used to check the suitability of the primer set combinations for multiplex PCR. The MFEprimer software was successful in designing the multiplex-PCR experiments and de

Preparation, Spectroscopic Characterization and Theoretical Studies of Transition Metal Complexes with 1-[(2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylimino)methyl]naphthalene-2-ol Ligand
...Show More Authors

A new Schiff base [1-((2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylimino)methyl)naphthalene-2-ol] (HL) has been synthesized by condensing (2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde) with (2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylamine). In turn, its transition metal complexes were prepared having the general formula; [Pt(IV)Cl2(L)2], [Re(V)Cl2(L)2]Cl and [Pd(L)2], 2K[M(II)Cl2(L)2] where M(II) = Co, Ni, Cu] are reported. Ligand as well as metal complexes are characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV-visible, 13C & 1H NMR, mass, elemental analysis. The results suggested that the ligand behaves like a bidentate ligand for all the synthesized complexes. On the other hand, theoretical studies of the ligand as well its metal complexes were conducted at gas phase using Hyp

Employees Retention Strategy and its Impact on Organizational Memory: An Exploratory Research for the opinion of Faculty Members at Private Colleges on Baghdad
...Show More Authors

The research aims to determine the impact of employees’ retention strategy on organizational memory. This research is historical, descriptive, and analytical. The sample consists of 158 faculty members in five private colleges in Baghdad. The technique used to analyze the data is SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The research concludes that the employees retaining strategy plays a vital role in retaining employees and hence maintains organizational memory. The findings and recommendations of this research assure the administrations of private colleges that employees retention strategy play a vital role in retaining its employee and hence maintains organizational memory. Identify the effect of an educational design according to the repulsive (allosteric) learning model on the achievement of chemistry and lateral thinking. The sample consisted of (59) students from third-grade intermediate students. They were randomly distributed into two groups (experimental and control), and the equivalence was done in (chronological age, previous achievement in chemistry, intelligence, lateral thinking). The (30) students from experimental group were taught according to the instructional design, other 29 students from the (control) group were taught according to the usual method. Two tests done, one of them is an achievement test consisted of (30) items of the type of multiple choice, the other was a lateral think

Introduction/Aim. Seminal fluid analysis (SFA) plays a crucial role in helping infertility clinics diagnose the underlying reason of male infertility. The aim of the study was to investigate seminal fluid patterns of male partners of an infertile couple with apparently fertile female partners. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2019 and December 2022. Patients were attending consultations for delayed conception for more than 12 months with apparently fertile female partner. Results. Four hundred fifty-three patients were included in the study. The distribution of patients according to age groups showed that 277 patients were young, aged 21 - 30 years (61%). Two hundred sixty-two (58%) patien

BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS AND PREDATORY EFFICIENY OF PREDATOR Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.) COLEOPTERA :COCCINELLIDAE ON DATE PALM SCALE Parlatoria blanchardi (T.) DIASPIDIDAE: HOMOPTERA UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS.
...Show More Authors

Laboratory studies were conducted at the biological control unit, college of Agriculture, University of Baghdad to evaluate some biological aspects of the predator Chilocorus bipustulatus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), which is considered one of the most important predators on many insect pests, especially the scale insect, Parlatoria blanchardi, (Homoptera: Diaspididae) on date palms. The results showed that biological parameters of the predator were varied according to different degree of temperature. Egg incubation period was significantly different and reached to 7.5 and 5.44 day at 25 and 30°C respectively, Fertility was the same 100% at both temperature degrees. Larval growth periods were 17.41 and 16.12 day as well as the mortality du
